Two films I went to see with incredibly high expectations based on reviews, and that I ended loathing as they bored me as very few have managed to do are Lost in Translation and The Hurt Locker.
The members of the IMDb Poll Board have chosen a movie they had high expectations for but disappointed them. Which movie should have been better in your opinion?
1988's Nightfall was based on an original story by Isaac Asimov. The story was voted the best short story in the first 100 years of science fiction, but the movie was so terrible that I walked out less than thirty minutes into it. I tried rewatching on television ten or so years later and couldn't finish it then either.
When I saw this thread, my first thought was Nightfall (1988). It is my second favorite short story / novelette after after "The Last Question". "The Last Question" is also Isaac Asimov's favorite short story. I saw the trailer for the film and realized immediately that the film ruined Asimov's classic short story.
@dan_dassow I once saw a planetarium show of The Last Question. It was a favorite short story for many years, but I have not thought about it or read it for a long time. As a kid, Asimov was my favorite writer.
I have been letting my kids and grandkids take books from my personal library (it was up to over 4000 books). If they take what they want now, it will be easier to clean out my house when I die and I can't reread them now anyways. Two months ago, one of my granddaughters cleared out my Asimov (paperback and hardback). She got over two boxes of books with just his works.

Reminiscence was a pretty big let down.
The Pirate of the Caribbean sequels too.
But, my pick goes to The Matrix (1999).

My pick:
Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One
Perhaps the text is clearer like this:
