Hey @marco - we absolutely respect our contributors and especially the users here on Sprinklr who are some of the most passionate users of IMDb.

You're right that sometimes posts get lost in the shuffle, or that are misinterpreted or the comments inside a thread are pretty long and in our attempts to solve as many threads as possible for our users we miss some of the points.

Also in most cases once a thread is solved it's not revisited. I try to keep an eye on comments on my old threads but there's hundreds at this point so again we do miss those.

I know I'm guilty of all of the above, and if that's ever happened to your posts or comments I do apologise.

But on to the matter at hand - let's talk problems. Can you reply to me here with every unsolved problem you've got and I'll look at all of them.

I can't promise solutions for them all, especially the "five new genres" discussed in your posts as that's miles above my level, but I will do my damndest to get back on track.

@Grayson I hope to be able to provide an answer with unsolved problems tomorrow evening but just want to post this message to thank you for the response, I really appreciate it.

@Grayson Well, here are some issues I was able to find. I'll leave out policy issues I disagree with, I might add them in another post at another time. Later in the week, I'll check for possible other issues that are still waiting. Please note the number of bumps in most of these posts.

https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/data-issues-policy-discussions/countries-an-attribute-for-a-release-date-2/600dcb09ee7d63064895e009

(this one's very recent, but AFAIK, contributors can't search for attributes, so staff needs to fix this)

https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/data-issues-policy-discussions/loss-of-votes-for-ideas/5fd3fa4dc7b3b92d0a9bfe34

(last update: Oct 5th, 2020, when a staffer said it was passed on to the technical team.)

https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/data-issues-policy-discussions/please-add-the-shipibo-language-to-the-database/5f4a7ae28815453dbabfa6bc

(adding the language Shipibo to the database. This was first asked in January 2015 (!))

https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/data-issues-policy-discussions/200516104611401302-declined-why/5f4a7ca38815453dba0d490a

(are duplicated photos allowed in some cases? I'm still not sure)

https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/data-issues-policy-discussions/castacting-credits-guidelines-update-for-section-g-cast-orders/5f4a7c918815453dba0a38d1

(slight tweaking of a guideline asked for)

(attributes None, none, no dialogue are still displayed when updating)

https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/data-issues-policy-discussions/black-and-white-andor-colour-attribute-issues/5f4a79fe8815453dba9498d6?topic-reply-list=[object%20Object]#reply_20443185

(you don't have a guide for color/black & white information, at least since September 2018)

https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/data-issues-policy-discussions/cause-of-death-alzheimers-disease/5f4a7b828815453dbadadd09?topic-reply-list=[object%20Object]#reply_20443171

(several spellings of cause of death Alzheimer's disease won't get fixed)

https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/data-issues-policy-discussions/more-than-five-summaries-per-title-shouldnt-be-allowed/5f4a7a278815453dba9abef1

(IMDb doesn't allow more than five summaries, so why not have a block, or at least a yellow warning?)

https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/data-issues-policy-discussions/blocking-tv-shows-that-cant-be-that-old/5f4a79f28815453dba91e84c

(talking about blocks, why can people still add tv series from 1922: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt12102870/reference ?)

https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/data-issues-policy-discussions/add-a-process-to-cleanup-empty-name-pages-on-imdb/5f4a79e28815453dba8e567a

(there are tens of thousands of cluttering name pages out there)

https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/data-issues-policy-discussions/part-of-last-name-ter/5f4a79e38815453dba8e89b4?page=2

(a red warning should become a yellow one, or none at all)

and https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/data-issues-policy-discussions/voiceovervoiceovervoice-over/5f4a79d58815453dba8c918c

(non-fixed duplicated attributes for a few years now)

@Grayson I've found some more issues that haven't been (fully) dealt with, these are more long-standing issues that could use an update more often as well as some context so it's easier to understand why it takes as long as it does:

https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/data-issues-policy-discussions/profile-photos/5f4a79fb8815453dba9423da

(I don't think this is a policy matter because there used to be something like this, called the Family Tribute Waiver, or something like that. Also can this thread be merged into the one above please: https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/data-issues-policy-discussions/enable-users-to-add-images-to-dead-peoples-imdb-profiles-without-imdbpro/5f4a79e78815453dba8f40d4 ?)

https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/data-issues-policy-discussions/alternative-titles-for-tv-episodes/5f761adc35f40c384eb1ac75

(an update on alternate titles for episodes would be nice, although I fully understand this is probably not an easy task)

https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/data-issues-policy-discussions/dubious-images-on-american-tv-news-series/5f4a7c778815453dba05e3be

(has this problem of dubious images on (American) TV news series been fixed? I don't think so, but am not sure)

https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/imdbcom/imdb-glossary/5f4a79e68815453dba8eed63

(is a glossary on a roadmap somewhere?)

https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/data-issues-policy-discussions/suggestion-for-new-feature-voice-actors/5f4a79878815453dba80787a

(when can we add the folks who've given their voices to (children's) titles that have been seen by millions and millions of people? If IMDb truly wants to be international, this is a must)

https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/data-issues-policy-discussions/implementation-of-new-genres/5f4a7a638815453dbaa6da98

(is ordering other works on any roadmap? Michelle told the applicable team in July 2018, but we haven't heard anything since)

https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/data-issues-policy-discussions/will-oscars-highlights-badges-for-older-years-pre2005-ever-be-added/5f4a7b268815453dbacbfcd1

(asking for consistency when it comes to badges, no big issues, but you have to admit that the current situation is rather, eh, limited and random)

https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/data-issues-policy-discussions/othermiscellaneous-crew/5f4a79d18815453dba8c1513

(a plea for consistency regarding the other/misc./additional crew)

https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/data-issues-policy-discussions/theatrical-release-theatrical-release-and-theatrical-release/5f4a79d78815453dba8cde3c

(again an issue with attributes, this time theatrical releases)

https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/data-issues-policy-discussions/add-new-language-palawa-kani/5f4a7c4b8815453dbaff2160

(there's another language waiting to be added. Note the number of bumps. We don't want everything instantly, but we do want to be heard and listened (and responded) to)

https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/data-issues-policy-discussions/bug-list/5f4a79408815453dba76c79e

(is a return of the bug list on any roapmap? And please note the bumps for another top contributor for years)

https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/data-issues-policy-discussions/display-language-attributes/5f4a79b58815453dba86f8d6

(not displaying language attributes gives the customers less information)

https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/data-issues-policy-discussions/updates-to-box-office-on-imdb-title-pages-imdbpro/5f4a79d58815453dba8ca012?commentId=5f4a7b348815453dbace4964

((when) will admission numbers be back on IMDb? In December 2017 Col said that "it should be available again)

A separate post for this thread: https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/data-issues-policy-discussions/implementation-of-new-genres/5f4a7a638815453dbaa6da98

This thread is, to me at least, a culmination of what's wrong with IMDb. It concerns an issues that has been on the horizon since 2010. Also, note the number of bumps and the lack of response from staff. Apart from the decade it has taken (and counting) and the failure of communication, it suggests - at least to me - that IMDb might have to take another look at their priorities. Genres are one of the most basic things for a movie, tv and video games database, but despite that, IMDb doesn't seem to care too much about fixing this issue...

@Grayson Well, here's an example of a very simple question not being answered: https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/data-issues-policy-discussions/210204183506214502-declined-why/602add3b437ff445370c75d8

Apart from that, my second question (why was it marked 'Acknowledged'?) will probably also remain unanswered. Perhaps it would be a good idea to honestly state that IMDb is understaffed. Given the fact that I don't know any big company that is not understaffed, I see no reason not to simply admit that. Be honest and take your contributors seriously.

Something tells me not all issues I've mentioned here have been dealt with or answered, so I figured a bump wouldn't hurt.

@daniel_francis_gardecki "You have to make new threads to get attention."

I might do that, but as you say, it remains a matter of https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0061512/quotes/qt0303196 :)

I'll take the rest of this month as well as May off from contributing, maybe that'll save up some time to actually respond to contributors.

(and yes, I know there are several teams with all of them having their own work, but signals must be send every now and again I think)

Factual shows are specifically shows like current affairs, quiz shows, game shows, talent shows, fly-on-the-wall shows, and documentaries where you learn something.

IMDb already has the genres News, Talk-show, Game Show, Documentary and Reality-TV. I think these are all more specific than the Factual genre you propose so I fail to see why it would be a good idea to have Factual as a genre. (that said, when it comes to the medium tv, the genre Soap Opera is very much needed, but that's a different issue)

IMO, it seems that the rest of your post might be better dealt with if you would create a separate post for each item.

Is there an "educational" genre? if not, then maybe there ought to be.

@jeorj_euler I believe this has been proposed over a decado ago, in the same period when the infamous five new genres were chosen and defined. I believe it was agreed upon it would be a good genre, but I'm not sure.
