Minari was not a candidate for International Feature because it is an American production.

I'm not sure if it should be included since it wasn't in the Documentary short list, but I'll mention it in #22. Alongside the rest of the Documentaries.

I was certainly expecting it to do better, at least due to the fact that it was one of the very few big releases of the year that voters had the chance to watch.

It is a well-known fact that the Academy doesn't like Nolan. So, I'm not surprised. 

Plus, the Academy has always seemed to have something against science fiction movies, but at least several of them have been nominated in the past, and Shape of Water was a rare case of one winning an award. I don't blame Russell Crowe for his attitude toward the Oscars. Even more so I applaud what the long-gone Marlon Brando did way back in the day in that regard. The people who have been running that show and who will continue to run it are chronically Hollywood-centric.
