Fix the Lists

All lists should automatically be Private and there should be a vetting process for lists to be made Public. The lists feature is completely useless currently since there are thousands of lists that people have made because they either don't understand that they could use the Advanced Search to create that exact list for themselves at anytime, or because they think anyone else on this green planet would care about which tv series they specifically watched in 2017.

The value that the lists feature could offer is completely negated by the immense amount of work it takes to find anything even half useful. I say kill it until they care enough to do it properly.

Have you visited
https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/topics/imdb-poll/5f4951c662e5fc53cfeb955a

The IMDb Poll is an ongoing set of polls about movies and television.

Many users have many Llists and then they make many Polls for others to vote on.

Fun time for all

I watched an interesting movie the other day and wanted to know if there were more movies like that one in particular.

I would NEVER go to IMDB lists to help with this because I would have to sort through hundreds of lists of people who watched it and added it to a list that they think other people would like to see of the thousands of movies that they have seen. You have to click on the list to actually see who they are to begin with, but there's still thousands of lists like this.

Please tell me what benefit that serves you. How often do you just peruse lists like, "Every Movie I've Ever Watched" or "All the Movies I've Seen" or "Every Horror Movie?"

You found a neat link for polls. If that's all you ever want from the list feature, great! You've got it. No one needs what they're offering from the main site. I'd love to see it improved. I don't know why you wouldn't.

Everyone could still have their list of what they watched or what they think is the definitive list of Dramas. They'd just be private. That would cutback the vast majority of current lists and there might actually be interesting information that was worth looking at amongst the Public lists. Everyone still able to do what they're doing, but a useful assortment for users being listed publicly. No one gets hurt, everyone benefits.

That is a valid point and something that I'll happily utilize.

Here's a list:

https://www.imdb.com/list/ls009177533/?ref_=rltls_55

It's "Movies I want to Remember" by user fede309.

Is there a benefit that I'm not seeing to this list being Public? That same user has a list titled "My Top 100 in no order." I don't have a problem with that list being Public. If I like their taste and see that I have good connection with that list, it could benefit me to see what else they liked, creating a useful recommendation.

But a list over 1,000 films long that they want to remember for reasons unspecified? You can't possibly cull a recommendation from that, can you?

I've been on this site for 20 years with my actual profile. I created this to comment because there used to be value in the Lists that I utilized.

I appreciate the Keyword suggestion and that would work for what I had referenced but one of the only social aspects of this site is what I've been able to gather from lists and polls, and I think it's missing value deeply.

Seems an easy enough fix to just have some oversight into what goes Public and what stays private.

Maybe you're finding value in something that I am not. If I wanted to find TV shows that had the keyword "Grief" in them, I could just use IMDB's Advanced Search. Why would I need to search that through odd-odium's Watched TV list? If I click on a single show from the 4,108 titles in that list, it will show this list on all 4,108 of them. But it's a useless list to me. I don't want to see it show up on one of them, let alone all. Now you add everyone else that made an identical list like this and it's become a chore to search through the lists on any given TV show.

Of the lists you provided, "Non-related Celebrities With Identical Birth-dates" by khaosjr is the only one I see providing true value. The topic is interesting and it provides non-opinion data.

I think that illustrates my point perfectly. You can provide data through lists that is valuable to other people. You can also do that with your personal opinion, like "Rambo Movies Ranked" or even "Movies that Scared me when I was a kid." This site was built around a Top 100 and if anyone wants to post theirs, I'm all for it.

Additional lists of what someone has seen isn't helpful to the overall user experience outside of that personal user, so keep those lists Private.
