Introducing the new Edit page for IMDb Title Credits

Introducing the new Edit page for IMDb Title Credits

We're excited to announce a brand-new way to contribute credit changes to IMDb Title pages. This redesigned editing experience makes it easier than ever to review, update, and submit changes to credits, all from a single, unified view.

What's new?

Until now, editing a title on IMDb, while simultaneously referencing existing data on the page, required moving between browser tabs/windows to see both the contribution form and the live Title page. The new Title Edit page brings everything together into one place. When you visit the new Title Edit page, you'll see a complete reference view of the exiting title data: cast, crew, story details, production info, etc.

How to access the page

The page is currently accessible via the Edit link next to Top Cast on the Title page, or via any inline Edit link on the Full cast & crew subpage, e.g.  Digger (2026) . Edit page buttons on both pages still take you to the Classic Editor.

On IMDbPro the page is accessible via the Edit link next to Top Cast on Title Overview, or via any inline Edit link on the Cast or Crew tabs.

How it works

Adding credits: At the top of each credit category section (e.g. Cast, Director, Producers), click the + Add button to add a new credit.

Editing or removing credits: Click the pencil icon beside any existing credit to make changes or remove it. You can discard any pending change by clicking Discard next to the credit. This returns the credit to its current live state.

Tracking your changes: As you make edits, a floating header at the top of the page keeps a running summary of all the changes in your basket, so you always have a clear picture of what you've done. A "More" menu (three vertical dots) in the header lets you discard all your changes and start again.

Submitting: When you're happy with your changes, click the Submit changes to IMDb button in the header to send everything in one go.

Pick up where you left off: If you navigate away from the page before submitting, don't worry. Your in-progress changes are saved automatically. When you come back, everything will be right where you left it.

Easy navigation

A navigation panel on the left-hand side of the page includes:

  • Search: A data type and credit category search field to quickly jump to the section you need.
  • Change summary: A live overview of the edits you've made so far.
  • Filters: Options to hide empty sections of the title data, or filter the display to show only your changes.
  • Live vs. marked-up view: A toggle that lets you switch between the current live data on IMDb and a marked-up version highlighting your proposed changes.

On mobile devices, the navigation panel becomes a slide-out drawer that you can expand or collapse as needed, keeping the editing experience simple and focused for any screen size.

After you submit

Once you've submitted your changes, the header updates to show the status of your edits (how many are being processed, how many have been approved, and how many have been declined) so you can stay informed without leaving the page.

What about other data types?

This is just the beginning. For data types beyond credits, you'll find a convenient Edit link that takes you directly to the Classic Editor. Over time, we'll be bringing all data types into this new experience so that everything is editable from a single page.

Can I opt in/out?

Yes. If you'd prefer to continue using the old experience, click the Speech icon in the lower right corner of the screen, and choose Opt-out.

Can I view the classic edit page without opting out?

Yes. The Edit page button on Title pages and the Full cast & crew subpage still takes you to the Classic Editor, so it remains available any time you need it.

How do I give feedback?

Click the Speech icon in the bottom right of the page, and select Provide feedback. You can indicate your opinion of the experience with the smiley icons and then choose to complete an optional survey.

Thank you for continuing to make IMDb the world's most trusted source for entertainment data. We hope this update improves your contribution workflow, and we welcome your feedback.

Thank you very much, Ozzy.

This is a very interesting step forward because it seems that the form is able to handle long lists of names without crashing (finally! 🥹). After trying it out for a few minutes, I've already left some brief feedback with a couple of suggestions that immediately stand out. It doesn't yet make it suitable for comprehensive title audits (it still lacks a filtering system to mark the items that have already been validated or verified), so for now, I'll keep using the old form, but it's on the right track.

Hi @ljdoncel,

Thank you for your comment, and for providing feedback.

Please could you elaborate on what you mean by:

(it still lacks a filtering system to mark the items that have already been validated or verified)

We'd like to understand what we can do for you in regards to this need, and what we can work on to support that.

Thanks!

Hi, @Ozzy:

could you elaborate on what you mean by: "it still lacks a filtering system to mark the items that have already been validated or verified"

Of course. I'll explain it using an example I just submitted a moment ago: the complete audit of Predestination (2014/I) (#261015-151648-650000).

When I undertake a comprehensive audit of the on-screen credits of a title, I don't know how other fellow contributors approach this, but I follow these steps:

  1. I take screenshots of the title and upload them to an Imgur link. In particular, I always try to submit the complete cast list (with the corresponding order numbers, which I add using Photoshop) and a time-lapse video of all eligible credits (Imgur only allows clips for free up to 60 seconds long) (https://imgur.com/a/6HocC1f). Additionally, I always try to include specific screenshots of names that are incorrectly marked as (uncredited), to make it easier to verify that this label needs to be removed (e.g. Raoul Teague was wrongly listed as uncredited when in fact his name is clearly there). And sometimes, I also upload other focused screenshots, such as the soundtrack, a company's crew, or a specific location unit... Then I'll include that Imgur link in the explanation box for every edit I make.

  2. The length of the credits for a 1970s drama isn't the same as that for a Marvel blockbuster with extensive visual effects so, depending on the number of items in a movie that I expect to check (and considering the huge limitations of the current form -which I've already complained about countless times-), I choose one of the following preset URLs:

For this movie, I correctly figured I could do everything in a single tab without it crashing, so I chose the following URL (full audit), where I replaced tt0000000 with the film's tconst (tt2397535):

    http://www.imdb.com/updates?update=tt0000000:cast.correct.all/self.correct.all/crew.correct.all/production_companies.correct.all/miscellaneous_companies.correct.all/distributors.correct.all/special_effects_companies.correct.all/crazy_credits.correct.all/trivia.correct.all/goofs.correct.all/soundtracks.correct.all/certificates.correct.all/business_cp.correct.all/business_ad.correct.all/business_gr.correct.all/technical_met.correct.all/taglines.correct.all/

The link opens/displays all entries in Correct mode. After first supplying specific data on my country (Spain) obtained directly from the ICAA (certificates, gross, admissions)...

  3. ...I can now focus specifically on auditing the on-screen credits. To do this, I play the film and check each name that appears on screen (people and companies) one by one against the existing entries in the form.
    • If the name exists and is listed correctly, I change the entry from Correct to Keep.
⚠️This cannot be done on the new Edit page⚠️
    • If the name exists but is listed incorrectly, I amend it to match the on-screen caption.
    • If the name doesn't exist, I add it to the form.

  4. And I keep re-checking and saving every so often, because any experienced contributor knows that the form can only be recovered from a saved version (if the tab is closed for any reason, the information entered is completely lost). Once I've finally gone through all the names in the credits (which can take hours or days), acknowledging/addressing all the yellow warnings, I re-check the form again, and then comes the final, crucial phase of cleanup.
    • Names that are "Keep" or "Correct with green background" are credited people/companies that reflect what the credits say.
    • Names that are "Correct with white background" are uncredited people/companies or duplicates.
⚠️This cannot be done on the new Edit page because these credits are indistinguishable from the “Keep” ("already validated") entries⚠️
      • I add the attribute (uncredited) to most of these entries.
      • I delete duplicate or similar entries ("superseding rule").
      • I delete ineligible entries (trailers, localized versions, uncredited voice, etc...)
      • I delete suspicious/unsubstantiated entries.

  5. Finally, I add the voice actors for Spanish and German dubbings, and go through all the trivia and goof items to add links and timestamps.

  6. And submit! As you can see, during a rigorous audit, it's crucial to have a system in place where all credits that are verified are tracked—not just the ones that are corrected, but also the ones that are already correct—because that's essential for assigning attributes such as (uncredited) or filtering out entries that should be deleted. When there are only a few entries, it's not much of a problem, but in departments with hundreds of names, it's impossible to use the new interface without having an external list to refer to

Thank you very much for reading this feedback. If you have any other questions, I'm here to help.

The 'tips' feature and many of the guideline links featured in the classic editor and even in the existing inline edit feature seem to be absent from this version.

When adding a new cast credit and selecting an existing actress, the existing edit features are able to automatically select Actress rather than Actor. This version currently requires me to select it myself.

When adding a credit and entering a name, the search results should preferably be clickable, at least after selecting a name, so that we can check the name page to make sure it's the right person.

In the existing edit features the name is clickable after it is selected, and if you don't select a name and click 'Check these updates' you get another list of clickable names, which doesn't seem to be an option in this new version.

  1. There is no option to "Click here to copy existing credits from the series or other episodes. "  and Yes the option is there on the "edit page" button at the bottom, but there is no logic for unexperienced users that the "edit page" button works differently than a "edit" button.
  2. If I enter the name, the system finds her, I still get a line saying: "Add xxx as a new name", that is not the most logical sentence, "Add xxx as new person" or "Not the correct xxxx, add a new person"  or similar would be better.
  3. Also the form/screen hides the existing listed "self" credits, I'm using Firefox on windows PC, the form automatically "rolls" the existing self credits out of the picture, so I can't see who is already added and not. When the side bar is there, I have no way of getting them to show since the rest of the picture is "frozen", was that not the whole point? That I sould be able to see existing data at the same time as adding new?

4. The name field does not "serach for name similarities"/"find the name" before you have managed to write the EXACT FULL NAME, se video:

Firefox, windows, tested on

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt49275861/

The old however searches for every letter, see picture:

5.

It looks verry unnatural that the self I am adding sits in a self Category, but the other Self's are listed under "Cast", and after submitting it moves from Self to Cast, but on the personal page it is listed under self.

How is an un-experienced contributor to understand that this is correct?
See picture.

4.1 Turns out this new form DOES NOT SEARCH FOR NAME SIMILARITIES AT ALL,

this is critical and will lead to a lot of duplicate names in the database.

It's easy to miss wheter oscar is written with a k or a c, see 2 pictures, old version finds the name, new does not, and suggests to make a new entery.
