Name Pages: Add age to name pages

Please bring back the age next to the birthdate!! Instead of making the app match the site, why not make the site match the app? I don’t like having to do math to figure out an actor’s age when the app can just tell me with a quick glance. And it’s a feature I actually use (or did use, before it was removed) A LOT.

Thanks for reaching out! At this time (as you note), we’ve removed ages for living persons from Name pages in order to unify our experience across web and apps. If we make any changes, I'll be sure to follow up with you directly on this thread.

I don’t get it. Why can’t you just add age to all platforms then??? My mom uses your site to see ages when we watch movies. Since you are REDUCING features and going back in time, guess we’ll switch to Wikipedia.....

Weird. I just noticed this and it’s like the most antiquated move for developers to take. So odd.

Like the title there is no age displayed like before. I know without it you can calculate yourself but it's easier when you see it immediately.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled What happened to actors ages, and death dates, on the iOS app?.

I currently can only see their date of birth, with no age next to it, or date of death under it. It’s not a huge deal, I’m just wondering why it’s gone, because it doesn’t seem like a feature that would be removed? (It’s happening with everyone, by the way, not just Justin Bieber.)

That’s the Birthday. I’m referring to the numbered age, like being 50 Years Old, and what not. I know that I could just figure it out for myself, but I know that it used to show it, so I’m curious why it doesn’t now!

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled CURRENT AGE of actors/filmmakers is Missing :-(.

Hello. First of all, i have to say that l'm a huge fan of IMDb site. I really appreciate such huge database. It's clearly the best website about movies in the world! (of course for those who can read in english).
I am from Poland. I can proudly say that we have Polish biggest movie site called Filmweb (http://www.filmweb.pl/) not that powerfull as IMDb but it is in the top 10 worldwide.

And the only thing that annoys me, is that filmweb has the current age of an artist (next to he's date of birth) and IMDb Doesn't.

examples:
Mel gibson (http://www.filmweb.pl/person/Mel.Gibson)
Jason Statham (http://www.filmweb.pl/person/Jason.Statham)

There must be some easy was to add function that would compare date of birth to current date and show age of a person

I'm begging You, can anyone do something about this issue?

Best regards
Dragan V.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Name Pages: Add "AGE" to each person on the IMDb page.

Hi

Please add the AGE of each person im searching so i dont have to calculate it.
Example with Gary Oldman: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000198/?ref_=tt_ov_st
It says he is born in 1958 but it would be great to have his current age at the time i search.

Thanks

IMDB Only provides the date of birth of the actor. you have to calculate their age yourself. It would be nice if you could calculate their birthday and display the real age, like wikipedia does.

Even though IMDb is not stating this, I am guessing that removing the ages from both the website and app is related to legislation passed by the state of California in 2016:

https://www.theguardian.com/film/2016...

The law was declared unconstitutional in February, but it sounds like that is being appealed:

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/thr...

However, IMDb might have decided that it's safer to just not show anyone's age.

Great links, thanks.

Information like this is either factually true or false. Removing it from every online site out there in a free society is not only ludicrous, but clearly unconstitutional in the US.

Even worse, it's completely and utterly pointless, as if you have the DOB, you can work out age (even just to the nearest year) within seconds in your head anyway.

Should we remove DOB's as well... perhaps next we can remove gender, then pictures in case someone's race is revealed (like we'd not know anyway, given it's not called the "motion picture" industry for nothing, lol!). Where does censorship of such basic human characteristics end.

Only in America, would an employment union back such a ridiculous methodology believing that removing one's age from a website would be the best way to fight ageism. NO, to fight ageism, you change people's thoughts about age through education and better casting procedures.

Furthermore, in an industry that relies on the actors to sell the film, I'm afraid age & beauty are features that help sell films. Like it or not, humans are programmed (either through media or society) to appreciate conventionally 'good looking' people. That may not be right morally, but the film industry is a business, and it sits within society that values these things, so clearly they'd be shooting themselves in the foot to go completely against this.
This doesn't mean the status quo should remain, but slowly and surely, the industry should open-up to more realistic portrayals across races/ages/gender. This does not aid that, as it's fighting the symptoms not the cause.
