Great thanks for that suggeston, Stephen. I am mostly familiar about that franchise which, to be honest, made a decent effort of making an arch-nemesis dynamic between Loveless and West quite interesting, although the movie is a bit lacking.  

As for 1960's "Batman" series - there is a difficult situation with it: Batman proclaimed almost every significant foe of his archenemy at some point, so the poll might be oversaturated. Morevoer, it already has "Gotham" on the list, which is also a version of Batman  mythos (and, in my opinin, a great one).

"So far" is a good choice of words: I am afraid it's getting a bit cluttered and lacks system. ;) 

I thought about "Dexter" (one of my favorite series, btw) a lot: although arguably Dexter's main archenemy is Doakes (who makes a perfect anti-villain to his anti-hero and made an impact which was still there long after his demise and actually was quite important to Dexter's downfall), there are also, indeed, The Trinity Killer and The Ice Truck Killer. Both left some large toll on Dexter's life, so I decided to include all three of them. Hopefully it won't clutter the poll too much (it's really hard not to add a few options for many series and sometimes even characters). :) 

Truth be told, I am not a big fan of Season 4, which seems to be a very unpopular opinion. It oversahdows rather good 3rd and 5th seasons of the series (which for some reason are usually panned) and compared to other main antagonists, despite excellent portrayal by John Lithgow, Trinity seems to be a bit too convenient and overpowered.

I liked Season 4 but I agree that it often overshadows Seasons 3 & 5, which are both excellent. And I also was going to suggest Brian / The Ice Truck Killer, as I think their chemistry is perhaps the best of the three and would probably get my vote for the whole list. I just wasn't sure they would be considered enemies, exactly, but I'm glad you included him. :)

The only reason I said "so far" is because, at the time, there weren't 35 options yet and I didn't want to assume it was finished. I don't think the list is too crowded. You can have up to 35 options and most polls do have that many and it's fine. It's certainly not a requirement to have 35, of course, but polls just cannot have more than 35.

Further update: out of 6 images 5 were declined (including two archenemies from 1990's "The Flash" the only photo of Nicole Wallace and Robert Goren I've found that could have been eligible, Barbas from "Charmed" and Ari Haswari from "NCIS"). Let's consider this a sign and roll with what we already have. :)

As I say in my posts above, I think this poll is quite good but there are some problems with some of the images. Some of the photos don't crop well so some of the characters don't show up in the thumbnail images, which are close to the size of the images when they appear in a poll. In a few other images, characters just don't appear clearly in the smaller sized images. 

When choosing images, try to pick photos in which:
1. the characters are toward the center of the photo (so they don't get cropped out) 
2. the main characters appear close-up enough that they are clearly invisible even in a smaller version of the photo (for example, in the thumbnail images shown on the list)

The following are the images that I don't think show up or crop well, which make it less likely that the poll will go live so I would try to replace these photos:

Will try my best to replace the photographs, but I should say that finding the photographs with two characters being there, let alone thse that demonstrate some animosity/interaction between the two is really hard. 

Edit: Also #3 is one of my personal favorites out of those photographs, to be fair.

Will they, by the way, crop similarly to how it crops when I edit the list, or the system differs? Because if the former, most photos look fine with both actors at least partially there and in most cases actually appearing nicely centered...

@Nikolay,

Images are cropped to a square (1x1) aspect ratio. So what you show is close to how they would look in a poll.

Images are cropped to a 3x2 aspect ratio when a poll is selected to be featured on the IMDb Home Page. This is roughly how the first image in your poll would be cropped if it were featured on the Home Page.


As you can see the cropping would not be very representative of the original image. In general, its difficult to find images for couples that work well. They tend to be placed at opposite sides of the frame.

Dan is the expert on cropping, so the images, as they are now, should work in a poll, just not for the home page, but it might not even be time for a new home page poll. And yes, you are so right about it being difficult to find good images of two characters, especially good images that crop well. 

Depending on when this poll goes live, I might have time tonight to try to find some better photos elsewhere online and upload them to IMDb so you choose from those if you want to, but if Dan thinks they're ok as they are, I'm sure they'll work. :)

@Nikolay,

Sadly, some really good poll suggestions do not go live for lack of suitable images. The images for your poll are probably OK for it to go live. Finding images suitable for the IMDb Home Page may be too challenging.

In some cases I have actually uploaded photographs myself, because there were no available and/or good ones on IMDb. 

Oh, yeah, then you know what I mean, lol. The way I got started contributing images was when I would be creating a poll and I would get stuck because I would come to an option on the list for which IMDb didn't yet have a photo. Fortunately, I find looking for and uploading images to be kind of fun - I guess I'm somewhat of an image nerd, lol.

In most instances I've seen them used, "great chemistry" and "sparks fly" mean a romantic relationship. Is that what you mean? Otherwise, perhaps your title and intro need some adjusting.

While in most cases chemistry presumed is indeed romantic one, that term also applies to any great case of actors being a great combination with "genuine connection".

Would love to hear your thoughts on adjusting the title and/or description anyway.

Jen and Nikolay,

Although the term chemistry generally refers to a romantic relationship between two characters, I believe Nikolay's analogy works well to express rapport between a hero and a villain.
