Merkel

'Die Getriebenen', tv-movie --> It's about Merkel facing the refugee-crisis in 2015.

(The meaning is: The driven, the battued, the forced - I guess there is no proper 1:1 translation for this, but surely can be wrong. Maybe someone has a better wording for it.)

I'm just a little unsure about the Swan Queen, because she had a moment she took control, but she is questionable, because her only commanding sitution was that she forced her director to a strong kiss. Other users might criticize that. The Suffragette is ok, she demanded resistance from the other women. Thats a kind of controlling them. Sorry for the Swan Queen. ;)

It's nice to see Mutti on the list (German nickname for Mama). When she became chancelor I didn't like her politics, but when she mastered the refugee crisis, she gained trust from me. She's no hardliner - that helped much to not let the situation escalate. Now I think we could have had a few worse candidates. Armin Laschet is the new candidate in her party "CDU" for September. But it seems that the environment Party "Die Grünen" will rise. Enough politics. Sorry for that little excursus.

Mmm, I think you can find as many women in command in movies from the last 10 years than all the years since the invention of cinema. It became a Hollywood trope after being the exception that made the rule.

Now, there have been so many polls about women in command, girl-power and all that, maybe it would be interesting to find something to focus on: do you mean women who command men? or women as rulers or leaders?

Ever since the Oscars started, actresses were nominated for playing queens and political leaders so just checking the Wikipedia Page of Best Actress category you might find enough material to make two polls about the subject :)

Or you can check AFI's lists of villains and heroes, and it's interesting to have heroines and female villains in the same lists, but I'm not sure I'd like to be friend with someone who enjoys Annie Wilkes because she's in command lol.

Anyway, this is not exactly a niche poll, so I'm only encouraging you to find new parameters to decrease the number of entries (oscar nomination, Top 250 movies, AFI characters), believe me, the simpler, the better!

Thank you for your feedback. Indeed, Annie Wilkes and other psychos, I inserted as fill-in and a bit of "comic relief" for the list. The rule is: women who give orders.

>the simpler, the better!

I am beginning to realize that myself. Thanks again.

You're welcome... maybe you can focus on women who are the only women in their position, women in a world of men so to speak... Margaret Thatcher, the iron-lady, is almost the trope codifier but the film did nothing to show that position of power since she's portrayed in her later, vulnerable years... haunted by the ghost of her dead husband. Cate Blanchett as Elizabeth (in the first film) is the perfect exemple.
