StarTrek.com is saddened to report the passing of John G. Trimble, who passed away the morning of April 19, 2024, as confirmed by his daughter Lora Boem in a post.

Star Trek and fandom as we know it all stems from the efforts and passion of John and his wife Bjo Trimble, the couple who launched a grassroots letter writing campaign to Save Star Trek following NBC’s cancellation of the Original Series, resulting in a third season. With enough episodes then, Star Trek was able to enter syndication, propelling it into a phenomenon that warranted an animated series in 1973 and big-budget feature in 1979.

I half expected to see a bit where scientist Sheldon Cooper and astronaut Mae C. Jemison appeared on "The Big Bang Theory" and shared their mutual love of all things "Star Trek".

@urbanemovies ,

Sadly, Astronaut Mae C. Jemison did not appear on The Big Bang Theory (2007) or Young Sheldon, even though she appeared on Star Trek: The Next Generation, Second Chances as Lt. Palmer.

... Jemison grew up watching the Apollo airings on TV, but she was often upset that there were no female astronauts. However, Jemison was inspired by African American actress Nichelle Nichols who played Lieutenant Uhura on the Star Trek television show. ...

@dan_dassowI was aware she did not appear. My point is I could see her being a fan of both shows and the character Sheldon Cooper. Plus, I can imagine where a lot different storylines could have been written for her with multiple storylines going already that have a shared interest. (NASA, research science, etc.) Whereas, the show celebrates females in science, is a bit nerdy, has a thing for "Star Trek" it seemed a natural fit. She retired as an astronaut in 1993 and did her bit on TNG soon after when personally asked by LeVar Burton.  I would seem that she only had to be asked, or was she asked and simply declined.

@urbanemovies ,

It would have been great for Astronaut Mae C. Jemison to appear on The Big Bang Theory (2007). I believe that only one astronaut appeared on The Big Bang Theory, Dr. Michael J. Massimino.

@urbanemovies ,

https://bigbangtheory.fandom.com/wiki/Mike_Massimino

In "The Friendship Contraction", Mike Massimino contacts Howard at his home via Skype for a NASA video conference about his upcoming duties as a payload specialist on Expedition 31 to the International Space Station. After Mike reveals his astronaut nickname to be "Mass", which Howard misinterprets as a reference to Newton's second law of motion (as reduced to the familiar Force = Mass x Acceleration), but actually is just his last name. Howard has Raj call him to play his phone ringtone, Sir Elton John's "Rocket Man", and states it is his favorite song in an attempt to convince Massimino to designate him Howard "Rocket Man" Wolowitz; however, when Howard's mother screams to him that his Froot Loop cereal will become soggy, Mike decides Howard's astro-nickname will be "Froot Loops", much to Howard's dismay.
