Poll Suggestion: Which is the best magic duel for you?

I hope you be patient with me, this is my first time. I created a brief list with all the magic duels I remember, including movies, animated movies and TV movies. I tried to find more, unsuccessfully. I suggest a poll for that people chose which of all is the best magic duel. Thanks in advance.

Hi @Chockys ,

Welcome to the IMDb Poll message board. It's great to have a long time member of and contributor to IMDb suggest a poll.

Thank you for your poll suggestion.

Please be patient with us, since we will have some suggestions to help refine your poll.

Since you've voted in over 250 polls, I hope what I am recommending makes sense.

Please edit you list (https://www.imdb.com/list/ls523971811/) to add a discussion link. You do so by adding this text at the end:

After you save the edits to your list you should see:

Wands, Staffs and Spells

Witchcraft, sorcery, magic... the supernatural side of reality is always interesting to watch, and so exciting too. Here's some of the best duels between good vs. evil in a powerful level of fantasy (sorry, Jedi vs. Sith don't count).

Please discuss here.

@Chockys ,

Thank you for adding the discussion link so quickly.

I'm rather partial to the duel featuring Merlin vs. Madam Mim. in The Sword in the Stone (1963).

Thanks. Honestly, I'm strangely puzzled by the small number of magic duels in so much years of cinema and TV (magic duel = good wizard vs. evil wizard). Hence the reason for my list. If I didn't added Japanese movies or TV series (animated or live action), it's because I haven't remembered an one only.

Sorry mariojacobs, the scene from Conan the Destroyer it's not exactly I would call "a magic duel". And in Scott Pilgrim I don't remember a magic duel, any of Scott's rivals was wizard, sorcerer or magician (Brandon Routh's character had powers because he has vegan and developed special gifts by it, I think).

I remembered a magic duel previously forgotten: Egg Shen vs. Lo Pan in Big Trouble in Little China (1986).

I remember this duel but, to be in the same movie, I prefered the duel of Sirius Black vs. Lucius Malfoy (and Harry vs. Antonin Dolohov) for giving a little of appreciation to Black. Voldemort appears twice in the list, in the Globet of Fire and Deathly Hallows Part 2.

Oh my God, Wizards! I watched this movie when I was 20-21 years old, and never more since then. Totally forgotten out of my mind.

@Chockys ,

I'm assuming that you are a Green Lantern fan, since you use the Green Lantern icon as your avatar. At times duels between members of the Green Lantern Corps look like duels between wizards.

This may be borderline. For your Consideration:

I Married a Witch

Summary from Wikipedia:

Two witches in colonial Salem, the witch Jennifer and her father the warlock Daniel, are burned at the stake after being denounced by Puritan Jonathan Wooley. Their ashes are buried beneath a tree to imprison their evil spirits. In revenge, Jennifer curses Wooley and his male descendants, dooming them always to marry the wrong woman.

Centuries pass. Generation after generation, Wooley men marry cruel, shrewish women. Finally, in 1942, lightning splits the tree, freeing the spirits of Jennifer and Daniel. They discover Wallace Wooley, living nearby and running for governor, on the eve of marrying the spoiled Estelle Masterson, daughter of newspaper publisher J.B. Masterson, who just so happens to be Wooley's chief political backer.

Initially, Jennifer and Daniel manifest as white vertical smoky "trails," occasionally hiding in empty, or sometimes not-so-empty, bottles, some of which are of alcohol. Jennifer persuades Daniel to conjure a human body for her with which to torment Wallace. Daniel needs fire to perform this spell, and so he burns down the Pilgrim Hotel. This serves a dual purpose, as Jennifer uses the emergency to trap Wallace into rescuing her from the burning building.

Jennifer tries hard to seduce Wallace without magic. Even though he is attracted to her, he refuses to call off his marriage. Jennifer concocts a love potion, but the scheme goes awry when a painting falls on her, knocking her out. Wallace revives her by giving her the very drink she had intended for him.

Daniel conjures himself a body, then he and Jennifer crash the wedding, though they are at cross purposes. Daniel hates all Wooleys and tries to prevent his daughter from helping one of them. His attempts at interference land him in jail, too drunk to remember the spell to turn Wallace into a frog. Meanwhile, bride-to-be Estelle finds the couple embracing and the wedding is called off. Outraged, Estelle's father J.B. promises to denounce Wallace Wooley in all his newspapers. Wallace finally admits he loves Jennifer, and they elope.

Jennifer then casts a spell on all the voters and ballots using witchcraft to fix the election - even Wallace's opponent ends up voting for Wallace, and the vote is unanimous. The election's outcome convinces Wallace his new wife is indeed a witch. Daniel warns his daughter that she must be punished for revealing her true nature to a mortal, and takes away her magical powers.

In a panic, Jennifer interrupts Wallace's victory speech, imploring him to help her escape. Unfortunately, the taxi they get in to get away is driven by Daniel. He takes the taxi airborne only to crash it into the original tree from the beginning of the story. At the stroke of midnight, Wallace is left with Jennifer's lifeless body, while two plumes of smoke watch. Before they return to the tree, Jennifer asks to watch Wallace's torment. While Daniel gloats, Jennifer reclaims her body, explaining to Wallace, "Love is stronger than witchcraft." She quickly puts the cork into the bottle of liquor her father is hiding in, keeping him drunk and powerless.

Years later, Wallace and Jennifer have children. The housekeeper enters to complain about their youngest daughter, who enters pretending to ride a broom, to which Jennifer comments "We're going to have trouble with that one."

@dan_dassow I'm not a Green Lantern fan, I'm a Green Lantern insane fan ha ha ha. Absolutely crazy by the GL universe, and I say it in advance: I hate and I disrespect the awful, horrible, totally full of bad cliches and worse CGI that it was Green Lantern (2011) with Ryan Reynolds (only James Newton Howard's score is worthy to me). Would be it possible to create a poll to chose the worst part of the movie (production, acting, cinematography, scene, etc.)?

I watched I Married a Witch years ago. Too much, I think. It's forgotten on my mind.

I'm a fan of GL, but not a super fan. I avoided Green Lantern (2011) like the plague after seeing the trailer for the films and reading GL fan reviews.

Yes, it is possible to create a poll to chose the worst part of Green Lantern (2011). It wouldn't be particularly timely, but it could go live once the poll suggestion would be ready and there is a lull in more timely poll suggestions.

If you need help in assembling this poll suggestion, please feel free to ask.

Generally, since we are in the holiday season and the end of year, holiday related polls will be given preference. After that, award related polls are timely.

@dan_dassow Let it be on the record that when I said about the GL's poll I was joking. However, considering the incredible wave of hate generated in the people to this movie over the years, I'm tempted to change my mind and take it seriously. I have nothing to loose. I would need the enough data to create it, but like the proverb prays, "I game for anything". Time will tell.

@Chockys It has happened to me with several comic book films that are destroyed and I expect so little of them that, when I see them, I actually find them not that bad. That was the case of Green Lantern for me. The character undoubtedly deserves better, but I wasn't bored. Of course I say that not being a super fan (altought Geoff Johns run was great).

The same happened to me with films like Ghost Rider, on the other hand, nothing has been able to save any of the Fantastic Four films for me

At first, I'm not fan of Stephen King, Ok? Do I know his books? Of course I know them, and the movies too. Now try to imagine a 8-books franchise compressed in a 90-mins movie. Result? The Dark Tower (2017). Translated: epic disaster in level God. Well, now you apply it to Green Lantern: compress 52 years of GL adventures (since then Hal Jordan was created in 1959) in only one movie. It stinks to disaster by everywhere too. And it was an absolutely disaster (but, I said previously, the work of James Newton Howard as composer). It's a shame because GL universe by itself, aside of Superman, Batman, etc, it's really big, like Star Wars, Star Trek, etc. A lot of characters, details about GL backstory, allies, foes, etc...and all it went to the drain. Yes, I'm sure that we need this poll ha ha ha ha...
