I am going to add at least two more characters pending approval.

@Brijesh Which two characters? IMHO, I would list more characters, as he had 230 lifetime roles. If you don't have a solo image, put what you have or the title poster as a placeholder. I will try to help you find an image or a better image for that character.

From Zulu Dawn and Les Miserables.

For some I have uploaded better images than what I have now.

I see less point in adding lesser known roles in even less popular movies or shows. I was capping at 5,000 votes. I will look for some more, if I can find the images outside.

@Brijesh I agree. I would rather see a less voted title in which he had a larger role. I would pick the ones you want to include regardless of image availability and we will see if we can solve that issue together.

@Brijesh You should see better images available now for the following characters.
I would look here: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0891092/mediaindex/?ref_=nm_mv_sm first, then in the media title's photo gallery.

@Brijesh FYI, Vaughn seemed to have played higher ranking Nazis alot in lead or in prominent supporting roles. I think you should list at least one, IMHO. Also, I think his award nominated role should be included too.

It is certainly your call, but I would fill out the options, as it is not likely he will be adding to his filmography at this point in his career. Plus, it links your poll to more title pages. His career peak seemed to be quite extended from the 1960s to 1990s, so I think the 5,000 vote threshold is a bit unfair for media titles in that period. A case in point, despite having many larger roles in his career, his most voted role is for a bit part in a recent popular TV series.

@Brijesh

IMHO, IMDb votes are an imperfect measure of popularity, plus the threshold is too high for types of certain media titles, eras or non-USA media titles and people. Just because people haven't voted for an older title on IMDb, doesn't mean the don't remember it either. To some degree, you are using a present-day, USA, theatrical movie standard to judge an actor 100 y.o.a., who worked in the UK and had a lot TV movie and TV roles in his career.

I see less point in adding lesser known roles in even less popular movies or shows. I was capping at 5,000 votes.

If Peter Vaughn during his prime 27-52 y.o.a had a role on the following TV series: Rawhide, My Three Sons, Adam-12, The Partridge Family, Land of the Lost, The Fugitive, One Day at a Time, Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In or any of the other TV series (<5000 imdb votes) listed below, the contention that the role would not be listed because the shows were unpopular is mind-boggling to me. These shows in their day were some of the most popular and most watched series on television in the USA and they don't meet your standard set for popularity. I can imagine how it would be near impossible for a UK title to meet that standard, unless it was Monty Python's Flying Circus or Doctor Who, which aired internationally.

@Brijesh I hate to say I object to the use of "many", but you are lumping him into the same category as actors who had six roles.

FYC,

Peter Vaughan was an English character actor. According to IMDb, Vaughn has appeared in 230 different movie and TV roles (not counting stage productions). To celebrate his 100th birth anniversary on April 4, 2023, we remember some of his more notable and popular characters.

@Brijesh I think you have listed 80% of these already, but it might point you in the right direction on the last 20%.

According to Wikipedia, (for what its worth) his notable roles include:

Film

Still Missing Images (Hard2Find)
  • Fatherland (1994) Peter Vaughan as SS-Oberst-Gruppenführer Arthur Nebe MIA ?????
  • The Razors Edge (1984) Peter Vaughan as Mackenzie MIA ?????
  • The French Lieutenant's Woman (1980) Peter Vaughn as Mr. Freeman MIA ?????

I have now filled in with roles in TV shows where he had recurring role and some movie roles.

I looked for credits on the title but it's better seen in people credits.

Looking good, IMHO. I noticed you added his "The Gold Robbers" role, which I think is a must on this list. I also found and uploaded images for his Roper character, his first movie lead role in Smokescreen.

If you agree it should probably replace one of these three weaker options: #28 Dorrington, #33 Sir Thomas Inskip or #34 Mr. Paxton. I think there are a dozen more strong roles for the other two spots, as well. The issue seems to be finding an image for the three unlisted film roles listed above and the five unlisted TV series roles listed below.

Please correct #22 Citizen Smith roles from

"Dad, Dad, Charlie Johnson" to just Charlie Johnson, as Charlie Johnson is Dad.

FYC, if you agree these more significant Peter Vaughn roles could replace these three less significant but more voted options: #28 Dorrington, #33 Sir Thomas Inskip or #34 Mr. Paxton, IMHO. FYI, they are pretty lowly voted though, but they are major big-name adaptations, nonetheless.

Roper Smokescreen (lead movie role)

Long John Silver Treasure Island Mini Series (major role)

Bill Sikes Oliver Twist Mini Series (major role)

Mr Jagged Great Expectations Mini Series (major role)

There are few other options added to his media index in the last 24 hours that maybe new to you too, such as Horatio Hornblower: The Wrong War (1999 TV Movie) with Peter Vaughan as Admiral Lord Hood or Countdown to War (1989) Peter Vaughn as Hermann Göring that have higher IMDb vote totals.

@Brijesh, Looks good.

If you are on the fence on any of the other listed options, the Long John Silver image is now available.

https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0891092/mediaviewer/rm562571265?ref_=nmmi_mi_all_pbl_47

There also is a color Zulu Dawn image available. https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0891092/mediaviewer/rm1909598209?ref_=nmmi_mi_all_sf_34

I just noticed how the title and question are creatively connected, nicely done.

Thanks, I made space for Long John Silver.

It's surprising to me how you are able to get the images, so quickly. 😄

@Brijesh Yes, it's amazing. I used to say the same thing about how quickly DC was able to get images a few years ago. I think the poll suggestion turned out to be a fitting tribute, IMHO.

  • Do you prefer the B&W Zulu Dawn image of Q.S.M. Bloomfield over the color one?
  • Are there any other roles you wanted to include that you can't because you lack images?
  • Since, Vaughn had so many roles, you might consider #35 as an everything else option, so voters can vote for his unlisted roles too. ie Another Peter Vaughn Role Not Listed

The b/w image looks better, so I kept that instead. I was targeting 25 initially, but manged get 35, so I am happy.

I generally don't give wildcard option. I think it's better to chose among the given options.
