Please add an image of the character the actors play in the movie

The cast listing of a film displayed at IMDB shows the latest headshot of the actors in the film. But this doesn't necessarily match the actors as they looked in the film. For instance, the cast of "E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial" is today 38 years older, and their current faces don't look anything like they did in the film in 1982 (q.v., Drew Barrymore in 1982 vs. Drew Barrymore in 2020).  this will likely take a human (or several thousand) to find faces of the characters in the film and link them to the actors. but...maybe the actors themselves could contribute.

The 3 that don't belong, I'm supposing: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0083866/mediaviewer/rm251042560 https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0083866/mediaviewer/rm284596992 https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0083866/mediaviewer/rm519478016 except... these do show D.Barrymore, very likely at an event relating to the film (20th anniversary, perhaps). And when we post an image to a title, and label it with the Actor name, then it looks like it automatically goes to the corresponding character page. Well, hopefully the character page also gets image(s) from the film, not just events.

vylmen, I don't know why you're being so cryptic. Just describe the problem.   Right now I'm seeing the new media viewer, and the gallery link to see "9 more photos" goes directly to an image on that media viewer, which is known NOT to follow the photos from that sub-gallery (it follows the photos for the entire title gallery). I would expect the "9 more photos" link to display a second gallery page, as it would do in the past, I believe.

This is what the current character pages are for. When you use the "normal" (non-reference) view, you see that each character in E.T. has a link, and those pages usually include images from the film and/or from the time of the film's release.Dee Wallace...MaryHenry Thomas...ElliottPeter Coyote...KeysRobert MacNaughton...Michael (as Robert Macnaughton)Drew Barrymore...GertieFor instance, the Gertie page has 32 images.

YES!!! I'm not sure why other people aren't getting your point. The image on the cast list of that movie should show the actors AS THEIR CHARACTERS using stills from that movie! I shouldn't have to click on 'Gertie' and scroll through 32 images to confirm that, yes, the actress pictured in her 40s is indeed the same one who was 8 years old at the time. I've attached a mockup of the difference this would make (forive my 3 second photoshop attempt). The original ET example on the left and a proper one on the right, showing the actors AS THEIR CHARACTERS. In my view it would be SOOO much easier to identify them from their character.

When you click on the CAST for a movie or show, it should show the photo of what they looked like at the time they were IN that movie.  When you go to the cast's personal page, THEN show their current photo.  Note: This comment was created from a merged conversation originally titled Cast photos

when posting the information about these movies, could it be possible to post the characters cartoon/cgi image along with the actors picture so you can see who is playing who without clicking back and forth to match character with the voice actor Note: This comment was created from a merged conversation originally titled animated/cgi movies

@Nomad308  To see cast members in character, please click the character names on the cast list.  For example on https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0102926/ clicking Clarice Starling under Jodie Foster's name will take you to https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0102926/characters/nm0000149 with character photos and quotes.   Hope this helps.

@Col_Needham doesn't help when you don't know the characters name when you are looking up someone you saw in a clip of a movie. I'd have to click on every female character in some instances before I found who I was looking for.  For example: The Fury, with Kurt Douglas.  Saw a short clip and didn't now the characters name (several school girls eating in cafeteria) went to IMDb page for the movie and I still can't identify several of them because none of the pictures look like they did then.

@Nomad308 This is a good use case, thanks.  We have moved this back to an Idea post.

@Col_Needham At least consider adding a button that lets people toggle between the cast as they looked in the movie, and how they look now (or most current headshot).

For example here is a picture of Melody Thomas Scott that could display in the cast list on The Fury.  I didn't see that in her listing.

I don't know. I do remember thinking (possibly remarking) that there an extra column (on the last generation layout) ought to be implemented on cast listings, such that a screenshot of the face of one of the characters portrayed by an actor could be placed to the right of the role field. Let us bear in mind that this wouldn't necessarily be easy to implement, since it would be like creating a whole extra data field within the filmography item type, in addition to the character name/description, attribute and crediting order within the same item type, which might require a fundamental change to the way the data is organized in the database. I've actually gone so far as to propose that a data field within the filmography item type just for short descriptions of characters, separate from what ordinarily stores the character name/description, be created. Given the way that the current character pages work (by displaying screenshots and quotes), I suppose maybe new data fields within the filmography item type may not be necessary, but the cool thing about them is that they are mutually connected to a specific pairing of title page and name page, so as to appear when accessing either one.

@jeorj_euler 😀 ? ? ajbath Saturday, January 30th, 2016 Character / Actor photos Would it be possible to include character photos along with the actor photos  when displaying the cast?  Sometimes it is easier to recognise the character by sight rather than name. https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/data-issues-policy-discussions/character-actor-photos/5f4a79868815453dba8049d5 torchwood_pride Saturday, August 10th, 2013 Actor Photos in Character https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/data-issues-policy-discussions/actor-photos-in-character/5f4a792d8815453dba74a3e8 .

It has always astounded me that this has never been implemented to date. What if I have not yet established that the Lion in Madagascar is called "Alex"? If I want to find out which Actor does the voice-over for this Character, must I REALLY watch the movie till somebody addresses him just to find out the Character Name so I can cross-reference this against the Cast List on IMDB? @FanaticJason Yes, this feature exists.  In your example, click “Alex” in the cast list on https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0351283/ to reach https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0351283/characters/nm0001774 Hope this helps.

@Col_Needham Thanks for the quick response Col, and that's great - thanks for introducing me to this. But (IMHO) this does not address the issue I am REALLY getting at:  - *YOU* are suggesting a mechanism for me to pick out an ACTOR visually from the Cast List and find out which CHARACTER he does the voice-over FOR  - *I* am suggesting a mechanism for me to pick out a CHARACTER visually from the Cast List and find out which ACTOR does the voice-over for HIM/HER/IT With all due respect, seeing a series of Hollywood faces when I am looking for an animated character from the movie ITSELF means nothing to me! :-) It is not until I hear somebody ADDRESS the lion during the movie that I will even REALISE the name I should be looking for (in the case OF the lion) is Alex.

If more than one character is portrayed by a given performer, then ought/would an image be displayed for each of those characters or just one of them? What happens if the quantity of them portrayed by the same performer exceeds, say, five? Would the remaining be hidden? Would the row have some kind of scrolling functionality? Or should there altogether be a separate section devoted to characters and who portrayed them?

IMDB is great to see who voiced cartoon characters, but right now we only see the character name they voiced.  Main characters are easy, but many are not.  I'd like to see the actor photo list include a photo of the cartoon voiced in addition to the cartoon name.  When cartoon movies have alot of character names it's hard to piece together using just the cartoon characters first name. This feature/idea could be applied to all movies.  Include a photo of the actor in the movie (in costume, makeup, etc) next to the actor's current photo and characters name. Note: This comment was created from a merged conversation originally titled For cartoon movies, show images of cartoon characters next to each respective actor's photo
