Suggestion: Directors in the Green

You have probably heard the terms "in the black" and "in the red," which are idioms in finance meaning operating at a profit (black) and operating at a loss (red). "In the pink" means in good health and "in the white" is used to mean in a natural or unpolished condition. If you stretch the "in-the-color" idioms, perhaps it could be said of the following directors that they are in the green, green being Metacritic's shorthand for "recommended." The directors below have each accomplished an impressive feet: all of their films, as of March, 2026, have received the coveted green scores of 61 - 100, meaning that a movie has received favorable reviews from critics. Which of the following "in the (Metacritic) green" directors would yourecommend most highly?

List: https://www.imdb.com/list/ls4171147305/copy/

Poll: TBD

Inclusionary Criteria

1.) Filmmakers with at least five films with Meta scores are included.

2.) Only feature films of living directors are counted and included.

(Not included in counts are films of unseen footage, compilations of short films, segments of films, and the like.)

The intro feels a little clunky to me. Hopefully, I'll revise the intro to be lighter and more concise.

'Have any suggestions of other directors? Please let me know. Thanks!

@rubyfruit76 ,

I really like the your poll. I made an attempt to shorten your introduction and question:

We often use colors to describe our status: "in the black" for profit, "in the red" for loss, or "in the pink" for good health. In the world of film criticism, being "in the green" is the ultimate goal. On Metacritic, a green score (61–100) indicates favorable reviews and a "recommended" status.

The following directors have achieved a rare feat: as of March 2026, every single one of their films remains "in the green." Which of these consistently acclaimed filmmakers would you recommend most highly?

I wasn't sure from your intro if you included people who have made films that do not have Metascores. It looks like you did. So this could be expressed as something like: of their films that have Metascores, all of them are green.
