IMDb.com home page

What did you do to the home page? It' horrific. It looks like a throwback to the days of Tripod and Angelfire web hosting. If the look you were going for was "Completely Unprofessional," well, you nailed it.

It's nothing but IMDb patting itself on the back. They are not listening to our criticisms! Not once has anyone at IMDb addressed our issues with the homepage, rather pointing us to a page where they toot their own horn! Shameful.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Terrible Netflix-Like New Homepage Design.

What a huge and underwhelming update to the homepage that gets rid of the perfect "database" look and instead brings in this enlarged Netflix-like homepage. On my web browser, it looks like I zoomed in by 300%. The all-black concept was fine in the previous version because there were so many panels of text and photos and everything everywhere that it only filled in gaps. Now, it's like staring into a black hole because there's so much useless space in between each panel. As an example for unnecessary gigantic panels is the Coming Soon to Theaters section that was perfect as a side panel on the right side because it wasn't entirely important, but now it takes up the entire screen. Also, there's no longer a news section on the homepage, which I think is an unnecessary removal.

An information website such as this that also features videos and content shouldn't be made into Netflix look-a-like. It's like if you rearranged a library to have only five books on the front desk and told every person that walks in, "Oh, no. What you're looking for is all the way in the back."

I know this is going to fall on deaf ears because of the amount of money that was spent on designers making this new setup, so it's not like it's going to change, but it needs to be said how bad this looks. Might as well change the name to the Movie Website instead of the Internet Movie Database.

I couldn't have said it better! IMDb is telling veteran users that they don't care about their opinions. They want to attract a "younger" audience and sacrifice us in the process.

If I could press 'like' to your comment a thousand times, I would. You wrote exactly what's in my mind. Good to see there are people with taste and brain.

I think IMDb is trying to appeal to people who don't use IMDb. Which is obviously a brilliant strategy.  Certainly has never backfired for any other website.

I notice when I signed onto IMBd today that the home page is messed up!  I don't see the headlines of the lastest news items, and the format is much more difficult to use (not user friendly).  HOW DO I RESTORE THE PREVIOUS HOMEPAGE?  Thank you!!

Yes, I have been waiting for a week for someone to fix it.  It is black till you scroll down a ways. I checked it in Foxfire and it was the same as chrome. So what  is up??  It looks like a newby did it.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled What did you guys do with the homepage?.

It is AWFUL, TERRIBLE, DISGUSTING, HORRENDOUS, etc.
The only thing that used to interest me on the homepage was the movie news. Where is the movie news now? Why do you always change for worse? Why?

It looks like it was designed by a teen with ADD and offers nothing for me except extreme sadness

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Multiple issues with recent IMDB design updates.

Dear IMDB stuff, I am experiencing multiple issues with recent site-design updates you've implimented over the course of last two months.
These issues seriously affect the experience of using IMDB in a very negative way. Apart from one post in the past, I have been mostly silent on this forum, but since I only see things go from bad to worse, with next to nothing getting fixed, I ask for some kind of feedback or an official reply.

1. VIDEO PLAYBACK

In the last video playback update you've changed the videoplayer design, and now it's on mute by default and there is no X to close the player.
There have been multiple posts by other users here on this forum addressing the issue, but now I can't fing them and see if you've responded.
If this is not obvious enough, I have to repeat again, echoing the same complaints that were written previously by those users two weeks ago.
It's very frustrating to manually click the sound button on EVERY video to hear something, and it's very frustrating not to have any other option aside from browser's "back" button to just close the player.

2. TABLET VERSION MISSING FEATURES

In this forum post (https://getsatisfaction.com/imdb/topics/introducing-new-navigation-on-the-imdb-website?topic-reply-l...), to which I unfortunately got no reply, I throughly described the missing features and the 404 bugs. Now, almost two months later, nothing changed aside from the fact that instead of getting 404 errors, I am now simply redirected to m.imdb version of the website when there is a fully working version of "Coming Soon" section, which I still have to access only through the "Site-Map" feature when using my tablet because the menu shortcut does not take me there.

3. BLACK BACKGROUND

And finally, your most recent update, which became the catalyst for this post.
Dear IMDB, it is very frustrating to see the team busy on implimenting new looks, when thanks to your previous updates I can't normally watch videos for two weeks and access certain sections of the website from my tablet for two months now.
And now I'm REALLY horrified if the whole site in due time (since you've already blackened the menus and now the homepage too) will be in white letters on the black background. Again, many users (incl. me) have complained here on this forum that it's very hard for people with poor eyesight to read through.
If you absolutely need to have everything in black, please in the name of all higher powers, make a simple white old-style version available, like the YouTube does for example. It's not that hard, it's only a matter of changing the color palette.
In my opinion, IMDB is not the place for spending a spare ten minutes, watching recent trailers. It is a first and foremost a place to read through all kinds of film information, and if you impliment the black background on all sections - further reading for ME will be next to impossible. I will have to abandon using this site and this will seriously break my heart.

All design decisions you've made recently seem to encourage the general public to watch a trailer or two from their iPhone on the new hip black homepage, and discourage film buffs who use desktop computers from reading and contributing anything, because general public does not like to read these days and need to have every button twice the size it was before, no matter how ridicously big it looks on the wide screen. And no matter that you have a fully working mobile version and an app too, by the way - the new homepage still needs to be this BIG for all users, even the ones visiting the site from their laptops or PCs, spoiling their experience in favor of phone users.
I would love to be wrong on that one, but that's how it seems to ME on the subject of where IMDB is heading now.
I have been a happy user for many years now and I genuinely want to continue using this wonderful website, but the aforementioned issues (and the aforementioned worries that it may get even worse) create tiresome obstractions and lots of negative feelings.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled New design - watchlist sneak peek at hovering is gone.

In the new design, if you want to quickly check your last seen content you have to go to your watchlist page and then order it by added date. Before you could just hover over the Watchlist in any page and you could see your latest 3 watched content. Please bring that back, it's very handful and saves time. Thank you

I agree, new homepage is awful. I come here for a quick info and a bit of news that are shown on the front page and not for the Netflix like looks, showing me things I don't care about, forcing me to scroll down so much more.

If you guys are actually doing some kind of AB testing, then let us know where we can submit feedback, I can understand the need for re-design, but this is too much, you are info site, not interactive site.

The new homepage design is terrible. You don't see any information when you land on the page. It forces you to scroll so much just to find things.
