Live Poll: Gender-Bender Movies

Hello, poll forum, another idea for your consideration, feedback welcome, thank you.

Gender Bender movies are movies where a person dresses, behaves and speaks in a way characteristic of the opposite gender.

This is also called cross-dressing and to get more specific, a man who dresses up as a woman is called a drag queen and a woman who dresses up as a man is called drag king.

Which is your favorite Gender Bender movie?

FYC:

Albert Nobbs

Not sure about Transamerica and Breakfast on Pluto. If the characters consider themselves women, we wouldn't say they are cross-dressing as women, would we?

FYC: Glen or Glenda, the movie featured in Ed Wood and, terrible as it is, probably one of the first films to deal with travestism

Die Päpstin - About a woman pretending to be a man and chosen as a pope.

Sylvia Scarlett - A woman becomes Sylvester Scarlett to protect her father

@mariojacobs,

For your consideration:

Cross-Dressing in Shakespeare Plays

https://www.thoughtco.com/cross-dressing-in-shakespeare-plays-2984940

Cross-dressing in Shakespeare’s plays is a common technique used to progress the plot. We take a look at the best female characters that dress as men: the top three cross-dressers in Shakespeare plays.

1 Portia from 'The Merchant of Venice'

Portia from The Merchant of Venice (2004)

In 16th century Venice, when a merchant must default on a large loan from an abused Jewish moneylender for a friend with romantic ambitions, the bitterly vengeful creditor demands a gruesome payment instead.

2 Rosalind from 'As You Like it'

Rosalind from As You Like It (2006)

A daughter of the powerful Duke must show her courage and inventiveness to be with the man she loves.

3 Viola in 'Twelfth Night'

Viola from Twelfth Night (1996)

Shakespeare's comedy of gender confusion, in which a girl disguises herself as a man to be near the count she adores, only to be pursued by the woman he loves.

The 'Actor' not the Character is a Gender-Bender

Look at some of his/her other Titles

Do NOT look at the movies !! 😜

Divine also starred in the wonderful 'Hairspray,' if you're considering including movies in which the actor is the so-called cross dresser. Of course, John Travolta took Divine's role in the remake.

In 'Hairspray' Divine plays the mom. I think I must agree with @ACT_1 , the actor is a drag queen playing the part of a woman, quite complex situation, I'm not sure it is gender-bender... (the character)

Of those on the list, my vote will probably go to Adventures of Priscilla.

May I suggest one small edit? (In bold below)

Why only The Birdcage without La Cage aux Folles? Does the copy deserve more consideration than the original?
