On January 16, 1942, an airplane, a Douglas DC-3, from Trans World Airlines crashed on the "Double Up Peak" of Mount Potosi. This poll of commemorates the 80th anniversary of the tragedy and the memory of those who perished among which the popular actress Carole Lombard.

Carole Lombard is considered the first woman to be killed during WWII. On January 15, 1944, a ship was named after her.

My father worked for a regional airline that had a fleet of DC-3s and Convair 480s & 580s. I spent a lot of time on DC-3s when I was young. My family flew a few times per year on standby during the 1960s.

I modified that line. My source said "first woman". However, as you mentioned, certainly other women died before her. Even if I counted only American women, it is said that over 250 women have perished at Pearl Harbor.
