Live Polls: Shortest Oscar Winning Performances (Part 1 & 2)

These actors certainly made the most of their limited screen time. They won an Oscar for a performance that lasted under 25 minutes. Whose performance impressed you the most?

@Jessica ,

My favorite from list one:

John Houseman as Charles W. Kingsfield Jr. (Supporting actor)
I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Houseman at a book signing at the University of Minnesota Book Store in 1979. I have a signed copy of his book Front & Center: John Houseman: 9780671243289: Amazon.com: Books ( https://www.amazon.com/Front-Center-John-Houseman/dp/0671243284). Mr. Houseman was truly charming. It was my pleasure meeting him.
My second choice:
Louise Fletcher as Nurse Ratched (Leading actress)

My third choice:
Rita Moreno as Anita (Supporting actress)

My favorite from the second list:
Jason Robards as Ben Bradlee (Supporting actor)

I am unsure about how these times were rounded (seems like round off or down to whole minutes) or if the screentimes tabulated  by screentimecentral.com are for solo screentimes or include some calculated formula of solo and shared screentimes together. But, it might be possible to come up with another sorting other than  chronological of the two lists, if you so choose (and leave a little room to keep them current for a few years more). The current sorting seem to work best, as the others posted below don't lend themselves to as neat a fit.

Breakdown by type of category of Oscar winning roles for < 26 min Screen Time Oscar Winners

2 leading actors

3 leading actresses

21 leading actors

38 leading actresses

64 total

Breakdown by the time length of each Oscar winning performance under 26 minutes in length.

36 1 min < screentime < 19 min

28 20 min < screentime < 25 min

64 totals

FYC, I noticed that one Oscar winning screentime has yet to be verified.

If screentimecentral.com ever verifies Emil Jannings' "white whale" of Oscar winning screentimes, maybe it would be a good idea to leave a spot open for him on the first list. Plus, you have two screen times from 1976 straddling the two lists already, so it would fix that problem too. The first list would be of movies from 1927 to 1975, and the second list would be of movies from 1976 to today. A year range might be better for the title than a part one and part two, IMHO. Just a thought, as they might be minor details that don't need attention.

@urbanemovies

I moved Beatrice Straight to list 2, thanks. I prefer to keep the current titles.

@Jessica I understand. I figured I might hit on one good idea, if I give you a couple of them.

If she had won the Oscar, her acceptance speech likely would have been longer than her Oscar winning performance @ two and half minutes.

I love this idea and one of the reasons I like the lists so much, as well, is that it's so difficult to choose just one. I have it narrowed down to three on part one (but would probably go with Helen Hayes in 'Airport') and to seven on part two, lol.

It's so nice to be reminded of these performances.

@rubyfruit76

Thank you, Sara. I got the idea after watching Lupita Nyong'o's performance in 12 Years a Slave last week. :)

FYC, you should find some better photos in the media indexes now for part two. Some of these images could be upgraded with more centered, brighter and more easily viewable and color ones. I personally prefer these, but it is your call.
