Poll Suggestion: Face-Off: Walk of Fame or Walk of Shame (long term poll-series)

Intro (examplarily):

There is a petition running in Los Angeles about Donald Trump's star at the Walk of Fame in L.A. Approximately 4500 citizens signed that petitition to remove that Hollywood symbol, which caused 18.000 dollars for L.A. to remove damages done to it by vandalism. CBS Los Angeles reported it (newspage) on December 28, 2023. That resulted from the many accusations the former show master, business man and former president of the U.S.A. faced lately.

When you look at him would you rather keep or remove his star?

Please tell us here.

This is a Poll Series for asking audiences how they would decide about celebrities of movie, tv, cinema, music and so on, if there are openly questions about them. I start with Donald Trump, because the petition aming at the cancelation of his star at the Walk of fame is the most prominent issue at the moment. So how qould you decide in this situations, what would be your choice and do you have another case? Please report it here, please do a suggestion, if there is a case that could interest very many people.

List (Donald Trump): https://www.imdb.com/list/ls522210897/

Poll (Donald Trump): TBD

Frankly, they can do whatever they want with the star.  That thing is worthless anyways. Celebrities must pay 75 000$ to have their stars. If you refuse to pay, no stars for you. It has no symbolic value whatsoever. It is a tourist-trap nothing more. The people behind that petition probably do not know how the system works. Otherwise, they would know that their petition will not bring any result. If the organizers are embarrassed by the star, they will ask trump to pay additional fee to keep it, if he does no pay, they will remove it. End of the story.

You named it. It's a tourist trap. That's because so many people in the world like that institution Walk of Stars. It's also about Hollywoods history. As I remember several stars of older actors were stolen in past. That says something about peoples regard on it. So it is surely magnetic in several countries. I speculate about clicks and votes with that suggestion. ;)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_E._Lee

Robert Edward Lee (January 19, 1807 – October 12, 1870)
was a Confederate general during the American Civil War,
toward the end of which he was appointed
the overall commander of the Confederate States Army.
He led the Army of Northern Virginia—
the Confederacy's most powerful army—
from 1862 until its surrender in 1865,
earning a reputation as a skilled tactician.

In Richmond, Virginia,
a large equestrian statue of Lee
by French sculptor Jean Antonin Mercié
was the centerpiece of Monument Avenue,
along with four other statues of Confederates.
This monument to Lee was unveiled on May 29, 1890;
over 100,000 people attended this dedication.
That has been described as
"the day white Virginia stopped admiring Gen. Robert E. Lee
and started worshiping him".
The four other Confederate statues were removed in 2020,
and the equestrian statue of Lee was removed on September 8, 2021,
at the direction of the state government.

A statue of Robert E. Lee was one of the two statues
(the other is George Washington)
representing Virginia in Statuary Hall in the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.

Robert E. Lee, National Statuary Hall, Washington, D.C. Edward Virginius Valentine, sculptor, 1909
It was removed from the Capitol on December 21, 2020,
after a state commission voted to replace it
with a statue of Civil Rights activist Barbara Rose Johns.
Lee is one of the figures depicted in bas-relief
carved into Stone Mountain near Atlanta.
Accompanying him on horseback in the relief are
Stonewall Jackson and Jefferson Davis.

I guess this example is essential in the discussion. Trump is not exactly Robert E. Lee. But Lee's statue was removed. So we see no one is really immune, even historical persons. Thank you for adding.

@Breumaster He doesn't really have achievements as an actor does he? He has only appeared in cameos as himself. Perhaps the description for the "no" option should say show business (The Apprentice and Miss Universe producer) instead of actor.

Maybe actor should be removed from the intro text as well:

(former actor, business man and former president of the U.S.A.)

And please correct:

That resulted from the many accusations Trump faced lately.

#1: This man causes so much trouble that I would rather remove his star

#2: No way. He has his goals as a show master and no matter what he did otherwise ... it shouldn't touch his achievements in show business. That's not a fair style.

Thank you, Jessica. I corrected it and re-arranged the text a little for using lesser brackets. I hope it fits that way.

I also had three abouts in the intro-text, now it's only one.

I've also cut a doubeling "... in L.A. ..." to make it shorter and not so repetitive.

January 6, 2024

On January 6, 2021,
the United States Capitol Building in Washington, D.C.
was attacked by a mob of supporters of then-U.S. president Donald Trump,
two months after his defeat in the 2020 presidential election.

Thank you, ACT_1. I did know that, because America is watched very sensitive by Europe. Many people have a sorrowful view of what happens in the world, since the borders of information seem to vanish by new technologies. But I learned to keep neutrality in my polls, so I didn't mention these happenings, I just vaguely named them without getting to congrete. People can imagine theirselves what is mentioned.

With other words: Even though I don't like him, I try to be fair and neutral in the poll. And I try to get an accurate and fair view on how many people are still sympathizers of Trump. And don't forget - he still is the guy who ran a successful show for a long time.

@Breumaster due to his involvement with the Republican Party and the elections this year, we probably can't publish a Donald Trump poll at this time.

If you intend to do this a long term poll series, maybe you could post the next suggestions you had in mind instead of waiting for this one.

I don't know much about the American law-habbits. So if I have time, I'll change it. My prob at the moment is that my daughter moves from our home town and I simply have lesser time at the moment. At the moment I'm more of a driver than a poll master. ;) Several hundret miles at the weekend and work, too. That's doubeling the ammount of stress. So I certainly have no time at all these days. Sorry for that, guys. :D
