Live poll: Classic Movies That Should Get a Real 3D or VR Conversion

List page: https://m.imdb.com/list/ls561073783/?ref_=m_ur

Live Poll Page: https://www.imdb.com/poll/qsHxi3lEQFs/

Now that Jaws has been released in theaters with a Real 3D conversion, what other classic 2D film would you like to see get a   Real 3D conversion for the theater or a immersive 3D for VR headsets? It can not be a film that had been previously released in 3D or VR. Which one amongst the following would you pick?

If you got any to suggest, suggest it here. Limit it to 3 suggestions. And you can give a brief suggestion why it would look good on screen in 3D. It just better not be on the IMDb List of 3D films

@ACT_1  “excluding porn?” Yes. And 2001 is added. Jaws is about to be released in 3D. That is the film mentioned in the description.

Space movies have more space for objects to spread out for a good 3-D effect

I have not seen any Star Wars movies
and only Star Treks (with original cast)

Your list - pick what you want

You pick them.  And I wouldn’t say “space for objects for a good 3-d effect”. There was a beautiful shot in “Justice League” where cyborg comes out from nowhere to meet Wonder Woman  and the shot is filled with vertical poles. It is how you compose the shot. The first thing I had learned in the visual portion of film class - composition.

@ACT_1  you made good picks and I see why you chose them. The balloon in Paris, the dismantling the ship at sea, and again a train scene would look fantastic in 3D.

@ACT_1 In regards to “Excluding porn, right?? 😲”, well, if the film was rated “R”, and not “X” and if it can be shown in a regular cinema and not a porn house (if they still exist), YES.
Like: “The Last Tango in Paris”, “50 Shades of Grey”.
what do you have in your mind? (I know you joking. A good joke it was.)

update: no to “The Last Tango in Paris”. It was rated X originally.

@ACT_1 Yes, if someone suggests one. Also, I had to edit that post. Some how autocorrect printed the word “can” instead of the word “and” I had meant to type. As in , “and not “X”…”.

I still like the joke. So don’t worry, I still know you were warning others.

A few days ago, I saw on Quest 2 at Disney released a 3d virtual reality short clip of the viewer riding on Elliot’s back while he is flying. While the dragon didn’t look very convincing, the whole effect and the surrounding scenery was very convincing and made to feel you are riding on a dragon’s back. It was the wind effects that sold it .

@dgranger You should probably remove the comment in number 8 so this can be considered.

Also, you have long comments in the first three options, but not in the rest. You should have the same style, either commenting on all titles or in none of them.

@Pencho15 it is rephrased.
sadly I would have delete the comments for the ones I posted because I knew why they would look good in 3-d. I had ask for people to include a brief description why the film would look good in 3-D, but sadly they didn’t. I had asked for it in the description. I was going copy and pasted their reasons into the notes. I can’t know their reasons why they picked what they picked. I’m not a mind reader. The only one I could figure was Act_1’s by the pictures he had posted. So Jason and the Argonauts is going to stay.

but here is a secret. I know 2001 is going to look fantastic in Real 3-D because I pulled a cheap trick of taking a set of 3-d glasses - right side was shaded while the left side was clear -  (that came with a video about rollercoasters in 3D) (the shaded lens holds up the image for a fraction of a second while the clears let’s the image go through without hindrance and you mind combines the images) and it worked. The space station sequence, running through the space ship, and approach to Jupiter looks awesome in 3D .

Please consider using a shorter title, such as:

Classic Movies Converted to Real 3D or VR Immersive 3D Video

Since you already ask the question in the description, there's no need to have it in the title.

And please correct:

With Jaws (1975) about to be released in theaters

@Jessica the changes in the description are done. I’m trying to shorten the title but I can’t use the one proposed because, as worded, with the word “Converted” being in the past tense with out another before it to modify it into a future tense, it would imply that these films were already have been “Converted” into 3D. That is not what I’m asking. I’m asking what films you would like to see get the conversion. Or, in other words, should get the conversion.

@dgranger ,

Please change:

what other classic 2d film

To:

what other classic 2D film

Also:

Please consider shortening your title of your poll to one that Jess suggests above. Generally, titles should be succinct and should not repeat the question.

Classic Movies Converted to Real 3D

or

VR Immersive 3D Video

@dan_dassow working on it. But a I can’t use the proposed title because it is in the past tense when what I’m asking for requires the use of the future tense.

Can you imagine watching the chariot race from "Ben-Hur" (the Charlton Heston version) in 3-D?

Can you imagine the scene of Peter O'Toole coming across the sands in "Lawrence of Arabia?"  Add that to the battle scenes.

What about the famous Odessa Steps sequence in the Eisenstein masterpiece "Battleship Potemkin?"

@TheOldJalapenoman

TheOldJalapenoman, I don’t like them. I LOVE THEM! Ben Hur is my favorite film of all time!!! But I do have a bit of a thing with quoting the title because “Ben Hur” is not the whole title on the film or the book. It is “Ben Hur: A Tale of the Christ” on both the film and Wallace’s novel.
The others are great films and I agree with you on why they would be great for 3D conversion. May I add the attack on the train, and the final shot of Lawrence through the dirty window of the jeep.

 So, feel honored because I rarely ask for repush, but I’m going to ask for one here. Your three suggestions are added on.

Some things you may not know about Ben Hur: a Tale of the Christ:

The book was written by Lew Wallace, who was a civil war general for the North.  He was later the president of a railroad and then the U.S. Ambassador to Turkey.  After that, he was the territorial governor of New Mexico.  He is the governor depicted in films such as Young Guns who at one time offered a pardon to Billy the Kid, and then died without any evidence of this pardon being granted.  Lew Wallace Elementary School is about four miles from my home in Albuquerque.  I have often thought that there should be a biopic of this man considering everything he accomplished in life.

@TheOldJalapenoman except for the part about “He was later the president of a railroad and then the U.S. Ambassador to Turkey.” I did know most of that. I also know that there was a moral crisis in his life that led to trip to the holy land and the writing of “Ben Hur: A Tale of the Christ”. You can detect it in all the conflicting themes in the book that tear Bsn Hur apart and rebuild him back together again.
