Live Poll: Unforgettable Science Fiction Performances

Intro:

All these science fiction characters are golden ones in the genre.

Which of them is the most unforgettable?

Tell us here.

Suggestions:

Only the most unforgettable science fiction characters. No documentations, animations, TV-Series. Only 2 per franchise. No superhero movies, characters which are priliminary SciFi-characters, not just only because the movie is tagged as Sci-Fi. Example: Mad Max is tagged as SciFi, but when I hear Mad Max, I don't really think of SciFi. The connotation is not strong enough for the science fiction genre. No superhero movie's characters.

@Breumaster,

For your consideration:

Dr. Morbius (Walter Pidgeon) in Forbidden Planet (1956)

A starship crew goes to investigate the silence of a planet's colony only to find two survivors and a deadly secret that one of them has.

Walter Pidgeon in Forbidden Planet (1956)

= = =

H. George Wells (Rod Taylor) in The Time Machine (1960)

A man's vision for a utopian society is disillusioned when travelling forward into time reveals a dark and dangerous society.

Maybe you should limit 1 or max 2 characters per film, there are just far too many iconic.

FYC:

Cobb from Inception

Neo from The Matrix

Marty from Back to the Future

Robert and Alfred from The Prestige

Wall E from Wall E

Max from Mad Max

Rick from Blade Runner

James and Jeffrey from 12 Monkeys

Agent K and Agent J from MIB

Probably some Avengers or other superheroes unless you are excluding them.

Not so iconic but maybe someone from Jurrasic Park, probably T-Rex. 😀

There so many more that I haven't listed.

No animated to avoid a flood of animes.

I know Mad Max is also tagged as science fiction, but I want characters, which are strongly connoted to that. I don't get what's science fiction an that movie. It's just an apocalyptic movie, which seems to be not really fiction. There are no scientific parts on it. I think the connotation to the genre is very weak. I replenished it in the intro here on gs. I've put most of your picks on the second list.

Thank you for adding them. 🙂

I think you can remove E.T. Not sure it was really a character performance.

IMDb defines sci-fi as "Numerous scenes, and/or the entire background for the setting of the narrative, should be based on speculative scientific discoveries or developments, environmental changes, space travel, or life on other planets."

Mad Max fall into 'environmental changes' if you still want to think about it.

Since you have got 2nd list, more FYC:

You missed characters from 12 Monkeys

Donnie from Donnie Darko

Alex from A Clockwork Orange (Soft Sci-fi)

Katniss from Hunger Games

Theodore from Her

Ava from Ex Machina

Theo from Children of Men

Plus are you excluding superhero sci-fi? There are tons of them. 😀

Thank you, Briesh. Your point about E.T. is correct. I kicked him from the list and will add one of your characters instead. I'll also consider the characters you posted, but in the moment I got pretty little time because I got much work at the moment and also at home. But I'll do that and will post here again what and why.  Sorry for the moment.

Yes, you're right. I exclude superhero movie's characters, because there would be a ton of suggestions. I think it would be better to separate them to an extra poll (series).

I've limited it to 2 characters per franchise now. I think it's better to concentrate on the strongest, because there are so many unforgettable character performances that none of the real unforgettable impressive ones should be lost.

Thank you Mario for suggesting real good characters. I would open a third list, if there are enough good characters. But some of them you suggested are on the first list yet, like Arnie in Total Recall.

You seem to be asking about characters more than performances. The title would be better and simpler without the word performances:

25 Unforgettable Science Fiction Characters

@Peter_pbn

Thank you, Peter. But it's about performances. It's formerly said to me to put each suggestion on the list, which isn't excluded by definition to discuss about afterwards. That was about two or three years ago. So I've put nearly each performance which was suggested on the two lists to discuss. Which of these performances would you cut? And why?

I've changed the intro's text a little and added performed by in the options to get more clear. Maybe it's better now.

I futher could change the title, if necessary - like:

Unforgettable Science Fiction Performances - Part I

Unforgettable Science Fiction Performances - Part I

I haven't asked you to remove any options.

Yes, that title would also be simpler and more correct.

@Peter_pbn

Yes, you haven't. But I removed some of them. With the edits in the intro, the Trekkies won't fit anymore. There is a new generation of Trekkies, which is fully accepted. But in the end the idea is defined a little better. I must admit that when I had the idea, I didn'work it out completely to have some playground for ideas. I knew it will have to be defined more accurately.

Change: Only 2 characters per franchise for respecting mostly all of the impressive performances.

I've done changes in the list, because with the new text, some SciFi-characters won't fit anymore.
