Live Poll: Not a Disney Princess

Eleven of the most popular female characters in Disney animated movies are part of the media franchise Disney Princess.

However not all female lead characters from the films of the company are part of this line.

Some of them are not popular enough despite being actual princesses, some of them have nothing to do with royalty, and some of them are excluded because they are not humans.

From these Disney female lead characters not included in the Disney Princess line, which is your favourite?

I think the line up is complete. There are no characters from Bambi, Pinocchio, Sword in the Stone, Planes, Meet the Robinsons, Dinosaurs, Dumbo or The Lion King considering they are not leads.

Also I left out Disney coproductions with other companies including Pixar before it was bought.

Do you think someone is missing?

"There are no characters from Bambi, Pinocchio, Sword in the Stone, Planes, Meet the Robinsons, Dinosaurs, Dumbo or The Lion King considering they are not leads."

Not exactly true.:
*Bambi is a romance film and the female lead is Faline, Bambi's love interest and later mate. The film ends with Faline giving birth to twin fawns, who look like their dad. No surprise there as Bambi is based on the novel "Bambi, a Life in the Woods" (1923) by Felix Salten and Faline is the female lead of the novel.
*Dinosaur (2000) is also a romance story.  Aladar (the male lead) spend much of the film courting Neera (the female lead), despite the fact that Kron (Neera's brother and the film's main antagonist) strongly dislikes him.
*The Lion King has a female lead. Nala, Simba's childhood best friend and later wife. She also gets much of the screentime, and the song "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" is devoted to Simba and Nala's first night as a couple. (Though the idea that you meet your best friend years later, and you immediately try to bed her was probably not the film's brightest moment.)

How is Moana not a princess, isn't she the Chief's daughter?

ElM,

This is Disney's Official List of Disney Princesses:
https://princess.disney.com/
Belle
Rapunzel
Ariel
Tiana
Snow White
Cinderella
Aurora
Merida
Pocahontas
Jasmine
Mulan

The list has evolved over the years. I would not be surprised if Disney eventually adds Moana to the official list in the future.

Star Wars fans have lobbied Disney to make Princess Leia.

Indeed, the Disney Princess line is a marketing group with the most famous characters.
The Black Cauldron and Atlantis female characters are also princesses, but they are also on my poll because they do not belong to the marketing group.

Should I include an external link to make this clearer?

Pencho15,

I believe what you wrote in your poll is well written, clear and sufficient; I believe an external link is not necessary.

That's strange if they don't consider Moana a princess, is it an age issue (Disney princess=romance) or as you said, a matter of time before she's included.

I don't consider SW as part of Disney's canon so making Leia a Disney Princess wouldn't make sense at all for both Disney or SW fans.

I never understood why they depict Mulan as a princess. She is not royalty, her family is neither royal nor noble, and her love interest is a young military officer who is not royalty either. The (unnamed) Chinese emperor of the film is a weak old man, whose main role is playing the dude-in-distress.

Pencho15,

Daisy Duck appears as Noah's Wife in Fantasia 2000.

Here is an image of Daisy Duck with Donald Duck as Noah.

Are you limiting your poll to female lead characters in Disney feature films? If not, Minnie Mouse is one of Disney's first lead female characters that is not considered a Disney princess.

It appears that you are limiting your poll to animated characters. If so, you may wish to amend your excellent intro and question to state that criteria.

As Jessica points out above, please include the discussion link in your list.

Not sure I would consider Daisy because it's just one segment of Fantasia and not the most memorable one.

That was was I felt with both Fantasia and Fantasia 2000, while there are female characters, they are movies made of unrelated episodes and none of them could be considered a lead character.

For that reason I left out others like Flower from Bambi or the female plane from Planes, they are the most important women role in the film, but cannot be considered leads.

My original idea was to also include tv where there are some princesses like Elena of Avalor and I'm sure many more if I started to investigate, but I later decided to limit things to feature animated films, so that also leaves out characters like Minnie.

Also I edited as you suggested.

What? Noah is a minor character in Fantasia 2000, depicted as Donald and Daisy's employer. They are both working on his ark during the cataclysm. The drama of this segment, is that they do not encounter each other during the voyage, and each mistakingly believes that their loved one has drowned.

I considered having Pixar characters, but I believe those that were created before Disney bought the company shouldn't be there. Do you feel diferently?

I'm also torn between Vanellope and other character, but in my case it is Wendy.

I voted for Alice in part because I had a great aunt Alice for whom I had great affection when she was alive.

Hey, great poll!  But I thought you should know that there's a mistake with the Tinker Bell option.  It's a pic of Fawn from the movies, not Tink.  Here's the correct image if you want to fix and re-push: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1216515/mediaviewer/rm890101504?context=default&ref_=tt_pv_md_3
