Live Poll: Musicals of the 1970s - Flowers and Establishment

Intro:

The 1970s - Time of global political change. Time of free love, Blaxploitation, love, peace, and understand. But also conservative streamings of the establishment took place in the musical movie landscape. Musicals are an artful mirror of time.

So when you look back in time, which musical of the 70s is your favorite? If you are too young to remember, please vote for the one which seems to be the most interesting to you.

Chant your song here.

Suggestions:

Popular musicals released from 01/01/1970 to 12/31/1979. All kinds of streams; from hippie- to stoneage conservative productions. They should be known to a wide audience, so I set the "wanted popularity" to 5.000 ratings+. I know I got two musicals on the list that are under that border, so for ratings below 5.000+ I make amens if it is a real good candidate. So musicals with ratings under 5.000+ ratings are discussable. Vice Versa: If there are reasons why my lower rated candidates shouldn't be on the list, it's debateable, too. It's about diversity, so the suggestions shouldn't come from only one end of the society. The idea is too create a musical mirror of the whole society in the 1970s with that poll. Where everyone can find a little bit of her- or himself. Animated ok.

Grease.

Correction:

"peace, and understanding"

"conservative streamings" – perhaps "conservative currents" or "movements"

FYC: Tommy and Quadrophenia

and if you're going to include Car Wash, you may want to consider Cooley High

In the name of diversity: Yes! I guess I got to lower the barriers. There are many iconic musicals below 10.000 ratings. I lower it to 5.000+ and do an amen for Cooley high. I'll put Quadrophenia on the list. Thank you for suggesting.

It turned out that many musicals have ratings below 10.000+ so I lower the wanted ratings in general to 5.000+. I stil do amens for diversity and style icons.

What a shame, my favorite is Xanadu, 1980!

Mario, maybe you want to do a suggestion with musicals of the 1980s? There will surely be suggestions. And you can take Xanadu on the list.

Thank you, but you have the prerogative – Vorrecht!

I think you should do Part II...

Yes I have, but I would leave it to you. But if you don't want to, I'll do - perhaps. I just want to see, if this part is successful. If not, I'll skip the idea.

It will surely be a success. I would do part II anyway, if I were you, to "copyright" the idea...

Breumaster,

If I were a rich man, I would choose:

Fiddler on the Roof (1971)

Even though I am not a rich man, I still choose:

Fiddler on the Roof (1971)

Hi, Dan 'Fiddler on the Roof' is already on the list. Together with 'Hair' it was the first on the list, because when it comes to musicals and classical music, you're first in this forum who comes to my mind. I knew you formerly suggested it in another poll suggestion. Meanwhile I saw it and I like it, too.

Breumaster,

To clarify: Fiddler on the Roof (1971) is my vote. I know that it is on your list and would have been surprised if it were not.

Topol did a great job as the lead character, Tevye, in the film. Zero Mostel originated the role on Broadway. I wish I could have seen Mostel's performance on stage.

Same for me with Wladyslaw Szpilman.

So I hope it will become a poll, soon.
