I would vote for the ORIGINAL Carrie (not any of the sequels or remakes).  Horror is one of my three least liked genres (along with organized crime movies and superhero movies).  I found the original Carrie to be an intelligent and enjoyable film that was thought provoking.  I was not grossed out by this movie the way I am by most of King's work.

So you'll vote for Carrie? Nice! :D I read the book and think it wasn't the best of his. In deed 'The Long Walk' gave me the creeps. A book which carries the idea for so many movie afterwards, like 'The Hunger Games'. Suzanne Collins mentioned that she was inspired by Bachmann's (King's) novel. And also the Japanese movie 'Battle Royale' was inspired about that book of King.

I'm not sure, if I'll vote for Needful Things, The Long Walk or Gerald's Game. The Green Mile would also a candidate, even though it didn't get me so tough than the other books. And still I didn't read all of his books.

Remember that Carrie was King's first book.  Writers tend to get better with experience and maybe the writing in this one wasn't as polished as his later works.  I am more of a fan of the original movie than of the book (which I actually never read as I am not into horror).

True. He's indeed my personal favorite as a writer I appreciate his work, even tough I guess I didn't read more than 10% of his books. But all I read were entertaining for me.

Since the poll celebrates Stephen King, perhaps the question could be about his books instead of titles based on them?

Besides, we already have several polls about films and shows based on his work:

Ok, I've re-edited the intro. What do you think about. Please tell me. If I didn't collect your thought properly, please tell how you would pick the formulation. Thank you, Jessica. ;D

I've also ordered the movie- and titles by timeline they were released. Except the second option, because if it gets published as a featured poll, it should carrie the most popular stories connected to him.

I thought, maybe I should order them in the release-date of his books. What do you think?

Perhaps it would be better to make an image list, to make it even clearer that you are asking for favorite book and not movies based on his books.

The Dark Tower series should definitely be included since it is considered his greatest achievement. There are eight books, but you don't have to list each title, you can just say "The Dark Tower series (1982-2012)".

You could use one of these images:

A hidden, coded message within? Well, I do like a brainteaser! ;)

Since you posted this on the Stephen King thread, I assume it has something to do with Stephen King's works... Or am I wrong? We shall see...

Tease, tease!

No nothing directly coded to or with Stephen King. It's just in this thread here, because I don't want these postings in here over there in the Halloween poll. It's a message than remains silent, if no one discovers it. I'd be proud if no one discovered it. ;) The hint I gave will be the only single hint for it. Brainpower, please.

@Breumaster   Let me reply to you with a short political observation.  In a recent, national election, I had the choice between an over the top, egotistical blowhard and a hateful, evil, totally unqualified woman that put politics above people.  I voted for the blowhard, who (despite his always having his foot in his mouth) is actually doing a decent job in the office.  In fact, he is much better than his predecessor or the divisive Bollocks O'Bummer.  Oh, and I am not a member of his party and consider myself an independent politically.

If you are 10 foot close to a mountain you won't see the whole mountain. If you step back 1000  meters you see a little more of it. When you step back 5000 meters, you may see the whole montain. Stay in your bubble, always do the same and wait for other results.

Question: There is a 78 y.o. grandpa who was convicted 36 times, paid 2 women (added 280.000) Dollars to quieten them and started a war that costs the whole world Billions to distract from a process about his little fun parties at an abandoned island where many underage girls visited his friends and where he seems to be involvded and then tried to blacken all files that could be critical for him. On the other hand there is a 60 y.o. woman that is an atorney general in a big state of the U.S., always stood for human rights, women's rights, has put criminals into jail. Which one would you entrust to care for your daughters?

Also, since you've given me this wonderful brainteaser, now, I am going to give YOU (and everyone else who is interested can participate). It is a song. There is a hidden message within and you must find it:

The song's name: October's Night:

Ignite the lantern, the path begins beside the islet.

Ivy climbs the stone where pale light rests among azaleas.

Omen hangs over the road; who can say when?

Adorn the silent gate with silver before the final event.

Bitter winds cross the field and circle the abandoned area.

The shadow follows every footstep, beneath the watch of an exarch.

Bitter bells fade behind us, ringing more slowly.

The moon keeps watch above the ancient church.

Edge closer to the answer, then watch the letters glow.

Air, what am I when every answer meets another, then fades away?

I will give only one hint: And remember... what you uncover may be only the shadow of what lies beneath.

If anyone uncovers the message, reply that you have found it and I'll tell you how to code it so I'll understand.

Good luck. ;D

The question is which code shall I use? Coding is something to hide information. If I have it coded, I can't tell you here in which format I did, because other people who see the information could encode with the same format. So the coding would be senseless. And as we see, at least one other user uncovered the 31TOR coding. I would better sing a song back and you'll know:

I still don't know how to solve this.

Excellent work, by the way.

Rave around the world

Ringdingtagitagidingding

Braveheart would be brave on you

I'm shivering how intelligent you are

The seed is planted

An Island shouldn't be that bad

Lust should never be oppressive

Love allways wins

Intelligence might solve that

In a better world

Significant failure that is

That's what Yoda would say

Muppets would see it the same

Conan would see it the same

dingdingdindingding

Agony will fall on the bad guys
Boing Boing Boing Zack Puff

Puff Dragon, Magic Boltbait

digidingidigidingi

Beatles will sing a song about

How bad guys drown in guilt

In a better world

On that behavior can be no repent and no salvation

Across the sea

And the lands

At the malls and in the schools, wherever

Seamen will cry

Seed won't

Tear them down in their selfmade agony

Better world

Better life

Rindingtagitagidingding

Now my hint: Two shadows will expire each time we make the exarch follow these creatures. One after another, killed by the bells. The key is your massage. Only you know the key. Find out the pattern to solve it. ;D

I admit I had to change the text a few times. Now it fits to keep our vile and righteous secret. If it was the right key I used to encode, you can give me the pattern coded to keep it a secret. I say yes or no.

Wow!  Looks like you drank the Kackling Kamala Kool-Aid to believe those sweet and wonderful things about the woman.  Try reading something besides her campaign literature.  Read about the bribery and scandals and people she helped get off.

I have already stated that I do not like Trump and am not a fan of his in any way.  Kamala was so evil, however, I felt that Trump was the lesser of two evils.

In a minor defense of him, however, you need to read about those famous 36 charges against him.  It was the same charge that was filed 36 times in different ways with different wordings brought by the same person and rejected by the court system 36 times.  So, it was realistically only one charge that was thrown out.

I am going into the hospital first thing tomorrow morning for at least two weeks and probably won't be able to respond for a while.

I think we may get further if we separate facts from opinions and leave the insults out of it. I also want to correct something in my own previous message: I said 36 convictions. That was wrong. The New York case involved 34 felony counts, and I should have checked the number before writing it. It was a time ago I read about it should have re-read it.

But the correction actually makes your argument about those charges more important, because the explanation you gave is not what happened.

It was not one charge filed 34 or 36 times and rejected by the courts. A New York jury found Trump guilty on all 34 counts of falsifying business records. The court record confirms the 34 guilty verdicts. The 34 counts were based on individual business records - including invoices, ledger entries and checks - that prosecutors said were falsified to disguise reimbursements connected to the $130,000 payment to Stormy Daniels.

So it is fair to argue about the case, the prosecution, the evidence, the legal theory, or whether you think the prosecution was politically motivated. But saying that the same charge was submitted repeatedly and rejected 34 or 36 times is simply not what happened.

The same principle applies to Kamala Harris. Her record as a prosecutor is certainly open to criticism. There are documented controversies over some of her criminal-justice decisions, including her handling of the Kevin Cooper case and her policy concerning truancy. At the same time, she also prosecuted powerful institutions and obtained major settlements, including an $18 billion mortgage settlement and a $1.1 billion judgment against Corinthian Colleges. Her record is therefore much more complicated than either “hero” or “evil”.

And I would also correct something on my side regarding Epstein. Trump clearly had a documented social association with Epstein, including flights on Epstein's plane, but that alone does not establish that Trump participated in Epstein's crimes. I don't think we should claim more than the evidence shows. Fact is that Eppstein was convicted for what I mentioned. One of the victims comitted suicide. And Trump has a social association with him. There are images about.

That is actually the point I was trying to make with my mountain analogy. If we stand too close to one political camp, we tend to see only the facts that support our existing opinion. Stepping back does not mean becoming neutral about everything. It means being willing to acknowledge facts that are inconvenient to our own side as well.

You don't have to like Harris, and I don't expect you to. You can also believe Trump was the better choice in 2024. Those are legitimate political judgments of a voter. Nonetheless - if you'd ask me, I'd never trust him, when it comes to my dauthers.

I wish you good luck at the hospital.

A couple of observations:

You seem to be missing a few King movies.  Off the top of my head, I can think of Silver Bullet and Lawnmower Man.

I note that you list the movies in order of release except for The Shining.

"I note that you list the movies in order of release except for The Shining."

Yes, I stated that above under Jessica's posting.

I'm surprised that this is coming from you of all people. You're not even a Stephen King fan. And you don't like badly made movies.

The Lawnmower Man was a flop at the time, which is also reflected in its low rating of 5.5. Whereas 'The Dark Tower' was way more popular than those two. 'The Dark Tower' isn't even on this list.

I'll add your two picks to the list.

@Breumaster Silver Bullet and Lawnmower Man were some of the movies that I saw when I worked for United Artists.  In fact, I was quoted in Box Office Magazine in the early 90's for saying "What's a bottom ten list without at least one Madonna and one Stephen King movie?"

I didn't see the part about release order.

I never saw King's The Dark Tower and it didn't spring immediately to mind.

I've made the movie 'Firestarter' now a wildcard for any other title Stephen King published and a movie/TV Series/x was made of. It's at the end and also doesn't fit the timeline order, but just because it's the wildcard now. Problem solved.
