Hello @Tsarstepan.

My two choices would be Jeopardy! and Family Double Dare.

Thanks.

@themoviesmith Can you elaborate on which Family Double Dare you referring to? There are three popping up. Jeopardy is on the big board.

Is this the one? Family Double Dare (1990- )?

@Tsarstepan ,

Since @themoviesmith chose my top favorite, Jeopardy! (1984– ), these are my second and third choices:

Password (1961–1975)

The original version with Allen Ludden as the host and Betty White as a frequent celebrity contestant.

Two celebrity-contestant teams compete to guess words by giving one-word clues in this all-time classic game show.

I just realized that this effectively would be the Betty White choice.

= = =

Concentration (1958–1973)

Two contestants revealed pieces of a rebus-like puzzle by matching 15 pairs of cash amounts and prizes, then tried to solve it before the other.

I prefer the original host, Hugh Downs.

As my two favorites are already taken (Jeopardy and Concentration), I'm going to have to go:

Match Game (the version from the 70's with Gene Rayburn as the host).  It was renamed every year as Match Game '73, Match Game '74,  etc.

The Newlywed Game (the version from the 70's).

I think that both of these were actually comedy shows masquerading as game shows!

Likewise, The Dating Game (1965–1986), The Hollywood Squares (Daytime) (1965–1980) and The Gong Show (1976–1980) were primarily comedy shows with the trappings of game shows.

@dan_dassow The Hollywood Squares would have actually been my next choice!  Charlie Weaver, Wally Cox, Paul Lynne... names probably only you and I remember!

Nothing is funnier than Japanese game shows. There are so many shows that I do not even what they're called.

@Tsarstepan, how many can we pick?

One that I remember, which I grew up watching, is Takeshi's Castle. It's an old show. It used to be dubbed by Jaaved Jaaferi for Indian audiences.

Tsarstepan: As long as we get two selections, I would like to nominate "The $10,000 Pyramid" (1973-1991) as my other choice.

@gromit82 I'm so old that I remember it was the $50 dollar Pyramid when it started!  Dick Clark was the host even back in the dark ages.  Yes, that's all a joke.

@Jessica I'm technically cheating here. They're members of another forum where I asked this question. Born out of ... impatience for nominations.

Oh, okay. That's unusual. I guess technically it is cheating, and kind of similar to asking a friend or family member (someone not from the poll board). I think I recall that from another poll years ago, though I'm not sure..

Maybe we can make an exception.

Since What's My Line is taken, I'll go with long standing Spanish game show Saber y ganar (Knowing and Winning)

I don't watch it anymore since they moved it to a different time, but I enjoyed it for a long time.

Since RuPaul's series is on there, I'm assuming reality show contests are ok? If so, Survivor

@rubyfruit76 Yeah. I don't understand how reality shows are counted as game shows but that's how IMDb accepts entries into the genre. Added.

@Tsarstepan Thanks, Tsar. I've seen very few reality shows except for Survivor and I'm of two minds about how some should be categorized. I've never seen reality shows like the Kardashians but, from what I understand, there's no game or contest involved there so, if that's accurate, "game show" doesn't at all apply. I suppose I can understand why shows such "Survivor" or "The Amazing Race," however, and maybe even cooking contest series could be considered game shows. For example, "Survivor" is a game, albeit a different kind of game with a very different format, but it shares many of the same elements: a match of wits and skills between contestants with a monetary prize for the winner. I've never seen RuPaul's show.

Anyway, thanks for adding it. : )  My second choice would be "Jeopardy," which was already taken. I like puzzles like "Wheel of Fortune" has but I'm not crazy about all the glitz and giddiness of that series, lol.

Doesn't looks like Kardashians is under the game show genre according to its page. Glad we missed that heinous crime against humanity.

Personally, I've been fuming over IMDb's definition of horror. Where movies like trying to get Perfect Blue get the horror genre and being denied (despite it being deemed one of the all time greatest horror animes ever). And IMDb allowing the Hotel Transylvania movies to be in the horror genre.
