Quick thing: It CAN be given to Non-American comedians, (Lorne Michaels) the head of the Kennedy Center said "the Mark Twain Prize honors American humor, not necessarily American humorists". so that opens up suggestions more to international comics.

Maybe a link to know the previous honorees could be helpful, I assume they can't receive it a second time.

@ethan  ,

Please use the American English spelling for humor. Please change:

Who Should Receive the Next Mark Twain Prize for American Humour?

To:

Who Should Receive the Next Mark Twain Prize for American Humor?

= = =

The word comedian should not be capitalized in your question. Please change:

Which Comedian do you think should receive the Mark Twain prize in 2023?

To:

Which comedian do you think should receive the Mark Twain prize in 2023?

= = =

Please add a discussion link in your list.

Please include the link to the previous recipients in your poll suggestion

@ethan  ,

It would probably be a good idea to link to the official web site for the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.

https://www.kennedy-center.org/whats-on/marktwain/

Likewise, many poll takers may not be familiar with the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. This description from the official website, would be helpful. It also sets the criteria for who is eligible for the award:

The Mark Twain Prize for American Humor recognizes individuals who have had an impact on American society in ways similar to the distinguished 19th-century novelist and essayist Samuel Clemens, best known as Mark Twain. As a social commentator, satirist, and creator of characters, Clemens was a fearless observer of society, who startled many while delighting and informing many more with his uncompromising perspective on social injustice and personal folly.

As @Pencho15 suggests above, you may also wish to link to your poll in your poll suggestion.

This list of contemporary satirists may be helpful in fleshing out your list:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_satirists_and_satires#Contemporary_satirists_(born_1960%E2%80%93present)

From that list you may wish to add:

Sacha Baron Cohen

Ricky Gervais

Matt Groening

Mike Judge

Seth MacFarlane

Bob Odenkirk

Trey Parker

'Weird Al' Yankovic

@ethan  ,

In English, common nouns are generally not capitalized in sentences. In the following sentence, award, comedians and satirists are considered common nouns.

Please change:

The Mark Twain Prize is an Award given to Comedians and Satirists who have had a similar impact on American Society as Mark Twain, who informed people with his perspectives on social injustice and personal folly.

A common noun is a noun that describes a type of person, thing, or place or that names a concept. Common nouns are not capitalized unless they appear at the start of a sentence, unlike proper nouns, which are always capitalized.

A proper noun is the name of a particular person, place, organization, or thing. Proper nouns begin with a capital letter. Examples are ' Margaret', ' London', and 'the United Nations'.

Is this just a pedantic thing, or is there a specific reason for all the comments about people's grammar?

@rob_webster ,

For a poll to go live it should meet the editorial standards of IMDb. These standards include using standard American English grammar and correct spelling. For more information, please see:
