There are too many German popular achievements to make a poll about it.

For me as a German, the biggest achievement is one, no other language has a benefit for, except Hollywood. The big link between Hollywood and Germany is the tremendously big dubbing industry. We got it all dubbed. Especially older Germans - older than 30 are mostly grown up with dubbed movies. I grew up with it and I don't need authentic lip synchronity. For me it's enough when they do a good job, so it won't make a bad impression with lips moving when there is no tone. We always mourn, when a good and usual voice actor dies. In Germany we mostly always keep the same German voice for the same actor - over decades. That's because we don't like that chanching. We get used to hear exact that voice on that actor. If the voice dubbing industry wasn't, American movies would never have gained that position in Germany from the beginning. With the dubs, the movies reached a way more wide audience in Germany.

@mariojacobs You might want to go through your answer list again. I think more than few options can have better title to represent them in the poll, either a more well-known or better voted option or the title that is considered their masterwork. As example, German Directors
Werner Herzog, German Director
Either a more well-known or better voted option or the title that is considered their masterwork.
Leni Riefenstahl, German Director
The film was released in two parts: Olympia 1. Teil — Fest der Völker (Festival of Nations) (126 minutes) and Olympia 2. Teil — Fest der Schönheit (Festival of Beauty) (100 minutes).
Triumph of the Will (German: Triumph des Willens) is a 1935 German Nazi propaganda film directed, produced, edited and co-written by Leni Riefenstahl.
Fritz Lang, German Director
Plus, Fritz Lang was a German citizen up until 1939, so I think he should be listed. Lang's most celebrated films include the groundbreaking futuristic Metropolis (1927) and the influential M (1931), a film noir precursor.
Wolfgang Petersen, German Director

@mariojacobs I like the idea and think you have gotten off to a great start.
But, I find the answer list a bit jumbled, with too many bench players and not enough heavy hitting German icons listed.
IMHO, I think this poll idea would be better served by doing an all-time version and a modern day popular version (maybe 21st century). It would allow for both the proper recognition, as well as, the inclusion of more modern popular options that don't belong on a all-time list.
I think if you do internet searchs, like "greatest German (fill in the discpline)" or "Most popular German (fill in the discpline)", you will find a ton of great options for your polls. I have listed some possible options, I think should be at the very least be under consideration using four cultural disciplines. Imagine the possibilities, if you did search for every different cultural discipline.
As an example, for Supermodels: Heidi Klum and others.
As an example, for Musicians/Composers: Hans Zimmer, Wagner, Schubert, Strauss, Schumann, Bach and others.
As an example, for Athletes: Dirk Nowitzki, Katrina Witt, Birgit Fischer-Schmidt and others.
As an example, for Actresses: Marlene Dietrich, Martina Gedeck, Diana Kruger, Franka Potente, Nina Hoss, Nazi Baetz, Natassja Kinski and others.
