Poll Suggestion: IMDb Poll Board's Favorite Movies Directed by Women - Part II

Intro:

The members of the Poll Board took a moment to look inward and ask ourselves:
"What’s our absolute favorite film directed by a woman?"
Now we want to know: Which one of these is the closest to your own kind of taste?

Please discuss here.

Suggestions:

Please guys, name me your favorite movie directed by a woman. I'll skip the per user rule. Now limitless, just one option per director with unlimited films named and unlimited options per user, but think on the first poll, Jessica made. No director twice that allready was in part 1. Each director just one option, but with her best movies, so you want. Title debateable. I intentionally name no user in his/her/their option to give the name of the director the whole space of the option.

And PLEASE first check if your suggestion allready is in part1: https://www.imdb.com/poll/Shjkmi-NYjY/ Thank you. :D

List: https://www.imdb.com/list/ls4111408646/

Poll: TBD

No idea how many you want from each of us, but I will list two (which are both huge favorites):

1a.  Awakenings  1990  https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0099077/?ref_=nm_flmg_job_2_accord_1_cdt_t_10

1b.  A League of Their Own  1992  https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0104694/?ref_=nm_flmg_job_2_accord_1_cdt_t_9

Both of these were directed by the late, great Penny Marshall.

I could also list "Triumph of the Will," by the first female, award winning director Leni Riefenstahl.... JUST KIDDING!  https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0025913/?ref_=fn_t_3

I know that you are German and hope that you can accept this as a joke.

I've set one per user, because I want to keep user's choices serious. It may be a little harsh, so I've set it to 3 per user I keep your 2 suggestions.

Correction: Each director just once. So I only keep one of your suggestions.

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to take 'Triumpf des Willens' on my list, as a German. The movie is banned in Germany, because it praises the Nazi culture. If police finds it by random, you get punished by law in Germany. It's handled very strict. Maybe I can, because IMDb is an American website. I would have to check that first.

@Breumaster   Triumph of the Will was just listed as a joke.   I knew that the movie was pretty much banned in Germany and it is about the most politically incorrect movie ever made (even if the director was a genius).

@Breumaster   You kept the right one with Awakenings.  I give it a slight edge.

I know it was a joke, you wrote it. I just wanted to be clearer for maybe yonger people that don't get if it's real that it's banned. I saw a few snipits of her work when she was young and supported in her work by the Nazis. It was a time in Germany one couldn't say: "I don't want to support you with my work!". That would have been the end of her career and she was young! Many young people found more work then - from worker to professor - because the Nazis deported the jews. The young Germans all wouldn't have given up the gift they had from it. That's how it worked. They did very good on one side, the other side had to pay for it.

The snipits I saw were awesome arranged. She was one of the best directors, just at the wrong time. That's why I offered to check if I may, on the other hand - indeed I wouldn't want to see her on the list, because her work of necessity provided Nazi propaganda.

She passed 2003 at the age of 101 in Pöcking, a smaller village near Starnberg, like one of the Satelites of Starnberg, which is the richest town in Germany. Starnberg is about 20 kilometers from Munich.

I'm sorry for wiping Awakenings from the list, but Jessica informed me that there also was a part1, so I cannot put Awakenings on the list, because it was on the list of part 1. I've put there A league of their own on the list, which wasn't in the first poll.

@Breumaster   I actually saw her final film (the first one that she had directed in over 40 years).  It was a documentary on her underwater photography and on sea life.  I really enjoyed it, even though the attached sound track wasn't that good and sometimes overpowered the dialogue.  Had she been an American or a Brit, I wonder what she might have accomplished (and how much more quickly women directors would have been accepted).

For my other two... it is going to be very hard not to have multiple films from the same director if you give us each three choices.  That said, I suggest:

Big (also by Penny Marshall)  1988

Look Who's Talking (also by Amy Heckerling)  1989

When I made the rule, my intention was to give each equal chances. But on the other hand, yo are right, somehow. I will make a compromise and pu the other names in the option. Now limitless, but with only one in all option per director.

Thank you, jaf. I've put 'What Women Want' and 'Step Up' on the list.

Captain Marvel is from Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck

Impossible to say who did what and how much of it. If it was only she, I would have put her on the list with favor.

@Breumaster If so, I will replace it with Winter's Bone (2010)

I've put Winter's Bone on the list instead. Btw. I've increased the limit to 5 director-picks per user. Just if you want.
