Live Poll: IMDb Poll Board's List of Baby Names

In today's world, it's common to name a child after a beloved character or celebrity. The members of the poll board have chosen names from movies, books or TV shows that they like and think would be suitable for a baby.

Which of these names would you consider giving your own future child or recommend to others?

List: https://www.imdb.com/list/ls567079158/

Poll: https://www.imdb.com/poll/jez_P-oHbaE/

* Max 3 names per user

* It can be names of characters or actors, as long as you like the name

* Please give me an image along with the name

Can we name them after characters?

Of course, that was the idea. :)

Portia, Merchant of Venice (for a daughter)

Paris, Troy (for a son).

I'll come back for a third and honorable mention fourth when inspiration strikes. I've been contemplating those two mentioned names for hypothetical children for decades.

It isn't easy. I was searching for rare names:

Arletty (french actress) (daughter)

Suspiria (film) (daughter)

Aguirre (character) (son)

There a lot of names taken from Racine or Corneille that I would consider too, but they must of them haven't been adapted into films that I have seen. For a boy, I have also thought about "Artamène" in homage to Artamene, but similarly it hasn't been adapted to film. For a girl, I have also considered Lucrèce/Lucretia (In a way, she was important in the fundation of the Roman Republic) and Hypatie/Hypatia (a greek mathematician).

Thanks, I have added Arletty and Aguirre. I'm only considering names of characters or actors.

@Jessica

I looked through Cocteau's films. I think the name I prefer is Orphée (for a boy), a poet, musician and prophet in Greek mythology. Also, it is original enough, since 1980 only 5 boys have bore this name.

PS: Eurydice sounded dated. Belleand Princesse are too much self-aware for me.

But John is rather common, no one would guess that its inspired by Matrix, it might as well come from Rambo or Die Hard...

@Jessica ,

Back in 2007, I wrote a program to generate an alphabetical list of girl, boy and family names based on the orthography for the top 2007 girl and boy names according to the US Social Security administration, and the top 5000 last names from the US Census bureau.

This is a link to Social Security site:

https://www.ssa.gov/oact/babynames/index.html

Top 5000 Last Names from the US Census bureau

https://namecensus.com/last-names/

In case anyone is curious about the results, this is a spreadsheet with those names:

@Jessica, Just a thought, some of these names are unisex: girl names in red, boy names in blue, and unisex names in purple.

Well, the names are taken from characters and actors, so I don't think that would work.

@Jessica, I can see your point, but the question is asking about names and is asking in a unisex way: "Which of these names would you consider giving your own future child or recommend to others?"

I guess I don't understand the need to color-code in the first place, if people could give a male name to a girl and a female name to a boy, anyways.

I've got to think of that one, I'm one of these quick deciders, I came up with my two daughters' names within two-three minutes so I'll try to come up with a movie-related answer for each sex :)

Nah, I'm a quick decider

Sarah

Actually, it's my girl middle name, I wish I could have made it the first but it's incompatible with my last name... unless I want her to have troubles at school, but there are so many ugly puns I can think of... but I just love that name.

I think Sophia would also be a very good choice. The name means "wisdom" in the Hellenistic philosophy.
