Poll Suggestion: Favorite John Ford Stock Company Supporting Cast

John Ford, winner of 4 Academy Awards for Best Director often used the same actors again and again. They became known as the "John Ford Stock Company." Which of these actors/actresses who were often seen as supporting players in legendary director John Ford's films is your favorite?

Victor McGlaglen.

May I suggest two small edits to the intro? (Really good intro, btw!) (edits in bold below: just two commas added and, mostly, "Which" changed to "Who")

While John Wayne, Henry Fonda, and Jimmy Stewart were often Ford's headliners, there was an extensive cast of supporting actors who rarely, if ever, got to headline a movie. Who is your favorite?

@riverotter,

As Jessica points out above:

You repeat the question twice in your list. Please remove the second one.

Who is your favorite? Who is your favorite?

@dan_dassow unfortunately, that is under my old username, and I forgot the logon info for that. I think I used an email account I no longer use

@riverotter ,

This is a good poll and I believe it is worth recreating with your current IMDb account. If you wish to recreate, it is relatively easy to copy the items from a list in one IMDb account to a list in your current account.

Ok, I have not had to post a link to a list in a LONG time, and the help page offers NO help on how to do it! Can someone tell me how to post a link to a list?

@riverotter ,

It's good to see you back.

Change:

List: [link]=https://www.imdb.com/list/ls566030746/[/link]

To:

https://www.imdb.com/list/ls566030746/

Then do a carriage return after the link:

https://www.imdb.com/list/ls566030746/

That will make the link clickable.

By the way, poll admins and other champions can no longer edit other people's posts.

@riverotter ,

Thanks. You indeed fixed the link.

FYI: IMDb's lists and polls use a version of BBCode, a lightweight markup language. Sprinklr does not use BBCode.

Please add Maureen O'Hara to the list.  She often played The Duke's wife, girlfriend, or romantic interest.

@TheOldJalapenoman I think she might be too big of a star to add. I was thinking more on the lines of the character actors.

You have a link tag at the start of your text in the list that doesn't need to be there. The discussion link itself looks fine.

Thanks

Please don't add "Poll:" in the text as this would look odd in the poll.

The title doesn't need a period, and the word member can be capitalized:

Favorite Member of the John Ford Stock Company

@riverotter ,

Please capitalize "Member" in the title of your list as Peter recommended above.

Please change:

Favorite member of the John Ford Stock Company

To:

Favorite Member of the John Ford Stock Company

Congratulations Riverotter.

Now that your poll is live, please remember to change it from the idea to the praise category.

John Carradine is literally the only one I know. And he's been in so many terrible movies that come across the MST3k and Rifftrax path. I guess he gets my default vote.

@TsarstepanJohn Carradine is one of all-time greatest character actors. He was in a lot of schlock, but he never phoned it in, not to mention that he's the only person (or one of the very few, because you never can be sure) to be in the classic Universal Monsters movies, John Ford movies, classic Film Noir, Troma movies, two versions of The Twilight Zone, "Kung Fu", slashers and zombie movies.

Also it's endearing but a bit sad that both his and Cameron Mitchell's last movie is Jack-O (1995). Much like Bela Lugosi in Plan 9 from Outer Space (1959) it feels like a fitting end for a prolific career to someone try and squeeze the last performance out of outtakes. It's exploitative, a bit, but for 1995 it feels more like an homage than an audience bait. Maybe I'm biased, though, because as a filmmaker myself I get what can cause such situations. Some of my regular actors live in different countries and cities, sometimes on unaccessible, occupied territories, so I sometimes resort to such techniques as well. My short The Prisoners Dilemma (2012) turns ten in a few days and during these ten years more people seen it cannibalized in subsequent projects than in its original form. :)

IMHO, Ward Bond is the greatest character actor ever.
