Live Poll: Sean Connery - the Man

Excluding James Bond, which of the Sean Connery's characters from 1970 to 2000 is your favorite?

(No animated or voice-over-roles! Only movies with Sean Connery playing the main character and being the first named in the credits.)

Breumaster,

I recommend that you change your question from:
What of the first Sean Connery's characters from 1970 to 2000 except James Bond is your favorite?

To:
Excluding James Bond, which of the Sean Connery's characters from 1970 to 2000 is your favorite?

- - -

My favorite film from your list is The Name of the Rose (1986).

Zardoz (1974) is a truly awful film. However, it has one saving grace, it uses the second movement of Beethoven's 7th Symphony as the sound track. Prior to seeing this film, I had not heard Beethoven's 7th Symphony. The 2nd movement from Beethoven's 7th Symphony became one of my favorite symphonic movements.

So even trash can educate. ;) The second movement is used in some better movies, too. ... Like 'Knowing' (when the world starts to burn scene) and 'The King's Speech' (At the King's Speech scene). And surely in a dozend other scenes in other movies. It's nearly as often used as the ode to joy from Beethoven or the most overused first part of Vivaldi's 'Four Seasons'.

There are many such great melodies coming easily around the world like 'Viens, Mallika, ... Dôme épais' from Delibes 'Lakme'. Angelina Jolie danced ballet on the ropes to it in 'Tomb Raider'. Classical music is more powerful than many people think. It induces feelings, that mostly everybody shares - at last empathic people. ;)

Beethoven is one of he most famous genius ever lived. He tried to study from Mozart, but Mozart died to soon. :( So we have 9 beautiful Symphonys from Beethoven - and one unfinished ... that really is hard to get on the market. ;)

'Zardoz' is unquestionably trash ! ;)
Trash - but cult in another way. We never forgot this lousy movie, opposite to many other trashy movies. ;) I guess Sean Connery is the reason why. ;)

That "first name in the credits" rule makes me sad because, you know, Connery was extra awesome in Highlander (1986)

I made that up, because I wanted The pure Sean Connery in his main Characters. The Problem is, that he played so many characters in this blossoming time, that would crack the 35 titles-rule. But I can add an extra rule for exceptions.

If I should mention your suggestion - what's your username on IMDb?

What about The Untouchables (1987) where Scotsman Sean adopts a very dodgy Irish accent?

I wrote an 'suggest by'-note in the list. If that should be your username, I have to know that and the url of your profile, so I can link it.

Thank you, Steve. I linked your Profile in the Poll Suggestion.  But I don't know, if it is allowed to advertise other websites on IMDb. So maybe  Dan or someone of the Crew can take position to this. I've seen your profile. You seem to be a professional in Filmbusiness, maybe they allow to link your page. I can't because I'm just another user/guest. ;)

Thank you for contributing.

Extra-Rule for the Poll-Suggestion to make some exceptions:

One Exception: Everybody associates the movie mostly with Sean Connery.
So Main Characters first named are on first and other suggestions are on the second.

I guess, this is a fair deal. :D

hey breumaster...not sure if i'm understanding all you're talking about, but...

often sean's name will appear first simply because he is the bigger star in the picture, where a movie like 'the presidio' really features mark harmon as the main character, so...

don't know if that confuses things or helps, but anyway...

In which movies did you detect this despite 'The Presidio'? :)

Hi, rocky-o.

I guess, I've seen Presidio, when I was young, but I don't remember this movie today proper today. Has had a second main character or more like a supporting actor. Sometimes, there are two leads. What would you suggest to do?

Since your poll is about characters, please include the names in the description of each option.

Typo:
Excluding James Bond, which of Sean Connery's characters from 1970 to 2000 is your favorite?
