LIVE POLL: Famous Movie Quotes as Haikus

This poll doesn't try to trivialize the poetry of Haikus, which obey a certain sets of rules without being locked in a cage of didacticism.

The rules of Haikus are the following:

It has three lines. It has five syllables in the first and third lines. It has seven syllables in the second line. Its lines don't rhyme. It includes a kireji, or cutting word. It includes a kigo, a seasonal reference.

With that in mind, I humbly tried to 'hiaku-ize' some famous movie quotes following as many rules as I could... asking for your indulgence, my question is the following:

Which of these famous quotes work the best as a haiku?

@ElMaruecan82 ,

Nicely done; you clearly have mastered the Haiku poetry form. I'm having a very hard time choosing my favorite.

You've been the master of quote based polls; this is but the latest example.

@rubyfruit76 would love this poll.

Now do sonnets.

Sonnets have more restrictive rules than haikus, I'm afraid it'd take too much space... but I'll think of making a poll with alexandrine movie lines.

@ElMaruecan82 and @Peter_pbn ,

It can be done. However, sonnets tend to be long. For example I asked Google Bard the following and got the sonnet below.

= = =

Use the following as the basis of a Shakespearian sonnet:

Our bodies are earth. Zzz.

We sleep - We eat with death.

And our thoughts are clay.

= = =

From earthly clay, our bodies we behold,

A fragile form, a vessel to embrace,

Where thoughts like tendrils, intricate and bold,

Unfold, entwined within this mortal space.

In slumber's grasp, our consciousness suspends,

A realm of dreams where shadows softly play,

Where life's incessant clamor gently ends,

And thoughts like embers fade into the gray.

Yet in this stillness, life's essence does endure,

A spark unextinguished, ever bright,

A silent symphony that will procure

New melodies of being, shining light.

For death's embrace is but a transformation,

A passage from the seen to unseen spheres,

Where thoughts transcend their earthly limitations,

And soar to realms beyond our mortal fears.

Please add spaces between the lines, otherwise it will look like this:

Our bodies are earth Zzz. We sleep - We eat with death And our thoughts are clay.

@Jessica

Okay, I added like 3 or 4 spaces between each line in the first entry, can you tell me if it's readable now, so I can apply it to the others.

I still see this:

Our bodies are earth. Zzz.

We sleep - We eat with death.

And our thoughts are clay.

Should be:

Our bodies are earth.

Zzz. We sleep - We eat with death.

And our thoughts are clay.

How about now?

@ElMaruecan82 ,

@Jessica indicated blank lines between lines of text, not blank spaces at the end of each line. Sadly, the poll admin tool has quirks; this is but one of them.

Got it, how about now?

Thank. It looks great.

I'm still having a hard time choosing just one. In haiku form, the quotes take on a lyrical aspect.

@ElMaruecan82 ,

I do not understand why the text wrapped considering you added blank lines in between the lines of text.

Hello, did you write these poems?

Yes and no. They were based on actual movie quotes but I had to rephrase them so they could blend in harmony with the poetic simplicity of haikus... and it wasn't simple at all

I realized when I reviewed your poll suggestion that you put a lot of work into adapting the movie quotes to the haiku poetic form. I'm still in awe that you came up with so many lovely poems.

@ElMaruecan82 They were really beautiful poems,I hope you continue to be a poet, I also sometimes write poetry💐🙏, but we don't usually sing haiku, it's mostly sonnets(ghazal).

The end of each stanza ends like this

1#     2#

3+     4#

5-      6#

to the end

good luck (:

I just love poetry, French poetry principally but also English poetry and -as a matter of fact- Arabic poetry, too, I used to study that in school (ghazal, rithaa, etc.) funny because in Moroccan, ghazal is associated to flirting or sweet-talking lol

@ElMaruecan82 In Iran, however, the poems are usually associated with mysticism, monotheism(towhid) and life lessons, of course, all of these are in the form of romantic poetry, for example, poets such as mulana (Rumi), Hafez, Saadi

Forgive my ignorance, I'm only familiar with Omar Khayyam...

@ElMaruecan82 By the way, your information is very good.
The interesting thing about Khayyam is that in Iran and the world he is known mostly as a poet, but he was mostly a scientist (philosopher, mathematician and astronomer).
His poems are usually quatrains (robaei)
just four

Come my friend. Let s forget the cares of tomorrow.

And instead enjoy this moment of our life.

For tomorrow when we have left this ancient abode.

We shall be equal to all the seven thousand year olds!.
