@Jessica Thanks! Had no idea Kopps had that many votes. I suspected Bergman had very many votes on several of his movies but I decided to not include old movies. Should I? Or should i clarify in the description?

Yes, I would suggest adding a note in the description if you want to exclude older films.

I am bothered by the exclusion of older movies, just because you may not like them. Being older doesn't mean voters don't want to see these titles or vote for them, especially when you omit giants like Ingmar Bergman, Max von Sydow, Ingrid Bergman, Bibi AnderssonLiv Ullmann, Gunnar Björnstrand and others. Plus, the oldest Swedish movie on your list is from 1998. They have been making great, well-known and popular movies in Sweden for longer than the past twenty-five years. Let your answer pool reflect that simple fact.

Many of the above listed iconic individuals have appeared in multiple movies that have been listed repeatedly in each year's final IMDb Top 250.

Let the voters decide who they want to vote for, rather than deciding for them by excluding titles that fit the scope of your question. Also, their ommission is quite glaring when discussing most voted or most well-known Swedish movie titles.

Here is a more impartial list that fits the stated scope of most IMDb-voted Swedish movie titles with a minimum of 25,000 IMDb votes. To qualify as a Swedish movie in this search, a movie must be at least partially spoken in Swedish and be at least a Sweden multi-country co-production. It includes some surprising films that technically qualify, but are likely to be percieved as foreign, even though they were mostly filmed in Sweden. However, you could tighten the requirements even more by requiring only movies entirely spoken in Swedish or Sweden only film productions are included. It also would be a good idea to decide what qualifies as a Swedish film, as it might be not universally understood. As well as, what the minimum threshold is for inclusion, based on IMDb votes (10k +, 15k +, 20k +, or 25k +).

Most IMDb Voted Swedish Movies (>25k IMDb votes )

https://www.imdb.com/search/title/?title_type=feature,tv_special,documentary,video&num_votes=25000,&countries=se&languages=svminImum vote thrsholdrt=num_votes,desc

Note: Of the thirty-one titles on the list, seven or a quarter of total are more than 25 years old. Collectively, those seven hold the top seven IMDb user rating spots of Swedish movie titles with each being IMDb user rated @ 8.0+ for those titles with at least 25,000 IMDb votes.

IMDb's Highest Rated Swedish Movies (>25k IMDb votes )

Note: The older movie titles hold their own when ranked on the basis of their current popularity and moviegoer interest (ie IMDb page views).

@urbanemovies

That's a very informative post. Thank you. Regarding the exclusion, it has nothing to do with whether I like them or not, or whether I think the voters would or not.

The list I had in mind was always "modern" movies only. Because that's what interests me. Maybe I should have clarified that and maybe that disqualifies the suggestion. But adding the old ones would kind of make it two categories in one. I don't think a Swedish comedy from 2003 should be in the same list as 10 Bergman classics.

As for what qualifies as a Swedish movie, I really didn't put much thought or criteria into it. For me, what's Swedish is Swedish. That is, those who are made in Sweden by Swedes, includes Swedish actors and creators etc.

I know it's common with multinational cooperations and different production constellations. But if I'd explain my criterias a movie like Midsommar is not Swedish for instance. Another Round is Danish and the English version of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is not Swedish and so on.

I guess than the issues become that the title, question and Swedish film criteria need to be specific, rather than general. You can't expect poll-takers to know that you mean something specific, when asking a general question. After all, everyone may not perceive these things like you do. If you do this, your poll becomes clearer, less debatable and not open to interpertation. Even, what may be considered modern is subject to interpertation, be as specific as possible to avoid any issue or mis-interperatation.

Also, an answer pool is always going to strive to have the most well seen movies, so it is assumed that means the ones with more IMDb votes. So, other than setting a vote floor for inclusion, I would focus on being less specific on most voted or more rated and more on these other important specifics that define the scope of your question and answer pool.

FYC,

Title: Favorite Modern Swedish Movie

Question: Which of these select Swedish movies* released in the twenty-first century is your favorite?

*Answer pool limited to Swedish language only, solely Swedish produced movies released since 2000 with a minimum of 15,000 IMDb votes.

or  with an abbreviated criteria explanation note

* Swedish language, Swedish produced, 2000+ release,  >15,000 IMDb votes

It's a bit hard to explain, but I'm not posting this list in your suggested context and I don't see it as a select list. The "thing" with my list is the amount of votes (in a way that it should imply, and possibly interest people, that these are good or at least commercially successful, movies) rather than which one they actually already think is good).

There's too much of just rating nowadays I think, and I just thought that lists also could be about waking interest. If that's too far fetched so be it.

Also you're the only one questioning my list so far, but I don't know. I just posted a suggestion.

FYC means For Your Consideration. These are all observations and intended to make your poll suggestion better. If you don't want to consider them, that is up to you.

Also, I would question whether the observations are valid, rather than whether only one person is taking the time to speak them.

The word select is used to cover yourself for any ommission or exclusion, as the poll might not have every most voted Swedish title (especially as new titles come out). You can be select and still choose to have 100% of the most voted Swedish titles in your list, you selecting 100% in that case. I would recommend its use since there are titles being omitted you feel aren't Swedish, but others may consider wholeheartedly they are Swedish. I agree with how you are defining a movie to be Swedish, I just disagree with how that is communicated to poll takers.

The primary point is why choose to be vague when by adding a few words you could be crystal clear in what you are asking. You seem to be spending a lot of time explaining what you mean, rather than just taking the time to say what you mean in the first place.

Feature Film/TV Movie/Documentary/Video, Released between 2000-01-01 and 2022-12-31, Rating Count at least 7,500, Sweden, Swedish (Sorted by Popularity Ascending)*
* This is a list of fifty or so 21st century Swedish movies is intended as a starting point and can be culled down to remove less voted titles or movies that are not Swedish enough (ie "what's Swedish is Swedish").

I have not chosen to be vague.

I spend a lot of time explaining since you spend a lot of time questioning.
