Takes longer to scroll through and is extremely unpleasant to use and look at. I never watch the trailer on imdb, so I don't like it so big. I only look at the rating, synopsis and trivia - that's it. But now the trailer, pictures, cast and "more like this" have been bloated up so it's very inconvenient to scroll past them. How does "more like this" section having bigger pictures make it faster and easier to use? It was fine before, now it's like an seniors' mobile phone with extremely large buttons. Website feels dumbed down, like a kids' cartoon home page. I wish there was an option to change back to the old interface, otherwise I'm just going to use the website a lot less and get the info I need from Wikipedia.

I assume the goal was to make it slower to use so that people would spend more time on the website?

I thought at first sight also it looks like a seniors mobile application. This is a trend and yes imo it is dumbing down sites & software. Windows XP was user friendly, functional and simple, you needed a bit of knowledge yes but with plug & play everybody could use it. Then MS continually dumbed the UI down so that every idiot could use it, huge icons, and blew up the OS at the same time, forced updates and interactions, it comes with all that baggage (nobody asks me if I want all that crap), a ton of processes running who use up almost half of your CPU.

As others have said the new layout takes up too much space and involves a lot more scrolling and clicking of links to find relevant information.

Fonts are too big as are photos and videos.

This just isn't going to be a case of getting used to something new, it really is harder to find what you want. Would really prefer going back to the original, more compact design if we could.

My fear is that this new method for listing cast will be implemented on the /fullcredits page.

I, too, dislike all the extra white space on the title page, and the double columns for cast, but adopted it months ago for the increased utility of adding the title to lists. (I would frequently switch back for other things.) And I complained about these things immediately when the trial version of the new title page was made available.

Now I tend to click away from the title page fairly quickly to find other things I want, like who played character x, or what's the name of the character played by y.

If all sub-pages of a title (and perhaps the name pages too) are going to be implemented in the same fashion as the Home Page and the Title Page, then the IMDb site really could become unusable.

I'm worried that the quick links menu will be removed and substituted with the absurd "all topics" widget, in addition to the layout of cast listings.

Doesn't Windows have an app for people that are visually challenged?

Really hate this design. Miss the compactness and ease of use of the previous one. Every once in a while it still opens to the old design and I'm always so relieved. I agree with some of the others -- it would have been nice to have a choice.

At the suggestion in some of the comments, I did check out TMDb. Needless to say it misses a lot of the more obscure items and lacks a few of the features (though maybe some of the addons add additional functionality), but it is SO pleasant to look at and work with. Unless IMDb responds to our negative comments, I see myself now splitting my time between the two sites, with a deference to TMDb.

In looking over the other comments, I've yet to find one that compliments the change. That's a pretty strong message in my book, IMDb.

Didn't think it was possible but you just made the site look even uglier. Good job mate.

Another feature literally no one asked for.

What about the new genres?

@Dreamian

What about the new genres?

Please see https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/data-issues-policy-discussions/why-does-robert-minkoffs-filmography-consist-of-playing-the-same-uncredited-character-of-bit-in-everything/6067ab0fe9d6176949861ef7?commentId=6068203b439e980adff75a91&replyId=60682936439e980adff75b36

Specifically:

For example, the new IMDb title pages which are currently in beta are based on a new technology platform which eliminates the need for a separate mobile site and has components already being used by our mobile apps, and with a much cleaner API.  We are heading back to a world in which a new genre is one config change (and a few language translations).

Hope this helps.

More and more people will log off, this has become ridiculous now. Imagine completely ignoring the people that actually build the site.

Amen!  (I can't seem to find the thumbs-up icon for the replies).  IMDb will become synonymous with smh.

@Col_Needham "afraid of change" is way overused and is a cop out when companies/people want to force a change and don't care about the opinions of those affected. Sure it exists, and is often correct. But change, as you know is not always good. It's the change that is the problem, not change itself.

Updating technology? Ok, keeping up is good. Just not in the way it was done here. I don't need to replay everyone else's responses, but it's the design and uselessness of the new site that's the bad part of the change, not change itself.

Well, one thing for sure, though, Col Needham has more or less accurately predicted that people will eventually stop complaining about this redesign. For instance, I don't see anybody creating new posts to criticize or condemn the homepage redesign from several months ago. In other words, people got over it or simply stopped visiting the homepage. The same thing will happen here. I should hope that this is obvious to everybody.

Okay, I'm getting ready to block all notifications from this site.  But not just yet, because I like reading how people don't like the new design.  The singular reason I signed into here is to give feedback about the terrible new design... and that's it.

However, your posts are downright weird and code-like (not many people gonna click those links!)  How can I block you, and you alone?  I click your name and the only option I see is "follow", whereas I need an "anti-follow" or "release-the-dogs" button.

Was I mean right there.  Sorry.  Don't really mean to be.  Just that nobody is here for a history lesson.  This design change might actually be a minor footnote in Internet history:  The Biggest Website Flops.  Kinda reminds me of Google+

Well, I also had to create an account and take the time to say this, the new design is HORRIBLE!
Why has been said many times already.

I really liked the old version to find what I'm looking for, so naturally in comparison to the old one I HATE the new design and don't really want to use it.
Which is quite a shame, I'm a IMDb member since 2007 and it's one of the few sites I visited multiple times a day, from my PC.
Since they forced the dreadful update on me a few days ago I didn't visit any title pages, I just can't stand it!

It started, when they changed the home page to the awful, just designed for smartphones, look.
Couldn't use it anymore, so I just visited the title pages.
But now the title pages are also screwed up, so the whole page is unusable for me and obviously many other members!

Regarding the actual longtime users, nobody wanted this and nobody needed this!
What a great way to ruin a once awesome website and one of my favourites!

Please add an option to use the old design on proper screens!

THIS is NOT the way!

Does anyone know what's been going on with the lay-out/background colour sceme over the last 24 hours or so? I can't find any information about it or on how to change it. My main window used to be white with black lettering and beige spaces on the sides. Then yesterday the beige changed to some weird coloured nature print and today to black. But now when I search for something (and I need to use it for work a lot) the main view changes to a black with white lettering, which is a real nightmare to read. Then when searching for the next thing, it changes back to white with black lettering, and back to inversed... and so on. Do others experience this problem as well? And where do we find the settings to change it, please? Thank you!

The lay-out seems to differ per title. For example, this one is black with white lettering https://www.imdb.com/title/tt11041132/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0. while this one is white with black lettering https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4239726/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1. Why? Do others see this too? I never experienced these differences before and also like to have the beige sides back instead of black, it makes it all too dark. When I go to the screen with "my activity" or to a list, the beige sides are still there.

This version really sucks.  You have to squint to find  the film date and alternative/original title.   What was so bad about having both of those the same font size as the original title?

mhm... the film date not being listed under 'more like this' ....forcing me to open them is annoying the s*** out of me.
also... on so many actor's pages: biography-text overlays their distorted profile pics. so much to improvement. maybe they're trying to bring back 90's graphics?

Remember:

if it ain't broke, don't fix it

  • phrase
Leave something alone; avoid attempting to correct, fix, or improve what is already sufficient. (Often with an implication that the attempted improvement is risky and might backfire.)

The new version is much detested and for all the right reasons mentioned by all commenters.  If the old version is no longer an option, I will start using Tmdb and avoid IMDb at all cost.
