I can't get over how many pairs there have been and this combo isn't the oldest, both Laurel & Hardy and Chaplin did their own "buddy" chimp movies prior to Tarzan. Still, a great choice and often thought as the benmark for all other pairs.

I chose John Clayton / Tarzan, Lord of the Apes & Cheetah (1932 edition) precisely because I consider it the benchmark for all other performances including both humans and other primates.

Given the large number of such performances, it might be a good idea to split this poll into two or more time periods. Please notice, I said might not should.

There have been a number of short films that have exclusively use non-human primates. These are two examples:

Monkey-ed Movies - Wikipedia
Monkey-ed Movies is a series of short films broadcast on the Turner Broadcasting System in the late 1990s. The films parodied popular films or television programs that were currently being broadcast on TBS with the use of costumed chimpanzees and orangutans voiced by human actors.

The Chimp Channel - Wikipedia
In 1998, TBS aired Tom Stern's Monkey-ed Movies. Forty-eight of the short segments were produced to run during the feature-film program Dinner and a Movie and in odd time slots after sporting events.

While the number of movies with mixed pairs probably numbers in the hundreds, I think the scope is fine. Separate polls could still be done for TV mixed pairs, for all monkey only casts movie and TV pairs, monkey parodies and other combinations. I think a retro version also is still possible, while there are some listed older options, they don't dominate the list. I think the list is well-represented from different periods and types or movies and highlights the top options.

The Kong (3), Tarzan (3) and Planet of Apes (5) movies are represented with multiple pairs without duplicating the same pair. Same pairs that appear in different movies have been noted (I will add a note to Tarzan series). While the cited movies are intended to note the movies they are best remembered for, they are not intended to be all-inclusive. I think I got the most popular major pairs from these franchises, while still omitting some decent pairs, that wouldn't have made the top three even in their own franchises. Also, there a couple of other pairs I wanted to include but were eventually pushed out due to space considerations by falling into into the 35 to 50 range of choices (see honorable mentions). Realistically, they would be fringe voting choices. In the end, I think ended with a strong list of thirty-five candidates that represent the top contenders from features, animation, comedies, documentaries.

I do share your concern though as I have removed about ten pairs already from the poll list because I discovered more notable pairs I omitted initially. So, I wonder what other notable pairs have I overlooked. I have gone through about a half-dozen compiled lists, so I think I have them all, but I still wonder what pairs I might have missed.

Woody Harrelson, Ty Olsson
War for the Planet of the Apes

Without looking at your list, the original and the Disney remake of “Mighty Joe Young”.

I was very impressed when I saw the original and equally impressed the remake was equally moving. I always preferred the the Mighty Joe Youngs over the King Kong movies too. I gave the option a prime spot in #1 slot, as I think it needs to be highlighted, both are very under-appreciated and under-seen films.

a candidate for honorable mention: “B. J. and the Bear”.

Primate duos were limited to feature movies and documentaries only, unless  it was rebooted into a notable feature later.  I have the pilot movie "The Founding" (1:40 minute running time) from B. J. and the Bear on IMDb (Pilot)

Honorable Mention (Pilot Movie)

B. J.McCay & Bear

One slight correction. That is Paul Mantee, not Adam West in “Robinson Crusoe On Mars”. Adam West was in the film but his character dies in the crash that is in the first few scenes in the beginning of the film.

Aladdin & Abu

Thanks for the vote. I can see Aladdin & Abu contending, as I don't perceive a clear favorite and an open race. I think the animated pairs have a special place in most people's hearts that might give them an edge.

I'm about no "jungle Book" (1964, Disney) in this poll.
I would hang aroung with King Loui and Balou.
Swingin' around in jazzy rhythms. ;D
Instead I voted for Colonel George Taylor
and Zira ! :D
