Poll Suggestion: World Tourism Day (27 September)

🏝️🌞

The United Nations proclaimed 27 September as World Tourism Day. Tourism is one of the world’s most important economic sectors. It employs one in every 10 people on Earth and provides livelihoods to hundreds of millions more.

There has been a great deal of movies which have been released along the themes of travel and tourism, which one is your favorite?

Personally, I think more than a few of these cited movies fall outside the scope of tourism. Travel and Tourism are not synonymous, generally only travel for pleasure is considered tourism. The UN Tourism definition is posted below. I think there a lots of high-profile movies that are better fits for the poll's theme and the UN tourism definition that are unlisted.

Also, quite a few movies focus on travel during life-changing quests and fall under the other purpose category in the UN definition, rather than travel for pleasure in the strictest sense, IMHO. Also, I think some movies fall outside the more than a day, but less than year time scope to qualify as tourism under the UN definition.

If you are going to make a poll about traveling, I think most of your choices are fine. But, I think if you are going to focus on "tourism" and the UN day specifically, the movies' theme should meet their definition of tourism.

.

Travel Exceeds One Year

Christopher McCandless travels throughout the US and Mexico and eventually hitchhikes to Alaska and hikes into the wilderness over the span of two and half years.

Work-Related Travel

(including student travel to attend school)

Prison-Escape Travel (non-pleasure)

Relocation (>year / work-related / health-related)

Personally, I find this relocation more specifically for mental health and work reasons than for pure pleasure reasons.

Runaway

Not wanting to return to the foster care system, Ricky sloppily fakes his own death while burning down Hector and Bella's shed and runs off into the bush.
