Live Poll: Favorite Sean Baker Film

In May, 2024, Sean Baker won the Palm D'Or from the prestigious Cannes Film Festival, becoming the first American filmmaker since 2012 to win the festival's highest honor. The winning film is entitled Anora (2024) and will be released on October 18, 2024. To mark his achievement and the release of the highly anticipated movie, which of Sean Baker's previous films is your favorite?

@Scholle2008 You and I seem to have similar taste so I bet you'll like them. The only two I haven't seen are 'Take Out' and 'Prince of Broadway' -- oh, and Anora, but I'm planning on seeing it soon after it's released.

Good poll, but are you sure you don't want to wait until 'Anora' has been released and include it in the list?

Found a typo: Palme D'Or

@rubyfruit76 and @Jessica

Anora (2024) limited release in the US is Friday October 18, 2024, which coincidentally is one day after IMDb's 34th Anniversary.

@dan_dassow Oh, that's great! I knew its anniversary was in October and I vividly remember all of us doing things for the 25th anniversary but I could never remember the exact date. I think I'll remember it now because I've had the 17th on my calendar for quite a while now because any new Baker film gets a spot on my calendar. : )

@Jessica Thank you, so much, for spotting the typo. What a typo, yikes.

Baker's films usually take a while to climb in votes: this one should follow suit as it is getting only a limited release, like his other movies, so originally I was thinking about it going live hopefully before or on its release date to perhaps give it a little bit of publicity. If 'Anora' was on the list, I'm not sure I could as easily talk about it so much in the intro.

If you'd much rather it include Anora, though, and wait for a bit, that's ok with me. I'm also wondering if another title for the poll might get it a few more looks but I can't imagine what it could be. I thought maybe somehow adding "Palme d'Or" or "Cannes" but I think I could only do that if I limited it to his films that won or were nominated for it and that would cut out 'Tangerine,' which I'm guessing would be the second biggest vote getter.

Good point, I didn't realize that. I agree it's best to keep the poll as it is.

And I think the title is fine. :)

@Jessica Hi Jess and thanks, so much, for the feedback. I was going through options for the poll and getting especially stuck on the title -- and just generally overthinking all of it (surprise, surprise, lol) -- so I really appreciate you letting me know what you think. I'm ok with the poll and title now. : )

@dan_dassow @Jessica  It looks like 'Anora' is being released on the 18th, not 17th. IMDb says October 17 but everywhere else I looked (Movie Insider, The Guardian, etc.) indicated the 18th.

@rubyfruit76

Don't know if you saw it, but your favorite quote from The Florida Project (and maybe all-time?) is in my latest poll:

I should be seeing Anora this Saturday afternoon. Already have my tickets for Memoir of a Snail Saturday night. And A Real Pain for Sunday.

The only Sean Baker movie I seen was Tangerine and I really wasn't a fan.
