Live Poll: Steak á la Cannibale

Intro:

Cannibalism is a no-go in each civilized society. It is a taboo speaking positively about eating people. On the other hand the taboo is such fascinating that several films were made about it. Breaking this taboo in movies is a great force for creating shocking moments or even crassly comedic situations.

Which of these movies is your favorite cannibalistic movie?

Please investigate here!

Suggestions:

Plain human cannibals. It should contain at least one cannibalism scene, eating or slaughtering and selling. No Zombies, documentations, animated, biography, TV-series. The rating should be at least 6.5/10. The rules are that strict to not get a flood of cheap grungy zombie trash and other trashy horror movies. Please notice: Keyword-search is only helpful for remembering movies you've already watched. Sometimes the given keywords lead to movies which don't match the criteria. Please be sure to know the movie you suggest.

'Silence of the Lambs' had no Cannibalism scene in it. Just a lamb steak. And he also didn't eat the cops. It was only told that Lecter ate his victims, while in 'Fried Green Tomatoes' the bad guy was slaughtered for and eaten at the Barbeque. at the end of the movie. The people liked that special sauce. 'Alive' is biographical, so it is out of criteria. Fictional and eating one or more human(s)/bodypart(s).

P.P.S.: 'Fried Green Tomatoes': The slaughtering was just told, but they intentionally sold the guy at the end in the Whistle Stop Café to get rid of him ... and the people ate him.

I wiped out the word intentional, because it might be misleading in that context.

Thank you, Mario. I take it as a suggestion pool. My problem is that I didn't see some of these movies, so I have to rely that you would pick the ones for me that match the criteria I set.

Just added Shakespeare's Titus with ... Anthony Hopkins. At the end, Titus served the sons of her, Tamora,  the Goth queen to their mother. While she ate them he told her. Ugly moment, but also  impressing and bizarre.

There is a Mexican movie about a cannibal family: Somos lo que hay

It was well recieved enough to get a Hollywood remake: We Are What We Are

The Green Inferno is a famous cannibal horror film in the Amazon Jungle

Thank you, Pencho, quite interesting. But please look at the criteria. At least 6.5/10. Non of them matches the criteria. I've put the pole so high, because of the quality of the poll. I f I'd lower it, cats and dogs would come with low quality suggestions, which doesn't mean that your suggestions are really low, but at that rating there would be a mass of unwanted suggestions. I for myself skiped a few of my own potentional suggestions to keep the quality high. Green Inferno formerly was one of it. Sorry, but still thank you for the interest. :D

@Breumaster ,

For your consideration, some films from this search:

https://www.imdb.com/search/keyword/?keywords=cannibalism&ref_=kw_ref_rt_usr&sort=moviemeter,asc&mode=detail&page=1&title_type=movie&user_rating=7.5%2C

American Psycho (2000)

Grindhouse (2007)

The Time Machine (1960) - A major plot point is that humans in the distant future devolve into two groups the Morlock and the Eloi. The Morlock are cannibals who live underground and prey upon the Eloi who live above ground.

Thank you, Dan.

But there is one criteria, I especially exposed for this poll idea. Is there a consume, a eating of the human meat in any of these movies. I can't remember. Please tell me. Or the butchering and selling. that would fit the criteria. I know that I'm a little "in a lack" of memory by having seen so many movies, but these were very impressing and I can't remember. But if you help me, I'll put them on the list. Thank you for your interest in this idea. :D

@Breumaster ,

From what I remember, the cannibalism is implied but not actually shown.

I'm assuming you are excluding zombie films, even if the rate higher than 6.5/10.

Yes I do, because of avoiding a flood of minor quality options. But if you can enlighten me with the fitting reasons, I could try to figure the criteria out more detailed, e.g. exceptions, which do not include any trash, except cult movies, maybe. But "cult movies" is what many people see in their personal cup of meat, even if it reaches 7.8/10 by 120.000 votes. So it's a little difficult. What are you thinking about? Please tell me.

By the way. e.g. Zombies don't do cannibalism on a deliberate basis. They are like animals, eating by instinct. I wonder by myself why they don't eat animals. I guess because animals are way harder to catch than humans. ;D ... and some virulent insanity.

Or they are just a movie parable for mentally disturbed persons. I guessed that from seeing Zombi in the 1990s. The "virus-show" is just a tool for showing a kind of mentally disturbed persons as threatening monsters who seem to deserve death by headshot. Who knows? It's just a mind game.

This is Jalapenoman, back from the dead.

I notice that you missed a few big ones:

Soylent Green

Eating Raoul

The Cook, the Thief, His Wife, and Her Lover

Thank you very much. I searched and found proofs for cannibalism scenes fastly. The criteria and rating fit, so I've put your suggestions on the list and will ask for a re-push. Thank you! :D

Btw.: I had 'Soylent Green' on the radar, but wasn't sure about the criteria. With a little deeper research on Wiki and youtube, I decided to take it, yet. Very long ago I saw it, but the memory about was foggy.

@Breumaster You are very welcome.  I created an account here to thank all of you for remembering me in the "retired poll authors" poll.  When voting that same day on the daily polls, I saw your poll and remembered a few older films that were missing.

When I was active here, I was always the guy to promote and push older films and television programs, and on my limited return I did it again.

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

in that classic Penny Dreadful story, orginnally titled “The String of Pearls”, Mrs Lovett takes Todd’s victims, chops them up and bakes them into her mince meat pies.
The story of Sweeney  Todd has been done six times as either a movie short, movie, or made for TV movie.

I don't remember a cannibalism scene in that movie and didn't find hints about it by searching. (I must admit that the movie bored me somehow, so it haden't my full concentration). Can you please give me a scene where cannibalism happens? Maybe you can give me a youtube-video that clearly shows it. It's not mentioning or telling, but slaughtering human flesh for eating or eating human flesh, depicted!

you don’t have to go no further than the movie’s synopsis.
“Lovett becomes his willing accomplice, suggesting they dispose of the bodies by baking them into pies to improve her business. Todd enthusiastically agrees, and rigs his barber's chair with a pedal-operated mechanism, which deposits his victims through a trap door into Lovett's bakehouse.” So if the bodies are baked in to the pies and Mrs Lovett is selling them, that is the same type of cannibalism you had mentioned for “Fried Green Tomatoes”.  And there is a song of the two agreeing and plotting them to do it! The words “It’s man devouring man, my dear” is in the song, and they discuss who would be better to eat. Priest, lawyer, judge, and a shepard in Shepard’s pie. A Little Priest
