@dan_dassow It seems like the list could be a selected list.

@urbanemovies #84 Alfred Newman (March 17, 1900 – February 17, 1970) won nine Academy Awards and was Oscar-nominated 45 times. Newman had a career spanning more than four decades and composed the scores for over 200 motion pictures.

@urbanemovies ,

Originally, I thought of only including people with Irish ancestry. I may still do that as a separate poll. Unfortunately, that leads to somewhat obscure people very quickly.

I prefer not to include John Wayne Gacy in this poll.

I replaced:

Joseph Cousins

with

35. Alfred Newman

Just basic math, 364/365 is going to eliminate a lot of people fast. I thought it would hard to find 35 recognizable names in this case. I am amazed with DC's 100 y.o.a polls that I usually can find at least 50 names that I can recognize (from the top 100), but this is 3.5x harder.

@dan_dassow I wasn't advocating for JWG, just pointing him out. I too would prefer a list of people with worthy accomplishments and a sustained career combined with the randomness of being born on a particular day.

@urbanemovies ,

I plan to create a Leap Day Babies poll for Leap Day 2024 (29-February-2024). Assuming an even distribution of births throughout the year, there are only 1 in 1461 born on February 29th.

Birth Month Day of 02-29 (Sorted by Popularity Ascending)

406 names

https://www.imdb.com/search/name/?birth_monthday=2-29

One of these days, I may test out the hypothesis that birthdays are evenly distributed throughout the year.

@dan_dassow I was curious. Some of the biggest names with 2/29 birthdays are #3. Dennis Farina, #8. Dinah Shore, #17. Ja Rule, #25. William A. Wellman, #27. Anthony Robbins, #32. Aileen Wuornos (explains a lot), #77. Jimmy Dorsey, #80. Dino A. De Laurentis (not that one, the grandson) and an equal number of third-tier names, you may or may not recognize, and then it gets real thin. There are lots of names without profile pictures too.

@dan_dassow I kinda wonder if somehow the Irish are cooking the books here. There seems to be a disproportionate number of Irish surnamed celebrities born on March 17th to me. I don't know if inducing labor is a thing for the Irish do, in order to be born on the date, but it seems suspect.

@urbanemovies ,

I can not claim any Irish ancestry, although my wife has a small amount of Irish ancestry. Hence, my daughters can claim to be Irish.

I've heard it said by many through the years that everyone is Irish on St. Patrick's Day.

Please change "Poll Suggestion" to "Live Poll" in the discussion thread title and change the settings so that it appears under "Praise" now, rather than "Idea."

I never see Rob Lowe coming, yeah, he's well known, but he always catches me off guard. I see him in something, and by the time it's finished, I end up really liking his character. I couldn't imagine anyone else as Chris Traeger. Nailed it.

I really like Gary Sinise, but he's been missing for a while.

Kurt Russell, yeah he's alright, I just hope he stays off the reboot train. I don't want to watch Snake Plissken: Escape form the Retirement Home.
