I met Billy Dee Williams' face-to-face and maybe briefly shook his hand back in the late 1990s. He has only actually had lead billing in a few of the items in his filmography, though. I attended a presentation by S. Epatha Merkerson, nearly a half decade ago, but I was too shy of an audience member to ask her a question. She is best known for portraying Lieutenant on Law & Order, which is kind of like a supporting role. I don't believe I've ever met a legendary movie star. I would probably remember that. My niece happened to briefly meet Paul Bettany at an airport, a few years ago, while working security there. A cousin in law of mine served as a bodyguard of Marshall Mathers, back in the early 1990s. O, dear. I've probably revealed a little bit more about my identity than I ever intended on this forum. The Dead Reckoning ghost will now be able to positively identify me.

@jeorj_euler Billy Dee Williams is one of the first actors who I remember from my childhood -- for the Star Wars movies. Years later, in my twenties, a friend of mine had his action figure, along with Harrison Ford, Chewbacca, and all of the rest, lined up on his kitchen window sill. : )

I have some of the action figures from that same round/line, from around the time the Special Edition was released.

It depends on what you mean by famous. I live in Canada so our actors are not that well-known worldwide. I was an extra on a TV series, I played with a few actors there, but they were not insanely famous. I met a somewhat famous actress at a cinematheque, she was taking her children see a puppet-animation film. I met numerous actors when I worked as a cashier at Ikea.

The most famous person I have ever met is the Belgian novelist Amelie Nothomb. It represented round-trip of 7 hours, waiting in line for 1 hour. She autographed a book for a girl I liked. The girl was awestruck by my gift, almost moved to tears, she thanked me. I was happy to bring her happiness. But, it had no practical impact. She still rejected me.

I guess the actor should be known in more than one country to be considered famous.

Interesting. I added "I have worked with a famous actor" as an option.

@Jessica ,

I did not see this poll suggestion until now. I have a list of famous people whom I've met in person:

Actors and Actresses I've Met

My choice:

Andreas Katsulas

Andreas Katsulas appeared at Crestwood Plaza in St. Louis on 25 April 1998 as part of TNT’s promotion of Babylon 5: Thirdspace and the fifth season of Babylon 5. I was fortunate enough to have Andreas Katsulas sign the first page of the script for Babylon 5: The Coming of Shadows.

Many of the people who attended the event were there were fans of Star Trek who wanted to meet Mr. Katsulas because of his role as Commander Tomalak on Star Trek: The Next Generation. Mr. Katsulas graciously signed items from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. From what I observed, he chatted with everyone who went through the line. Although, the event was rather long, he seemed to enjoy interacting with the fans.

@Jessica ,

I misunderstood the nature of the poll.

My vote:

I've spoken to or interviewed a famous actor

@Jessica What a good idea, Jess!

One of my friends is a film editor who is fairly well known in the industry but not outside of the industry. When I visited him once in southern California, he had a dinner party of ten people and everyone except me and a neighbor of my friend's was in the industry. The only ones I knew of before that were the director Kelly Reichardt, whose films I love, and Steve Buscemi. I don't get anything close to star struck easily at all but sitting across from Steve Buscemi was quite surreal at first. I grew up watching him, he's so unique and iconic, and I've long believed that he makes any movie better.  It was an honor to meet both of them. I feel like I owe a feminist debt of gratitude to Reichardt.

I was at a fairly small art opening in Williamsburg in NYC and Spike Lee was there. He was right next to me getting refreshments and I did feel a bit like screaming, "wow! I'm getting carrots with Spike Lee!" Instead, he asked me to pass him a bar nap and I told him that I loved his work. And then I said, "And thank you for your courage." I immediately thought that sounded really corny and wanted to crawl under the table and hide. He smiled, though, and said, "I think it's just frustration parading as courage," and laughed. He then said,  "but that's very nice of you to say. I'm going to think about that. Since neither of us has a free hand, I can't shake your hand but thank you." Later he asked me if I like a certain painting. After the art opening when I felt like I didn't need to hide my gushing, my friends got really tired of hearing "Spike Lee was so nice!"  I think I was star struck that night, which I blamed on the fact that I had a glass of champagne after taking cold medicine. : )

Wow. That's amazing Sara.  I can definitely understand that you were star struck. I'm not sure how I would react if I got to meet someone as famous as Steve Buscemi or Spike Lee, but I probably wouldn't be able to stay as cool as you did. :)

I'm not sure if he is really famous, I have to ask my parents his name each time I tell this story, but when I was a kid I was near a Mexican soap opera actor called Sergio Jiménez

I only saw him and I didn't knew who he was, but my younger brother is the protagonist of the story. We were in a mall, he might have been 4 or 5 years old, when he stumbled in the escalator and he started to cry as he was slowly going down. Jiménez saw him, ran to him, took him in his arms and took him back to our mother. Then my brother started crying about a toy that was left in the escalator and Jiménez ran again to pick it up and give it to him.

On our way back home our parents told us he was an actor.

My sister and I were once at a movie convention where several famous people were invited. We didn't talk to any of them but Bruce Campbell walked right by us and we remained awestruck for a few minutes. There was also a panel where people could ask the stars questions. Since many horror movies were heavily censored in Germany until a few years ago, someone asked Dario Argento how he felt about this. He went into a rant saying he found this practice disgusting and even made according facial expressions. I found it funny since our censors probably looked at Argento's movies with the same disgust.
