Live poll: Favorite Songs for the “Dog and Pony Review”

List page or source page: https://www.imdb.com/list/ls525800781/?ref_=m_ur

poll page: https://www.imdb.com/poll/zBbaATo91vA/

Someone got me thinking of [linkTo=tt0048280]Lady and the Tramp (1955)[/linkTo] when he mentioned “Bella Notte (This Is the Night)” on another poll which caused my mind immediately to remember the dog pound scene where the stray dogs where howling a terrible rendition of “There's No Place Like Home (Home, Sweet Home)”, just before Peg was introduced, and it was mentioned that she used to be a star of the “Dog and Pony Review”. Then she sings her song.

I thought it would be a great idea to create a fictional "Dog and Pony Review", with a list of songs that meet the following criteria:
 1) The song is from an animated film,
2) The song is sung by an animal (including fish, reptile, dinosaur, bird, or insect), and
3) The song is an original song written for the movie.

I am looking for songs such as:
- Opening numbers
- Torch songs
- Songs about family
- Love songs
- Lullabies
- Funny character songs
- Big production show breakers
- Villain songs
- Dramatic songs
- Inspirational songs

Of the songs already on this list, which is your favorite?

If you got any stray songs to name, drop them off here, so the dog catcher can round them up. Just be sure to mention the movie’s name too! (I got to be able to find them!)

This looks like this is going to go over 35 songs. It looks more and more like I will have to break it down into song categories. The only really odd thing is that I got no songs where horses are singing. This is called ”The Dog and Pony Review”. So where are the ponies?

p.s. I know that “The Land Before Time” series have a lot of songs about families, I just couldn’t decide which one.

That's the most unwieldy title and rambling suggestion text I have ever seen.

You should at the very least remove the "(The Fictional Show was Mentioned in Disney’s “Lady and the Tramp”) and "(How is that for a change of pace? The question came last)."

If not clean up the main thorny briar patch of a main text, can you at least add paragraph breaks?

I had cleaned it up a little bit more but I still got a problem sentence since it is really a very long phrase and not a proper sentence. I got to work on it. Any way, thank you. You posts always helps because I got rotten grammar.

@dgranger ,

Please consider changing you introduction and question to the following:

I was thinking about the animated film Lady and the Tramp (1955) and the song "Bella Notte (This Is the Night)". This reminded me of the scene in the dog pound where the stray dogs are barking a terrible rendition of "There's No Place Like Home (Home, Sweet Home)". Just before Peg is introduced, it is mentioned that she used to be a star of the "Dog and Pony Review". She then sings her song.

This got me thinking about what other songs could be included in a fictional "Dog and Pony Review". I would like to come up with a list of songs that meet the following criteria:

 1. The song is from an animated film.
 2. The song is sung by an animal (fish, reptile, dinosaur, bird, or insect).
 3. The song is an original song written for the movie.

I am looking for songs that fit into a variety of categories, such as:

 • Opening numbers
 • Torch songs
 • Songs about family
 • Love songs
 • Lullabies
 • Funny character songs
 • Big production show breakers
 • Villain songs
 • Dramatic songs
 • Inspirational songs

Which one on this list is your favorite?

So if you got any stray songs to name, drop them off here, so the dog catcher can round them up.

@dan_dassow I changed most of the description but I had kept the first line because that is what happened. I didn’t mentioned “Lady and the Tramp” and Bella Noche (This is the Night)”. Someone else did. My mind went to the dog pound scene because of the story of how Peg was created. That character wasn’t in the orginnal script. It was Peggy Lee who wrote all the songs for the movie and was the singing of all the female singing voices including the Siamese cats. She came up with the idea and Walt was uncertain about including it. So she wrote the song and paid for the demo herself in which she performed. The execs at Disney, including Walt’s wife, and Roy Disney so liked the slightly vampy style Peggy Lee sung it that they created the character of Peg for her. Peggy Lee was the inspiration! And as I said, Peg, Jocko, and Trusty, from “Lady and the Tramp”, and Pongo from “101 Dalmatians” have cameo shots in “Oliver and Company” in the “Why Should I Worry” song.

I'm not sure the bullet points will look very good in poll format, unless they're separated by a space. The second section could perhaps be written in a single sentence:

@Jessica and @dgranger ,

I agree. When I suggested an edit, I wanted to clarify what @dgranger wrote. I had not considered formatting if/when the poll goes live.

Changes done but I still find it clunky because it talks about creating the list then goes to ask the question and then goes right back to talk about setting up the list.

Creating a fictional "Dog and Pony Review" with a list of songs that meet your criteria is a fun idea. Here's a list of songs that fit the bill:

Opening Numbers:

 1. "Circle of Life" from The Lion King (1994)
 2. "When You Wish Upon a Star" from Pinocchio (1940)
 3. "I Just Can't Wait to Be King" from The Lion King (1994)

Torch Songs: 4. "Part of Your World" from The Little Mermaid (1989)

 1. "Reflection" from Mulan (1998)

Songs About Family: 6. "You'll Be in My Heart" from Tarzan (1999)

 1. "The Bare Necessities" from The Jungle Book (1967)

Love Songs: 8. "A Whole New World" from Aladdin (1992)

 1. "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" from The Lion King (1994)

Lullabies: 10. "Baby Mine" from Dumbo (1941)

 1. "The Second Star to the Right" from Peter Pan (1953)

Funny Character Songs: 12. "Under the Sea" from The Little Mermaid (1989)

 1. "Hakuna Matata" from The Lion King (1994)

Big Production Show Breakers: 14. "Be Our Guest" from Beauty and the Beast (1991)

 1. "Friend Like Me" from Aladdin (1992)

Villain Songs: 16. "Poor Unfortunate Souls" from The Little Mermaid (1989)

 1. "Be Prepared" from The Lion King (1994)

Dramatic Songs: 18. "Into the Unknown" from Frozen II (2019)

 1. "Let It Go" from Frozen (2013)

Inspirational Songs: 20. "Go the Distance" from Hercules (1997)

 1. "I See the Light" from Tangled (2010)

Of these songs, my favorite would have to be "Circle of Life" from The Lion King. It's a powerful and iconic opening number that sets the tone for the film. The combination of music and visuals in that scene is truly breathtaking.

If you have any more "stray" songs to add to the list, be sure to drop them off in the provided link along with the movie's name so that they can be rounded up for the "Dog and Pony Review."

@maridina great list but unfortunately half cannot go on because of the 2nd rule it had to be sung by an animal and etc.it meant no humans. In fact I had trouble justifying one of my selections because the character don’t sing it on screen but the singing voices of the characters sing it off screen. The little mermaid ones, I’ll consider. I think I had already got the Lion King ones.
and if you think I’m kidding around about the animals have to sing the songs, I have a killer torch song I can’t use because of my own rules. A song that I think, if Brother Bear 2 was released in theaters instead of going direct to video, I am convinced without a doubt that “It Will Be Me” by Melissa Etheridge would have taken the song of the year Oscar. It is that moving and powerful. But I can’t use it because no character sings it on screen, and Melissa Etheridge sings it offscreen and she is not the singing voice of any of the characters. You want to see what I mean? Here is the shorten version that appears in the story, “It Will Be Me” The version that appears in the story

The full version that plays over the credits - “It Will Be Me” by Melissa Etheridge (full version)

@maridina four of the songs made it on. “The Bare Necessities” would have made it on too if mowgli hadn’t joined in at the end.

Thanks, and believe or not, just before I had read this post, I just added “the adventures of Ichbod and mr. Toad” to the dark Disney poll and going to ask for a repush. I was thinking about classic horror stories all day scone I pulled out my book “The Strange Case of Dr. Jeckyl and Mr. Hyde and other stories” and discovered that Adventures romance Novelist Robert Louis Stevenson wrote a few horror stories other than his adventure stories. Along with “Dr. Jeckyl and Mr.Hyde”, he wrote the horror suspense stories “The Body Snatcher” and “The Suicide club”

which have been turned into movies. And few more other than “Treasure Island” and “Kidnapped”.

but we’re you sending me vibes? We both thought of the same film on the same day?
