Intro:

Ebenezer Scrooge is one of the most iconic characters in literature. In cinema and TV-movies the story gained great success from the last century until today.

Which of these adaptations of the classic Charles Dickens' story A Christmas Carol is the most heartfelt for you?

Please discuss here.

Suggestions:

All movies about Ebenezer Scrooge. Movies, not TV-shows, TV-series, documentations. Animated ok, but please no Grinch-movies, because it's centered on Ebenezer. Shorts welcome.

Please use the title "A Christmas Carol" somewhere in your question.

Alistair Sim was easily the best Scrooge, but I also really enjoyed George C. Scott.  I feel that this is his best role after Patton.

How about a nod to Charles Dickens too?

How do you like my nod in the question? I've changed it after you whished a nod. And I hope I understand the nod correct in that connection.

I consider it to be very good.

Hi, Jessica, wherever you are. For some reason, your reply (about an earlier post flagged as private) is hidden from me, yet I received a notification about it which includes some of its contents. I'm confused. The keyword expert also mentioned something about an own post being stuck flagged as private. Is Sprinklr glitching out today? What is going on?

Yes, sometimes posts are marked "Private" and we don't know why.

I tried posting a third time but it was still marked Private. However, there's chance that my posts will appear later, because it happened in another thread.

@Jessica ,

Your post included a link to the German Wikipedia page for Ebenezer Scrooge. I suspect that the Sprinklr spam filter is marking your posts with that link private and staff member have to set the posts to public.

Jessica's post which was marked private last month didn't have any external links, and I don't think mine did either.

I was suspecting that any kind of reference (with or without a hyperlink) to some websites or brands besides Amazon, IMDb, Box Office Mojo and Sprinklr triggers the automated filter, and maybe a forum administrator has to manually unflag the affected post, which make take longer than a couple of days. I had a problem with a post in which I listed off the names of several streaming services that partake in IMDb's instant watch options program.

You are missing one of the biggest  Ebenezer Scrooge movies of the year, although you may want to use spoiler brackets on it.

Will Ferrell is billed as the Ghost of Christmas Present, one of three Christmas Spirits who annually visit a person selected for redemption in Spirited (2022).
It is revealed about midway into the movie, that he is the spirit of Ebenezer Scrooge, some two hundred years after his own redemption.
I've put 'Spirited' on the list. I'm very curious about that, but still won't rent Apple TV. Maybe later it will be available on Amz. Thank you for suggesting. :)

Not that it matters here, but I'm not humored by Will Ferrell, therefore not a fan. Ryan Reynolds is alright. I don't really follow closely the contents of Apple's streaming service, so I don't often know what it has to offer. I only watched Servant and Amazing Stories, as those were the only interesting things on it at one time.

It's on the list now. I can't believe I forgot it. It's one of the best, even though I like the Muppets best. ;)

I worry that our dear Breu may be suffering from a small bit of mental exhaustion or sleep deprivation. For me, sometimes I experience information overload trying to read some of these threads, due to a mixture of many words, long hyperlinks and big pictures. Some people on here might be overextending themselves without even knowing it when they create multiple threads in the span of a hour, and then they have to deal with the flood of notifications, some important and some not. Well, you know you're in bad shape if you put the milk in the cabinet and put the cereal box in the refrigerator. By the way, has that ever happened to anybody here?

That is a distinct probability.

The IMDb Poll authors literally span the globe. It's hard to keep up a conversation when contributions occur 24/7.

Yes, I've put the milk in the cabinet and cereal box in the refrigerator on multiple occasions. I've also put my cell phone in the refrigerator and carried the milk to the charger, although I realized my mistake when I tried to charge the milk.

The Ebenezer Scrooge link goes to the German wikipedia page. The Charles Dickens link goes to A Christmas Carol.

Corrections:

Which of these adaptations

Thank you, Jessica. Corrected. I'm sorry about that, but I was posting that idea to keep it in mind and at the time I wrote the suggestion, I had a hard, tempting event at Gems of War, which is my favorite game for over a year now. Each - maybe - 2 or 3month, they do such an event and it takes a lot of concentration. And I also still want to respond to my poll ideas. That clearly went wrong this time. ;)

FYC:  A Christmas Carol (2009) is probably not the better, but it is the most voted film based on a Charles Dickens work.

A Christmas Carol (1938)

Christmas Carol: The Movie (2001)

Blackadder's Christmas Carol (1988)

A Christmas Carol (1999)

Carol for Another Christmas (1964)
