I can only take it from my life-reality. In my community it's mostly used for uncombed hair, but also for hair that stands up in a wild style or for hair that simply is in a mess.
Someday a coleague asked me if it's angy hair day, today. I turned around and asked him: What? - He told me with a smile, that I forgot to comb, there was a lock standing up strongly.
It's just a funny word to tell sombody she/he forgot to comb.  Dan, your explanation is also very good! ;) To keep it short - unkempt, neglected or standing up wild.

I suspect that "angry hair" is an idiom in the German language that does not readily translate to other languages. I am not suggesting that you change the title of your poll suggestion since it the current title is very visual.

In English we frequently refer to bad hair days and bed head. We also have the phrase, "I just washed my hair and I can't do a thing with it."

It is, Dan. I think the words "angry" & hair" are so clearly describing standing up hair or even agressiv hair looks, that I think it fits for the title. I would have taken the words you refer to, but the title would suck. "Angry Hair Day" reads fresh and provoking. It's more illustrative, more graphic. That's why I've put Uma Thurman as Medusa on first place. Doesn't her hair look angry? ;D
