Oswald, as a Ukrainian: case-to-case scenario but yes, can confirm. Many people born in Soviet Union still have the joint Russian/Soviet identity. The experience of that dying off has proven to be very traumatic and many people don't get why we are now several different countries in the first place. 80 years of equally traumatic ironing of several very different cultures and territories together does that.
