Live Poll: Movie Images to Put You in Autumn Mood (First Days of Autumn)

Autumn isn't a season we generally embrace as enthusiastically as spring or summer (even winter whose beginning announces Christmas and New Year's Eve parties).

And for all its melancholic aspect, there's something emotionally riveting in that beautiful palette of gold, beige and sepia tones, in the beautiful foliage and the capricious weather. Indeed, autumn can be a time for reflection and introspection, a time of lucidity and nostalgia, perhaps the most appropriate time for life-changing experiences.

So, celebrating the First Days of Autumn, here are a series of images representing in a way or another the season without evoking school, Halloween or Thanks giving (not visually anyway).

Which of these movie images puts you in "Autumn Mood" the most efficiently?

ElM,

Very seasonal poll.

My vote:
Image

You have some gorgeous images in your poll. The cropping for most of your images don't work well. It may not be practical to have well cropped images in the first five.

Thanks for the link, Dan. I couldn't get to it from my list' page so I kept updating yours. I wonder how I can have this "crop" view for my other suggestions.

I uploaded between 5 and 10 new pics, and they seem to have that "central" quality so we're not in a hurry for this poll, in 1 or 2 days, I think we'll have enough material. Any other suggestions are welcome by the way.

ElM,

There is no link to the grid view for image lists. I had to edit the link to remove "#1" and add "?view=grid"

I couldn't find any other place to comment on on your comments on autumn. I don't know what you're talking about. Do you not live in a state that sees the leaves changing. Autumn heralds new beginnings, etc.

Thanks Jen.

I had uploaded a GWH one already, you can find it on the list.
Rushmore was already there but I had it replaced. To be honest, I like the one you suggest better but it's the only one with the cinematic format and it looks awkward with the other images.
I added many of your suggestions, but I'm not sure about the Rudy one, it's not as autumn evocative as Dan in Real Life

'Beautiful images, Elmo. And great intro.I love this poll!

There are some great autumn photos from Kramer vs. Kramer and A Few Good Men but they weren't on iMDb yet so I uploaded and submitted them. I'll keep an eye out for them and let you know if and when they appear.

These aren't as good but kind of nice: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3322364/mediaviewer/rm4042579968

Thanks ruby, there were a few typo mistakes in the intro, I had to do some rewriting.
Let me know when your pics are ready, I had uploaded many pics on Saturday and I'm still waiting, I hope we'll have everything before the end of the month.
I put 2 of your pictures (damn, if Concussion isn't an autumn film, I don't know what it is) I love the Rocky one but the image speaks a thousand words and 'autumn' might be in the 900's ranking :)

'Good point about the Rocky image. :)  it doesn't really clearly show autumn, anyway. I'm glad the Concussion image works: I thought the autumn colors in the background are very pretty and I'm from Pittsburgh, where the movie is set and filmed, and know that fall is gorgeous there, but I didn't realize, until you said it, that Concussion really is a an autumn film. :)

You need to go way back to a movie called, "Peyton Place."

Thanks but for the sake of evocative imagery, I focus on movies in color (no old films discrimination, Trouble with Harry is there :))

I think the crop view works for all the pics now, i'm still waiting for some (including ruby's uploads) I hope it won't take too much time... there's one from "Fantastic Mr. Fox" I'm still waiting for!

Just curious of your responses to the following questions - not suggesting you remove them.

Despite the title, the photo from Autumn Sonata doesn't particularly = autumn to me.

How is the Amelie photo autumn-ish?

Believe me, I spent hours checking all the pictures of the Hitchcock underrated classic, the issue was with the cropping, but I'll check again the one with the reader, it's my favorite. And if you don't find it, that means it didn't work (by the way, I had uploaded the one with Forsythe carrying his painting but again, the cropping just didn't work)

I might remove the two pictures that don't seem autumnish, both of them were picked when I didn't have as many pics as I do now, I liked the one with Amélie because it's set exactly at the end of the film and the narrator says it's the 28 or 27 September (which means autumn) and then you have the sepia texture, but maybe I should stick to my guns and only keep the pictures with a natural setting.

I'll work on that list one last time. Your Don't Look Now suggestion with the forest in the background was a good one.

Hi Elmo, the images I uploaded are up now:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0079417/mediaviewer/rm4220462848 (from Kramer vs.Kramer - gorgeous image, I think, not just because of the actors' embrace but the leaves on the ground, subtly color-changing leaves, some bare trees... and ah, Central Park)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0079417/mediaviewer/rm3314493184 (also from Kramer vs. Kramer but does not crop well)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0104257/mediaviewer/rm3482265344 (from A Few Good Men: amazing colors; beautiful foliage, etc.)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0104257/mediaviewer/rm3364824832 (also from A Few Good Men, but doesn't show autumn as clearly or vibrantly; still some pretty leaves and rain)

And I'm afraid the picture I liked doesn't work, with the cropping, it's like 90% of blood, 5% of Donald Sutherland's face and 5% of autumn

That's not blood, it's her famous red jacket - she drowned, but I see what you're saying.

Just for fun:

The "thing" in your picture is the reason why I only saw the film once and totally forgot about the movie, that final closeup scared the ***** out of me.

The intro is so beautifully and evocatively written (which most of your introductions are), but I noticed  two typos and have one other suggestion:  (in bold below)

And for all its melancholic aspects, there's something emotionally riveting in that unique palette of gold, beige and sepia tones, in the fragile, beautiful foliage and the unpredictable, capricious weather. Indeed, autumn can be a time for reflection and introspection, a time of lucidity and nostalgia, perhaps the most appropriate time for life-changing experiences.

So, celebrating the First Days of Autumn, here are a series of images representing in a way or another the season without evoking school, Halloween or Thanksgiving (not visually anyway).

Which of these movie images puts you in "Autumn Mood" the most efficiently?  (And I think the word that works here is "effectively", not "efficiently.")

Thanks a lot, I picked the two images that looked better with the cropping taken a consideration, Meryl Streep totally disappears in the first pic, you don't see the kid in the second but the image still works.

I think the poll is ready now.

Yeah, the kid is cute but not at all essential to get that seasonal feel of the photo.

Sorry for being so late, I have some problems with the Internet and I wanted to thank everybody who contributed to that poll (some images did look gorgeous), you've probably got your answer by now but all you have to do is write [link= ](no space after the "=") then the title of the page, the "here" if you want and then you close with [/link].
After the "=" you paste the link you just copied. Hope it helped.
