Poll Suggestion: James Bond Words

The latest James Bond movie will release in cinemas on November 25th.

Throughout their history, James Bond movies have proven to have badass names but did you noticed that their names are often composed with recurrent words? This poll has listed them, and No Time to Die is not the exception.

Which of these words do you associate the most with James Bond Titles?

Oh, here I thought you were going to list ether 1) the singular phrases the bond movies use or 2) Ian Fleming’s suggestive names he gave to his characters that usually said something them, (he even did this for his characters in his children’s book “Chitty, Chitty, Bang, Bang” (and even to the car in that one because it was the sound the car made) : Trudy Scumptious for Truly Scrumptious, and Caractacus Potts for Crackpot)
- Q for both quartermaster and you usually have to wait inline (a Que) to get anything from a quartermaster.
- Pussy Galore
- Auric in Auric Goldfinger means gold, and the whole name together with the word finger in it could mean “The golden touch” or a reference to “King Midus”.
Every Bond movie has at least more than one suggestive name in it.

Day:

- Die Another Day

- The Living Daylights

The name of body parts:

- Goldfinger

- For Your Eyes Only

- Octopussy *

- Goldeneye

* it really shouldn’t be in here since the name of the book was “Octopus”. The movie company change it to the more provocative title, “Octopussy”.

Love:

- From Russia, With Love

- The Spy who Loved Me

The name of a place:

- From Russia, With Love

- Moonraker

- Skyfall**

- Casino Royale (1954, made for TV, season 1, episode 3 of the “Climax!” tv series)

- Casino Royale (1967)(a Bond movie parodying the Bond Movies)

- Casino Royale (2006)***

** Skyfall was the name of Fleming’s house in Jamaica.

*** Make sure you type the e in or you will never find the movies.

Never:

- Tomorrow Never Dies

- Never Say Never Again

I got an idea why. One of the names of a bond film has an obscene word in hidden in the English version on it’s one word title: https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0086034/?r...

1)  I can't include "Never" because  Never Say Never Again is not an official James         Bond movie.

2) I won't include "Name of body parts" and "Name of a place", for two reasons:

     1. I wouldn't feel comfortable to include "Octopussy" in a "Name of Body Parts"               section since I'm pretty sure that if I do, this poll will never go live.

      2. This poll was really about single words and not themes or groups of words, but             maybe this could be an idea for another poll.

3) I included "Love" and "Day"

I can argue you about “Never Say Never Again” since 1) After a law suit, Ian Fleming did give his blessing to the project as long as it stayed as a remake of “Thunderball” to which it was and was closer to Fleming’s story than “Thunderball” was, 2) the producer and screenwriter on NSNA also worked on Tb with Fleming, 3) in the 90s, MGM, did buy the rights to it and included it in the Bond collection when they got the Bond films back with Eon productions. But, with a ton of respect, this poll is your property. You are the final authority, master Yoda (I’m bowing down to you right now.)

Understand that I’m trying to find ways to include more Bond films on your list:

No:
Dr. No
No Time to Die

References to people or names:
Dr. No
Goldfinger
On Her Majesty’s Secret Service
The Man With The Golden Gun
The Spy Who Loved Me
Octopus (the controversial one that triggered the spam filter)

Maybe you can say “The film based on Octopus” by Ian Fleming” and then use the movie poster for that title.

No Time to Die is delayed

I changed the description of the list from:

The latest James Bond movie will release in cinemas on April 10th.

Throughout their history, James Bond movies have proven to have badass names but did you noticed that their names are often composed with recurrent words? This poll has listed them, and No Time to Die is not the exception.

Which of these words do you associate the most with James Bond Titles?

Can someone make the change in the description too?

The delayed date is understandable in terms of marketing, but it is a bit annoying in terms of pollmaking.

Agree, I also had a Bond poll suggestion, and another to bump closer to the film, now they'll have to wait till November.

cinephile,

I updated your first post to match your update to your list.

I agree that distributors and production companies changing release dates can be rather disruptive to polls, especially "most anticipated" polls. When release dates for films are more than a month away they can be volatile.

Good! For two reasons why: 1) then I can proceed with an idea I had about the best boat chases. The Bond films have at least five or six of them of which two, from the two short lists from special interest groups that I had checked, are among the best ever put on film: “From Russia, With Love”, “Live and Let Die”, “Moonraker”, “The World is Not Enough”, “Quantum of Solice”* (and another that I can’t remember the name of that involve Venetian gondolas -- it was rather silly). I had other non Bond films too to put on the list too. But seeing that Cinephile had started a Bond film list on the same day, I had thought it would be rather bad taste to start mine that had the majority of it being Bond films.

2) isn’t February, and March the time Hollywood releases projects that might be profitable but not be remembered at Oscar time or not be able to compete with the summer blockbusters? “No Time To Die” must have tested better than what they thought. Or maybe they want more time to find tune it.

* that was number one on all lists. along with “Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade”, and “Puppet on a Chain” that also appeared on a few list too. Did you know that know the boat chase in “PoaC” inspired the boat chase in “LaLD”?

My boat chase poll list page is at https://www.imdb.com/list/ls092103546/
As you can see, from boat chases from other films, the poll also includes six boat chases from five Bond films.

'Good idea for a poll! : ) The recurrent words is why I often can't remember which one is which, lol. I think "live" will probably get my vote.

May I suggest one small edit to the intro?

I believe most of the titles are about death. All words the related to "die" "kill" "live" should be considered as one word, or the sentence "to be or not to be". Love is also another word for life as none can "live" without it
