I'm not sure if the Terminator is qualified. Part of being an adult is having previously been a child.

I would like to suggest one under the theme of "castaways", but I am unable to source a screenshot of adequate quality and unaware of any other movie with such a specific situation, so I will not. In a way, Lost suffices.

Not sure if this counts either, but I remember in "Home Alone" Kevin made friends with an old man who turned out to be really sweet.

I added a photo for Home Alone with both of them in it. I'll let you know when it's approved.

I suggest that Big doesn't count because Josh is still a kid, just in an adult's body.

You should try and find a different photo for Frodo and Gandalf.

FYC:
Harold and Maude - Harold and Maude
The President and Charlie - The West Wing
Alfred and Bruce - Gotham
Tin Tin and Haddock - The Adventures of Tintin
Mary and Max - Mary and Max
Aladdin and Genie - Aladdin

Travis and Iris - Taxi Driver
Charlotte and Bob - Lost in Translation
Daniel and Mr. Miyagi - Karate Kid

Running out of space was inevitable. We have to figure out the "Top 35".

Jeorj, I'm not "getting" a lot of these photos - can't tell what they are from.

Hi, Jen. Thanks for showing interest. I figure that if at least one person cares to know about a particular screenshot then at least one person will ask for it to be identified, otherwise nobody cares. The one accompanying my "that reminds me" remark is probably the least iconic. It's of First Kid, starring comedian Sinbad.

Which other screenshots are anybody having trouble figuring out to which movies they belongs? Two of them come from movies that are in IMDb's Top 100, as of the time of this posting, thus I'd imagine that at least a few of the regular participants of the IMDb Poll discussions recognize them, leaving the three potentially-difficult-to-recognize screenshots that each contain a high-profile grownup.

Frodo is not a kid, he was thirty-three in the first movie.

I know I already told you this, but I do love this poll. : ). You chose good images, too.  Having Bob and Charlotte (from 'Lost in Translation') on the list feels a little creepy to me, though: I love the movie but one of the reasons their relationship is so sweet is that she is not a kid. She's out of college, is married, and is probably about 24. If she were just a kid, the film would feel very different. Having them on the list and implying that she's a child feels a little creepy to me, 'you know?

We've run out of space, but here is another cool but non-iconic duo:

Ok, since teacher-student relationships and employer-employee should be removed, I erased Karade Kid, Leon, Taare Zameen Par and Nuovo Cinema Paradiso. Which movie is in the picture?

Do T.V. shows also count?

I have three options from T.V. shows: 2 from Game of Thrones and 1 from LOST, so they count.

It's a good poll, very good but you should stick to "kids" as children, not young adults or teens, they're only kids from the 'older ones' perspective but they're adult nonetheless.

Allow me to insist on that because there are not many movies where there's a true and genuine friendship between an adult and a child, because it's something that rarely happens in the first place, it's very special so it makes for a good story and an interesting subject for a poll, having Doc and Marty or Travis and Iris or Sean and Will is just off-topic because they're people caught in adult situations or dealing with adult issues (even undesired ones) so they're likely to be more promiscuous with adult figures, which takes away the whole specificity of the "adult and kid" friendship.

And don't get me started on Harold and Maude, it's a platonic romance, man!

And there are so many options with good potential:
A Perfect World: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0107808/mediaviewer/rm1986842112
Miracle on 34th Street:  https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0039628/mediaviewer/rm4004082944
The Sixth Sense:
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0167404/mediaviewer/rm384336128
(well, it develops into a friendship..)
Leon the Professional: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0110413/mediaviewer/rm993345280
The Jungle Book: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0061852/mediaviewer/rm1671016448
Interview With the Vampire: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0110148/mediaviewer/rm2350388992 (she froze in age but was still a child)
The original True Grit
Gloria: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080798/mediaviewer/rm101286912

I guess there must be something with Shirley Temple, Mickey Rooney or young Elizabeth Taylor, anyway...

PS: who's Marley in Home Alone?

All the suggestions added. Marley from Home Along is the guy from the church, his neighbor I think. I added a better picture of him.

I would have suggested to remove Marley, it's a friendship all right but it's not even one tenth of the film's narrative meat and is only used to pay off at the climax, not really a plot-structuring friendship.

Anyway, glad to see some of my last-minute suggestions doing so well!

Congrats for the poll!

NarniaisAwesome,

A 500 (Internal Server) Error occasionally happens when accessing list and polls. It it persists, you use the link to report the problem via email.
