Live Poll: 1940 Best Actress Nominees

https://www.imdb.com/list/ls4115767122/?ref_=uspf_t_3

Many film critics consider 1939 to be the greatest year in the history of cinema. Which performance nominated for a Best Actress Oscar that year is your favorite?

1939 IS EASILY the greatest year in film, followed by 1957.

If this one is selected, I'm pretty sure that Vivien Leigh will dominate that voting as:

She did win the Academy Award

It is the only film that most modern voters have ever heard of (but probably not seen)

That said, I really think that Judy Garland's performance in The Wizard of Oz, though not nominated, was the best of the year.  Judy got a special Academy Juvenile Award for the role that was a miniature of the Oscar statue.  Her age kept her from being nominated for the real award, but her performance was recognized.

@TheOldJalapenoman ,

I prefer Bette Davis in Dark Victory and Greer Garson in Goodbye, Mr. Chips over Vivien Leigh.

@dan_dassow   I ended up voting for Greer myself.  I have always found Scarlet O'Hara to be an intensely dislikable character even though she is generally loved as a heroine.  My sister's home is decorated with a hugh Tara theme and she even had to name some of her daughters after characters from that film.
