@mariojacobs ,

Please include the number of Oscar nominations for each of the two films.

Also, it's not clear at first that this is the discussion link:

Which is your favorite oscar-less film?

Please de-link the question and include the discussion in in this phrase:

It might be more interesting to include more options. I don't think we have had that poll.

11 The Turning Point (1977)
11 The Color Purple (1985)
10 Gangs of New York (2002)
10 True Grit (2010)
10 American Hustle (2013)
10 The Irishman (2019)
9 The Little Foxes (1941)
9 Peyton Place (1957)

9 The Banshees of Inisherin (2022)
8 Quo Vadis (1951)
8 The Nun's Story (1959)
8 The Sand Pebbles (1966)
8 The Elephant Man (1980)
8 Ragtime (1981)
8 The Remains of the Day (1993)

8 Elvis (2022)

@Peter_pbn

Thank you for your suggestion. Actually I wanted the most Oscar nominations: 11.

These movies had 10, 9 and 8 nominations.

Should I include them?

I think Peter makes a fair point about making this poll a more interesting question to more people. I would add more options to the answer pool. My detailed comments behind the thought process are listed below, if you care.

1) The title as phased is unclear. I thought the poll was going to be about the people who had the Most Oscar Nominations Without Winning. I made that assumption because the title is vague. Poll takers shouldn't have to guess or go somewhere else in your poll suggestion to understand your meaning. I can understand further, explaining the fine details later, but not big ones, like that upfront. Plus, Rick Kline belongs to the 11 Oscar nominations without a win club too.

2) I get that it is a face-off between the two eleven-time Oscar-nominated movies that didn't notch a single win. But, it is a boring face-off and I couldn't care less about any poll that has 'The Turning Point' (1977) as an option, let alone one that is a face-off. It is a far more interesting poll suggestion, with Gangs of New York (2002), True Grit (2010), American Hustle (2013, )The Irishman (2019), Peyton Place (1957), The Banshees of Inisherin (2022), The Sand Pebbles (1966) and Elvis (2022) populating the answer choices.

3) Plus, I am ten times more surprised that 8-time Oscar nominee Elvis didn't take a single trophy home, than I am 11-time Oscar nominee 'The Turning Point' didn't take a single trophy home. I am far more surprised that 'The Color Purple' didn't, but that isn't enough to turn the tide for me on this one.

4) Plus, I would think neither of these films are most people's favorite films. These films weren't even favorites enough with AMPAS voters enough to win a single Oscar, despite 22 tries. So, the question to most, as a face-off is unanswerable, unless you add "I couldn't care less." or "How do I get back two minutes of my time?" as a third option that ring true with poll takers.

5) I don't think 'The Turning Point' is a bad film. But, I do think the fact that it is 6.8 IMDb-rated and an 11-time Oscar nominee says something about the film. I also think it says something that it has less than 5,000 IMDb votes and is an 11-time Oscar nominee, when films of similar pedigree have 100,000 or more votes on the same site.

>1) The title as phased is unclear.

Title changed.

>I couldn't care less about any poll that has 'The Turning Point' (1977)

I agree, Quo Vadis and Elephant Man are much more interesting.

>4)  How do I get back two minutes of my time?" as a third option that ring true with poll takers.

:)))

New movies included.

I don't understand the point you are trying to make in your post?

But, I get the feeling you are begrudgingly making changes to your poll suggestion(????). The five points were observations made "for your consideration". They are one person's point of view and made as suggestions. I meant no offense, but I speak directly and like to illustrate my ideas to make my points. If you think your original version is better, you should go with that. Likewise, if you disagree with any of the suggestions, you shouldn't feel obliged to change a thing.

@urbanemovies the argumentation was good, suggestion accepted, just like the question bolding one.

@mariojacobs  I like how this one came out.

FYC, Oscar is a name, it should always be capitalized. Plus, some perspective might help. It is hard to win an Oscar, but harder not to when you have 145 chances and the random odds are generally 1 in 5 that you will win in each try.

All these movies were nominated eight, nine, ten, or eleven times each for an Academy Award, but not one of them won an Oscar in a hundred and forty-five tries.

Which of these Oscar-less films is your favorite?

Or, which of these films most deserved to win at least one Oscar? - can be a better question in my opinion.

@Dibyayan_Chakravorty Good one, that is a good question to be asking in this case.

The Elephant Man was an excellent flick, bit it is very tough to watch.
