Mario, I like the idea and for the most part the execution. I think you need to use a Mario Andretti solo picture though.

However, I would disagree with the Mario's selected are the one's that are "top of mind" when the name Mario is mentioned. IMHO, there are three to six clear famous/ iconic Mario favorites: Mario (of Mario Bros. video game fame), Mario Puzo (of Godfather fame), Mario Andretti (of F1/Indy Car racing fame) are the top three. The next tier includes Mario Lopez ( of TV fame, ie Saved by Bell & E.T.), Mario Van Pebbles (of film fame, ie Heartbreak Ridge, New Jack City and Baadasssss!) with Mario Dewar Barrett, known mononymously as Mario ( of R&B  fame) on the cusp of the second/third fame tier with his single moniker helping him greatly.

The IMDb StarMeter gives some insight, but misses a few too, since it focuses one fame aspect and is simply one snapshot in time.

@mariojacobs​ Personally, I thought this was close to being ready before, you just needed the right 4-5 Marios. I agree that 80-90% of the vote will skew to the top 5 Marios. That is why I am perplexed you are expanding the poll to include options that are not going to get substantial votes or have no real shot of breaking into the the top three. Plus, you will need to change the title from, Face-Off: Mario vs. Mario now. I don't see a lot of notable Mario depth, as far as name recognition Marios go, so I would think the potential to add Marios is limited too.

IMHO

Personally, I would disagree with delisting the fictional Mario from Mario Bros. video game fame. He is what makes this poll, a timely and relevant suggestion. Plus, you are asking who is people's favorite Mario, then denying them the chance to vote or choose the one they know and love the most.

You can list up to five choices in a face-off Friday poll. The next three choices seem pretty clear to me and not really even debatable to their Mario stature in the public's eye. I see these top four, as not being your or my personal choices, but unequivocable Mario frontrunners in the public view (including Mario of Mario Bros.).

If you feel the need to add a fifth option (and it is not required to add a fifth), I think these two would be the best candidates for that fifth spot. If you disagree, I could see this fifth option, where you could do something different. Plus, it seems senseless to have ten options and not have Mario (of Mario Bros.) as a choice, if the goal is for the poll to be fun.

1 video game character, 1 singer, 1 driver, 1 actor, 1 writer.

I must admit I have never heard of the R&B singer before.

Of course it is nice to get a lot of votes. However, I primarily like to use the IMDb poll feature to promote underdogs, actors/movies that no one has ever heard/viewed before, but that I personally regard as lost (or living) gems. My greatest reward for voting on the daily IMDb polls was to discover some great movies/series/actors/film concepts that I was not aware of their existence. I even made a watch-list for them. Movies/actors already watched/loved by millions do not need more advertising. Again, it is nice to have a popular poll, especially one featured on the home page.

@mariojacobs​ I would agree, but the poll still needs to be more relevant than irrelevant. There is huge difference between a poll that features that one or two hidden gems in it and one that is missing glaring obvious choices.
