Info to Poll Makers
Hi,
Here is some helpful info to anyone who makes poll suggestions.
The polls were redesigned in June 2025, and the modernized polls came with a lot of changes. Please take the time to read this information.
- Long intro texts are cut off. You might want to consider a shorter intro or putting the question above the rest of the text to avoid having to click "Read More" to see it.
Example: https://www.imdb.com/poll/SL9NHReJRWg/
- Pressing the Enter key automatically saves the edits. To get to the next line, press Shift + Enter.
- The word wrap issue now appears to be solved, so adding a blank line between different rows of text in list descriptions is no longer necessary. This means that the text in your list descriptions will look exactly the same in the poll.
Example:
List: https://www.imdb.com/list/ls562533295/
Poll: https://www.imdb.com/poll/mHI_cCI3qs8/
- The word wrap issue is solved for text in the descriptions, but in the introduction, different rows of text will wrap if they are not separated by a blank line. Example:
List: https://www.imdb.com/list/ls592154886/
Poll: https://www.imdb.com/poll/gtPz0o4TT_A/
Notice how the link is placed directly under the question in the list, but appears to the right of the question in the poll.
This is how it looks with a blank line inbetween:
List: https://www.imdb.com/list/ls4172815359/
Poll: https://www.imdb.com/poll/kFvvayXHgdizVfVo7u2Dwg/
- Bullet points ( • ) and dashed points ( - ) are now OK to use in list descriptions.
Example: https://www.imdb.com/poll/SalAAUmDWWyvpmIkOEl1Tw/
- Color is no longer available in polls, so no need to use color tags in your list. [blue]blue text[/blue]
- However, bolded and italic text can still be used: bold italics
- Please do not use spoiler tags in the options, as it will be impossible to see the hidden text before voting.
spoiler alert
Example: https://www.imdb.com/poll/bkd02et1xOc/
- Links in poll options are not clickable until you view the poll results
- When making an image list, it's always good to add captions (titles, character names etc.). Otherwise, if an image disappears from the poll, it's hard for the poll taker to know what the option was. Example: https://m.imdb.com/poll/sYdNWZZlG0w/
- External links to other sites in the poll text are not allowed anymore. If there is an external link in a list you haven't edited in a long time, the link will stay as long as you don't edit the list text.
- When mentioning a movie, TV show or person in the list intro, it's good to add a link to the IMDb page:
Examples:
[link=nm0000949] (name link for Cate Blanchett)
[link=tt1475582] (title link for the TV series Sherlock)
[link=tt0068646] (title link for the movie The Godfather)
- Once your list has become a poll, DO NOT delete the list. If you delete the list, you can never make any updates to your poll.
Reminder: Re-pushing a poll
A live poll can be updated (re-pushed) to add one or more options to the poll (max 35).
Always add the new option at the end of the list, and do not change the order of the choices in the list.
It is recommended to include a note with the day's date, so voters can see that the option was added after the poll was published.
Request the re-push in this thread: https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/imdb-poll/faq-poll-authors-repush-requests/5f4a7ad08815453dbabc3d05?page=172
